< Thimo 7 >
1 Mũrũ wakwa, tũũra ũrũmĩtie ciugo ciakwa, na wĩigĩre maathani makwa thĩinĩ waku.
My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Rũmia maathani makwa, na nĩũgatũũra muoyo; gitagĩra morutani makwa o ta kĩũma kĩa riitho rĩaku.
Keep my commandments, and live; and my teaching, as the apple of thine eye.
3 Mohagĩrĩre ciara-inĩ ciaku; ũmaandĩke kĩhengere-inĩ kĩa ngoro yaku.
Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the tablet of thy heart.
4 Ĩra ũũgĩ atĩrĩ, “Wee nĩwe mwarĩ wa maitũ,” naguo ũtaũku ũwĩtage mũndũ wa nyũmba yanyu;
Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister, and call intelligence [thy] kinswoman:
5 nĩcirĩkweheragia harĩ mũndũ-wa-nja ũcio mũtharia, o na kuuma kũrĩ mũtumia ũcio ũtarĩ mwĩhokeku, hamwe na ciugo ciake cia kũheenanĩrĩria.
that they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words.
6 Ndĩ ndirica-inĩ ya nyũmba yakwa-rĩ, nĩndacũthĩrĩirie na nja kamwanya-inĩ,
For at the window of my house, I looked forth through my lattice,
and I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the sons, a young man void of understanding,
passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
in the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the blackness of night and the darkness.
10 Na rĩrĩ, hagĩũka mũndũ-wa-nja kũmũtũnga, wehumbĩte nguo ta mũmaraya, arĩ na wara ngoro-inĩ.
And behold, there met him a woman in the attire of a harlot, and subtle of heart.
11 (Nĩ mũnegeni na mũngʼathia, na magũrũ make matikiragĩrĩria mũciĩ;
She is clamorous and unmanageable; her feet abide not in her house:
12 rĩmwe arĩ njĩra-inĩ, na rĩrĩa rĩngĩ arĩ ihaaro-inĩ, ehithagĩre andũ koine-inĩ ciothe cia njĩra.)
now without, now in the broadways, — and she lieth in wait at every corner.
13 Nake akĩnyiita mwanake ũcio, akĩmũmumunya, na akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ ategũconoka,
And she caught him and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
I have peace-offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows:
15 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio ndoimagara, ndooka gũgũtũnga; ngũgũcarĩtie mũno, na rĩu nĩndakuona!
therefore came I forth to meet thee, to seek earnestly thy face, and I have found thee.
I have decked my bed with tapestry coverlets of variegated linen from Egypt;
17 Ũrĩrĩ ũcio wakwa nĩndĩũitĩrĩirie indo nungi wega ta manemane, na thubiri, o na mũndarathini.
I have perfumed my couch with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Ũka twĩhũũnie wendo nginya rũciinĩ; reke twĩkenie na wendo!
Come, let us revel in love until the morning, let us delight ourselves with loves.
19 Mũthuuri wakwa ndarĩ mũciĩ; nĩathiĩte rũgendo rũraihu.
For the husband is not at home, he is gone a long journey;
20 Nĩathiire na mũhuko wake ũiyũrĩte mbeeca, na akainũka mũciĩ o rĩrĩa mweri ũkaiganana.”
he hath taken the money-bag with him, he will come home on the day of the full moon.
With her much enticement she beguiled him; with the smoothness of her lips she constrained him.
22 O rĩmwe akĩmũrũmĩrĩra ta ndegwa ĩgĩthiĩ gũthĩnjwo, kana ta thwariga ĩgĩtoonya kĩana-inĩ kĩa mũtego,
He went after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, and as stocks [serve] for the correction of the fool;
23 nginya akaaya gũtheecwo ini nĩ mĩguĩ, akahaana ta nyoni ĩguthũkĩte mũtego-inĩ, ĩtekũmenya o na hanini atĩ ũndũ ũcio no ũmĩrute muoyo.
till an arrow strike through his liver: as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for its life.
24 Atĩrĩrĩ, ariũ akwa, ta thikĩrĩriai; tegai matũ mũigue ũrĩa ngũmwĩra.
And now, ye sons, hearken unto me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Mũtikanareke ngoro cianyu ĩrũmĩrĩre mĩthiĩre yake, kana mũingĩre njĩra-inĩ ciake.
Let not thy heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths:
26 Nĩ andũ aingĩ arĩkĩtie kũrũnda; arĩa oragĩte nĩ kĩrĩndĩ kĩingĩ mũno.
for she hath cast down many wounded, and all slain by her were strong.
27 Nyũmba yake nĩ njĩra njariĩ ya gũthiĩ mbĩrĩra, nayo yerekagĩria andũ nyũmba-inĩ cia gĩkuũ. (Sheol )
Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death. (Sheol )
