< Thimo 24 >
1 Tiga kũiguĩra andũ arĩa aaganu ũiru, na ndũkanerirĩrie thiritũ yao,
Be not thou envious of wicked men, neither crave to be with them;
2 nĩgũkorwo ngoro ciao ithugundaga o haaro, na mĩromo yao yaragia ũhoro wa kũrehere andũ thĩĩna.
For, violence, their heart muttereth, and, mischief, their lips do speak.
3 Nyũmba yakagwo na ũũgĩ, naguo ũtaũku nĩguo ũtũmaga ĩĩhaande;
In wisdom, is a house builded, and, in understanding, is it established;
4 ũmenyo nĩguo ũiyũragia tũnyũmba twayo, ũgatũiyũria na indo cia bata, na ũtonga mwega.
And, in knowledge, chambers are filled, with all acquisitions, costly and fair.
5 Mũndũ mũũgĩ arĩ ũhoti mũnene, na mũndũ ũrĩ ũmenyo nĩakĩragĩrĩria kũgĩa na hinya;
A wise man, is mighty, and, a man of knowledge, becometh alert in vigour.
6 ũgĩthiĩ mbaara-inĩ nĩũbatarĩtio nĩgũtaarwo, na nĩgeetha ũhootane nĩũbatarĩtio nĩ aheani kĩrĩra aingĩ.
Surely, with concerted measures, shalt thou make for thyself war, and, success, lieth in the greatness of the counsellor.
7 Ũũgĩ ũrĩ igũrũ mũno, ndũngĩkinyĩrĩka nĩ mũndũ mũkĩĩgu; rĩrĩa kwagomanwo kĩhingo-inĩ, ndangĩona wa kuuga.
Unattainable to a foolish man, are the dictates of wisdom, in the gate, he openeth not his mouth.
8 Mũndũ ũrĩa ũthugundaga ũũru-rĩ, andũ mamwĩtaga mungumania.
He that deviseth to do mischief, him, shall men call, a master of plots.
9 Mathugunda ma ũrimũ nĩ mehia, na mũnyũrũrania nĩ kĩndũ kĩrĩ magigi harĩ andũ.
The purpose of folly, is sin, and, an abomination to mankind, is a buffoon.
10 Ũngĩtuĩka wa kũũrwo nĩ hinya hĩndĩ ya thĩĩna, hinya waku kaĩ nĩ mũnini-ĩ!
Thou hast been slothful in the day of straitness, Strait, is thy strength.
11 Honokia arĩa maratwarĩrĩrio gĩkuũ-inĩ; girĩrĩria arĩa maratũgũũga merekeire gĩthĩnjĩro.
Deliver thou such as are being led forth to death, and, them who are tottering to slaughter, oh that thou wouldst hold back!
12 Ũngiuga atĩrĩ, “Ũhoro ũcio tũtiraũmenyete,” githĩ ũrĩa ũthimaga ngoro tiwe ũmenyaga? Ũrĩa ũrangagĩra muoyo waku-rĩ, githĩ ndooĩ kana nĩguo? Githĩ ndakaarĩha o mũndũ kũringana na ũrĩa ekĩte?
Though thou say, Lo! we knew not this, Shall not, he that proveth hearts, himself, discern? And, he that formeth thy soul, himself, know? and bring back to a son of earth according to his deed?
13 Mũrũ wakwa, rĩa ũũkĩ, nĩgũkorwo nĩ mwega; ũũkĩ uumĩte magua-inĩ ũrĩ mũrĩo ũkĩũcama.
My son, eat thou honey, because it is good, —and droppings from the comb [because they are] sweet to thy palate:
14 Ningĩ menya atĩ ũũgĩ ũrĩ mũrĩo harĩ ngoro yaku; ũngĩgĩa naguo, nĩũkagĩa na kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro, na kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro gĩaku gĩtigaathira.
Thus, take knowledge of wisdom, for thine own soul; If thou find it, then there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.
15 Ndũkanoohie mũndũ mũthingu njĩra-inĩ ũtharĩkĩre nyũmba yake ta mũitũ, ndũkanahithũkĩre gĩikaro gĩake;
Do not lie in wait, thou lawless man, against the home of the righteous, —neither destroy thou his place of rest;
16 nĩgũkorwo mũndũ mũthingu o na angĩgũa maita mũgwanja, agũũaga o agĩũkagĩra, no andũ arĩa aaganu marũndagwo nĩ mũtino.
For, seven times, may the righteous fall and yet arise, but, lawless men, shall stumble into calamity.
17 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa thũ yaku yagũa-rĩ, ndũkanamĩkenerere; hĩndĩ ĩrĩa yahĩngwo-rĩ, ndũkareke ngoro yaku ĩkene,
When thine enemy falleth, do not thou rejoice, and, when he stumbleth, let not thy heart exult:
18 nĩguo Jehova ndakone ũndũ ũcio arakare, akĩhũndũre marakara make kuuma kũrĩ thũ ĩyo.
Lest Yahweh see it, and it be wicked in his eyes, and he turn away from him his anger.
19 Ndũkanathĩĩnĩke ngoro nĩ ũndũ wa andũ arĩa ooru, kana wĩrirĩrie kũhaanana na arĩa aaganu,
Burn not with vexation against evil doers, be not envious of lawless men;
20 nĩgũkorwo mũndũ ũrĩa mũũru ndarĩ na mwĩhoko wa thuutha-inĩ, na tawa wa ũrĩa mwaganu nĩũkahorio.
For there shall be no future for the wicked, The lamp of the lawless, shall go out.
21 Mũrũ wakwa, wĩtigĩre Jehova na wĩtigĩre mũthamaki, na ndũkagĩe na ngwatanĩro na andũ arĩa aremi,
Revere thou Yahweh, my son, and the king, and, with the fickle, have thou no fellowship;
22 nĩgũkorwo acio eerĩ no mamũrehithĩrie mwanangĩko wa narua, na nũũ ũngĩmenya nĩ mĩtino ĩrĩkũ mangĩrehe?
For, suddenly, shall arise their calamity; and, the misfortune of their years, who knoweth?
23 O na ici no thimo cia andũ arĩa oogĩ: Kwenda mwena ũmwe gũkĩra ũrĩa ũngĩ ciira-inĩ ti ũndũ mwega:
These things also, concern the wise, To take note of faces in judgment, is not good.
24 Ũrĩa wothe wĩraga mũndũ ũrĩa ũrĩ na mahĩtia atĩrĩ, “Wee ndũrĩ na mahĩtia,” kĩrĩndĩ nĩgĩkamũruma, na athũũrwo nĩ ndũrĩrĩ.
He that saith to the lawless man, Righteous, thou art, peoples shall denounce him, populations shall curse him;
25 No arĩa matuagĩra andũ arĩa aaganu ciira, nĩmakona wega, na magĩe na kĩrathimo kĩega.
But, to reprovers, one should be pleasant, and, upon them, should come an excellent blessing:
26 Icookio rĩa wĩhokeku nĩ ta kĩmumunyano kĩa mĩromo.
Lips, should one kiss with one who answereth in right words.
27 Rĩĩkia wĩra wa gũtua mwako na nja, na ũhaarĩrie mĩgũnda yaku; thuutha ũcio cooka wĩakĩre nyũmba.
Prepare, in the open, thy work, and make ready, in the field, for thyself, Afterwards, shalt thou build thy house.
28 Ndũkanarute ũira ũigĩrĩre mũndũ wa itũũra rĩaku kĩgeenyo, kana ũheenanie na mĩromo yaku.
Do not become a needless witness against thy neighbour, so mightest thou open too wide thy lips:
29 Ndũkanoige atĩrĩ, “Ngũmwĩka o ta ũrĩa anjĩkĩte; ngwĩrĩhĩria harĩ mũndũ ũcio kũringana na ũrĩa eekire.”
Do not say—According to what he hath done to me, so, will I do to him, I will repay every one according to his work.
30 Ndaahĩtũkĩire mũgũnda-inĩ wa kĩgũũta, ngĩhĩtũkĩra mũgũnda-inĩ wa mĩthabibũ wa mũndũ ũtooĩ gũkũũrana maũndũ;
By the field of the sluggard, I passed, and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense;
31 na rĩrĩ, mĩigua yamerete kũndũ guothe, na mũgũnda ũkaiyũra riya, naruo rũthingo rwa mahiga rũkamomoka.
And lo! there had come up all over it—thorns, there had covered the face thereof—thistles, and, the stone fence thereof, had been thrown down.
32 Nĩndacũũranirie na ngoro yakwa maũndũ macio ndonire, na ngĩĩruta ũndũ kuumana na ũrĩa ndonire:
So I observed it, for myself, I applied my heart, I looked—I accepted correction:
33 Mũtugo wa gũkoma hanini, gũcooka toro hanini, gũkũnja moko hanini ũhurũke;
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest:
34 naguo ũthĩĩni ũgaagũkorerera ta mũitũ, na wagi ũgũkorerere ta mũndũ wĩohete indo cia mbaara.
So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
