< Mathayo 4 >
1 Hĩndĩ ĩyo Jesũ nĩatongoririo nĩ Roho agĩtwarwo werũ-inĩ akagerio nĩ mũcukani.
Then was Jesus led up of the spirit (pneuma) into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 Na aniina mĩthenya mĩrongo ĩna, ũtukũ na mũthenya, ehingĩte kũrĩa irio-rĩ, akĩigua ahũtiĩ.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.
3 Nake mũgerania akĩmũkora, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Angĩkorwo wee nĩwe Mũrũ wa Ngai-rĩ, ĩra mahiga maya matuĩke mĩgate.”
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 Nake Jesũ akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: ‘To mũgate wiki ũngĩtũũria mũndũ muoyo, no nĩ kiugo gĩothe kĩrĩa kiumaga kanua ka Ngai.’”
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (rhema) that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
5 Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũcukani akĩmũtwara itũũra rĩrĩa itheru, akĩmũrũgamia gathũrũmũndũ ka hekarũ,
Then the devil takes him up into the holy city, and sets him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Angĩkorwo wee nĩwe Mũrũ wa Ngai-rĩ, wĩgũithie thĩ. Nĩgũkorwo kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: “‘Nĩagaatha araika ake nĩ ũndũ waku, nao nĩmagakwanĩrĩria na moko mao, nĩguo ndũkanahĩngwo kũgũrũ nĩ ihiga.’”
And says unto him, If you be the Son of God, cast yourself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning you: and in their hands they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone.
7 Nake Jesũ akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Ningĩ nĩ kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: ‘Ndũkanagerie Mwathani Ngai waku.’”
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.
8 Ningĩ mũcukani akĩmũtwara kĩrĩma-inĩ kĩraaya mũno, akĩmuonia mothamaki mothe ma thĩ na riiri wamo.
Again, the devil takes him up into an exceeding high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 Akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Maũndũ maya mothe nĩngũkũhe, ũngĩĩtĩkĩra kũnyinamĩrĩra ũũhooe.”
And says unto him, All these things will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me.
10 Nake Jesũ akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Thiĩ Shaitani ndiga! Nĩgũkorwo nĩ kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: ‘Hooyaga Mwathani Ngai waku, na ũmũtungatagĩre o we wiki.’”
Then says Jesus unto him, Get you behind, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.
11 Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũcukani akĩmũtiga, nao araika magĩũka makĩmũtungatĩra.
Then the devil left him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
12 Na rĩrĩa Jesũ aiguire atĩ Johana nĩaikĩtio njeera-rĩ, agĩthiĩ Galili.
Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 Ũndũ ũcio wekĩkire nĩguo ũhoro ũrĩa waarĩtio na kanua ka mũnabii Isaia ũhinge, rĩrĩa oigire atĩrĩ:
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,
The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 andũ arĩa matũũraga nduma-inĩ nĩmonete ũtheri mũnene; nao arĩa matũũraga bũrũri ũrĩ kĩĩruru gĩa gĩkuũ-rĩ, nĩmarĩirwo nĩ ũtheri.”
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17 Kuuma hĩndĩ ĩyo Jesũ akĩambĩrĩria kũhunjia ũhoro akiugaga atĩrĩ, “Mwĩrirei, nĩgũkorwo ũthamaki wa igũrũ nĩũkuhĩrĩirie.”
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18 Rĩrĩa Jesũ aaceeraga hũgũrũrũ-inĩ cia Iria rĩa Galili, nĩonire andũ eerĩ a nyina ũmwe, nao nĩ Simoni ũrĩa wetagwo Petero, na mũrũ wa nyina Anderea. Maikagia neti iria-inĩ, nĩgũkorwo maarĩ ategi a thamaki.
And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 Nake Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Ũkai, mũnũmĩrĩre, na nĩngũmũtua ategi a andũ.”
And he says unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 Nao o rĩmwe magĩtiganĩria neti ciao, makĩmũrũmĩrĩra.
And they immediately left their nets, and followed him.
And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22 na o rĩmwe magĩtiganĩria gatarũ na magĩtiga ithe wao, makĩmũrũmĩrĩra.
And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
