< Thaburi 137 >

1 Ngurumo-inĩ cia njũũĩ cia Babuloni nĩkuo twaikaraga thĩ tũkarĩra, twaririkana Zayuni.
By the waters of Babylon there we sat, and we wept at the thought of Zion.
2 Kũu mĩtĩ-inĩ ya mĩethia nĩkuo twacuuragia inanda ciitũ cia mũgeeto,
There on the poplars we hung our harps.
3 nĩgũkorwo tũrĩ kũu andũ arĩa maatũtahĩte nĩmatwĩraga tũmainĩre nyĩmbo, o acio atũnyariiri magatwĩra tũmainĩre nyĩmbo tũkenete, magatwĩra atĩrĩ, “Tũinĩrei rwĩmbo rũmwe rwa iria mwainaga mũrĩ Zayuni!”
For there our captors called for a song: our tormentors, rejoicing, saying: “Sing us one of the songs of Zion.”
4 Tũngĩhota atĩa kũina nyĩmbo cia Jehova tũrĩ bũrũri wa ũgeni?
How can we sing the Lord’s song in the foreigner’s land?
5 Ingĩkariganĩrwo nĩwe, Wee Jerusalemu-rĩ, guoko gwakwa kwa ũrĩo kũrokĩriganĩrwo nĩ ũũgĩ wakuo wa gwĩka maũndũ.
If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand wither.
6 Rũrĩmĩ rwakwa rũronyiitana na karakara ingĩkaaga gũkũririkana, ingĩkaaga gũtua Jerusalemu gĩkeno gĩakwa kĩrĩa kĩnene.
May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, if I am unmindful of you, or don’t set Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Wee Jehova, ririkana ũrĩa andũ a Edomu meekire, mũthenya ũrĩa itũũra rĩa Jerusalemu rĩanyiitirwo. Maanĩrĩire, makiuga atĩrĩ, “Rĩmomorei, rĩmomorei o nginya mũthingi-inĩ warĩo!”
Remember the Edomites, Lord, the day of Jerusalem’s fall, when they said, “Lay her bare, lay her bare, right down to her very foundation.”
8 Wee mwarĩ wa Babuloni, o wee ũtuĩrĩirwo kũniinwo, gũkena nĩ mũndũ ũrĩa ũgũgwĩka o ta ũguo ũtwĩkĩte:
Babylon, despoiler, happy are those who pay you back for all you have done to us.
9 gũkena nĩ mũndũ ũrĩa ũhuragia tũkenge twaku, agatũgũthithia ndwaro-inĩ cia mahiga.
Happy are they who seize and dash your children against the rocks.
