1 Ngoro ya mũthamaki ĩrĩ moko-inĩ ma Jehova; amĩroragia o kũrĩa ekwenda, o ta ũrĩa maaĩ moinithagĩrio mĩtaro-inĩ.
The king’s heart is in Adonai’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.
2 Mũndũ oonaga mĩthiĩre yake yothe ĩrĩ mĩega, no Jehova athimaga ngoro.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Adonai weighs the hearts.
3 Gwĩka ũrĩa kwagĩrĩire na ũrĩa ũrĩ kĩhooto nĩ gwĩtĩkagĩrwo nĩ Jehova gũkĩra kũruta igongona.
To do righteousness and mishpat ·justice· is more acceptable to Adonai than sacrifice.
4 Maitho ma mwĩtũũgĩrio na ngoro ya mwĩtĩĩo, o icio tawa wa arĩa aaganu-rĩ, nĩ mehia!
A high look, and a proud heart, the lamp candle of the wicked, is habitual sin ·missing the mark·.
5 Mĩbango ya arĩa marĩ kĩyo nĩĩrehaga uumithio, o ta ũrĩa ti-itherũ ihenya inene rĩrehaga ũthĩĩni.
The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.
6 Kũgĩa na ũtonga na njĩra ya rũrĩmĩ rwa maheeni nĩ kĩbii gĩa gũthira, na nĩ mũtego wa gĩkuũ.
Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.
7 Haaro ya andũ arĩa aaganu ĩkaamakururia, ĩmeherie, nĩgũkorwo nĩmaregaga gwĩka ũrĩa kwagĩrĩire.
The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is mishpat ·just·.
8 Njĩra ya mũndũ mũhĩtia nĩ njogomu, no mĩthiĩre ya mũndũ ũrĩa ũtarĩ mahĩtia nĩ mĩrũngarũ.
The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9 Nĩ kaba gũtũũra nyũmba-igũrũ, koine-inĩ, gũkĩra gũtũũra nyũmba thĩinĩ na mũtumia wa haaro.
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.
10 Mũndũ ũrĩa mwaganu eriragĩria gwĩka o ũũru; ndaiguuagĩra mũndũ wa itũũra rĩake tha.
The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no pity in his eyes.
11 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mũnyũrũrania aaherithio, arĩa maagĩte ũũgĩ nĩmohĩgaga; hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mũndũ mũũgĩ aataarwo nĩagĩĩaga na ũmenyo.
When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.
12 Ũrĩa Mũthingu, o we Ngai, nĩonaga nyũmba ya ũrĩa mwaganu, na akarehithĩria ũcio mwaganu mwanangĩko.
The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.
13 Mũndũ angĩhinga matũ ndakaigue kĩrĩro kĩa arĩa athĩĩni-rĩ, o nake agaakaya na ndone wa kũmwĩtĩka.
Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.
14 Kĩheo kĩheanĩtwo na hitho nĩkĩhooreragia marakara, na ihaki ihithe nguo-inĩ rĩhooreragia mangʼũrĩ manene.
A gift in secret pacifies anger; and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.
15 Ituĩro rĩa kĩhooto rĩatuuo, rĩrehaga gĩkeno kũrĩ andũ arĩa athingu, no rĩrehaga kĩmako kũrĩ arĩa mekaga ũũru.
It is joy to the upright to do mishpat ·justice·; but it is a destruction to the workers of vain striving of iniquity.
16 Mũndũ ũrĩa ũtiganaga na njĩra ya ũũgĩ, akaahurũkĩra kĩũngano-inĩ kĩa arĩa akuũ.
The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.
17 Mũndũ ũrĩa mwendi ikeno nĩagathĩĩna; ũrĩa wothe mwendi ndibei na maguta-rĩ, gũtirĩ hĩndĩ agaatonga.
He who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· pleasure shall be a poor man. He who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· wine and oil shall not be rich.
18 Mũndũ ũrĩa mwaganu atuĩkaga irĩhi rĩa gũkũũra ũrĩa mũthingu, na ũrĩa ũtarĩ mwĩhokeku agatuĩka irĩhi rĩa gũkũũra ũrĩa mũrũngĩrĩru.
The wicked is a ransom for the upright; the treacherous for the upright.
19 Nĩ kaba gũtũũra werũ-inĩ, gũkĩra gũtũũra na mũtumia wa haaro na kũrakara narua.
It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.
20 Thĩinĩ wa nyũmba ya mũndũ mũũgĩ nĩ kũrĩ mĩthemba yothe ya irio njega o na maguta, no mũndũ mũkĩĩgu arĩĩaga kĩrĩa gĩothe arĩ nakĩo.
There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up.
21 Mũndũ ũrĩa ũthingataga ũthingu na wendani nĩagĩĩaga na muoyo, na ũgaacĩru, na gĩtĩĩo.
He who follows after righteousness and chesed ·loving-kindness· finds life, righteousness, and kavod ·weighty glory·.
22 Mũndũ mũũgĩ atharĩkagĩra itũũra inene rĩa andũ arĩa njamba, na akamomora kĩĩhitho kĩa hinya kĩrĩa mehokete.
A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence.
23 Mũndũ ũrĩa ũmenyagĩrĩra kanua gake na rũrĩmĩ rwake nĩeyeheragia mũtino-inĩ.
Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
24 Mũndũ mwĩtĩĩi na mwĩgereri, etagwo “Mũnyũrũria”; ekaga maũndũ make na mwĩtĩĩo mũnene.
The proud and haughty man, “scoffer” is his name; he works in the arrogance of pride.
25 Merirĩria ma mũndũ kĩgũũta nĩmo makaamũũraga, tondũ moko make matiendaga kũruta wĩra.
The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.
26 Mũthenya wothe eriragĩria o makĩria, no arĩa athingu maheanaga mategũtara.
There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the upright give and don’t withhold.
27 Igongona rĩa mũndũ mwaganu nĩ kĩndũ kĩrĩ magigi: ĩ rĩtikĩrĩ magigi makĩria hĩndĩ ĩrĩa rĩrehetwo na ũhinga ngoro-inĩ!
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!
28 Mũira wa maheeni nĩgũthira agaathira, nake ũrĩa ũmũthikagĩrĩria akaanangwo nginya tene.
A false witness will perish, and a man who sh'ma ·hears obeys· speaks to eternity.
29 Mũndũ mwaganu erũagĩrĩra na ũrũme, no mũndũ mũrũngĩrĩru nĩeciiragia ũhoro wa mĩthiĩre yake.
A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.
30 Gũtirĩ ũũgĩ, kana ũmenyi, kana kĩrĩra o na kĩrĩkũ kĩngĩhota gũũkĩrĩra Jehova.
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Adonai.
31 Mbarathi nĩĩharagĩrio nĩ ũndũ wa mũthenya wa mbaara, no ũhootani uumaga kũrĩ Jehova.
The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Adonai.
