< Thaburi 38 >

A Psalm of David. A lament. Reprove me not, Lord, in your anger, and chasten me not in your wrath;
2 Nĩgũkorwo mĩguĩ yaku nĩĩtheceete, na guoko gwaku nĩ kũũhũrĩte mũno.
for your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand lies heavy upon me.
In my flesh is no soundness because of your anger, no health in my bones, because of my sin.
4 Mahĩtia makwa nĩmanditũhĩire mũno o ta mũrigo mũritũ itangĩhota gũkuua.
For that my guilt is gone over my head: it weighs like a burden too heavy for me.
My wounds stink and fester, for my foolishness I am tormented.
6 Thiiaga ndĩĩhacĩte, ngakungĩrĩra mũno, mũthenya wothe ndindaga ngĩcakaya.
Bent and bowed am I utterly, all the day going in mourning.
My loins are filled with burning, and in my flesh is no soundness.
8 Ndĩ mũmocu na ngathuthĩka biũ; ndĩracaaya nĩ ruo rwa ngoro.
I am utterly crushed and numb; I cry louder than lion roars.
9 Wee Mwathani, wendi wakwa wothe ũrĩ o mbere yaku; gũcaaya gwakwa ti kũhitharu harĩwe.
Lord, you know all that I long for, my groans are not hidden from you.
10 Ngoro yakwa nĩĩratuuma mũno, naguo hinya wakwa nĩgũthira ũrathira; o na ũtheri nĩumĩte maitho-inĩ makwa.
My heart is throbbing, my strength has failed me. The light of my eyes – even it is gone from me.
My dear ones and friends keep aloof, and my neighbours stand afar off.
12 Andũ arĩa mendaga kũnjũraga nĩ mĩtego mandegagĩra, arĩa mendaga kũnjĩka ũũru maaragia ũrĩa mangĩnyũnũha; mũthenya wothe mathugundaga o maheeni.
They who aim at my life lay their snares, they who seek my hurt speak of ruin, nursing treachery all the day long.
13 Niĩ haana ta mũndũ gĩtaigua, ũrĩa ũtaiguaga, ngahaana ta mũndũ ũtaaragia, ũrĩa ũtangĩtumũra kanua gake;
But I turn a deaf ear and hear not; like the dumb I open not my mouth.
14 nduĩkĩte ta mũndũ ũtaiguaga, ũrĩa kanua gake gatarĩ ũndũ kangĩhota gũcookia.
I am like one without hearing, with no arguments in my mouth.
15 Wee Jehova, Wee nĩwe njetagĩrĩra; Wee Mwathani Ngai wakwa, Wee nĩwe ũkũnjookeria ũhoro.
For my hope, O Lord, is in you. You will answer, O Lord my God,
16 Nĩgũkorwo ndoigire atĩrĩ, “Ndũkanareke thũ ciakwa ingenerere, o na kana ciĩtũũgĩrie igũrũ rĩakwa rĩrĩa kũgũrũ gwakwa gwatenderũka.”
when I utter the hope that those who made scorn of my tottering feet may not rejoice over me.
17 Nĩgũkorwo ngirie kũgũa, na njikaraga ndĩ na ruo hĩndĩ ciothe.
For I am ready to fall, my pain forsakes me never.
18 Nĩngumbũra waganu wakwa; nĩthĩĩnĩtio nĩ mehia makwa.
I acknowledge my guilt, I am anxious because of my sin:
19 Thũ ciakwa iria irĩ kĩyo nĩcio nyingĩ; arĩa maathũire hatarĩ gĩtũmi nĩ aingĩ.
My wanton assailants are strong, those who wrongfully hate me are many,
20 Andũ arĩa mandĩhaga wega wakwa na ũũru manjambagia rĩrĩa niĩ ngũthingata ũndũ ũrĩa mwega.
who render me evil for good, and oppose me, because I make good my goal.
21 Wee Jehova, ndũkandiganĩrie; Wee Ngai wakwa, ndũgaikare haraihu na niĩ.
Do not forsake me, O Lord; my God, be not far from me.
22 Ũka narua ũndeithie, Wee Mwathani, Mũhonokia wakwa.
Hasten to help me, O Lord my saviour.
