< Mariko 14 >
After two days was the passover and the feast of unleavened bread; and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and kill him.
2 Makiuga atĩrĩ, “No tũtingĩmũnyiita hĩndĩ ya Gĩathĩ, tondũ andũ mahota kũruta haaro.”
But they said: Not during the feast, lest there be a tumult of the people.
And while he was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he reclined at table, there came a woman that had an alabaster box of ointment of pure nard, very costly; and she broke the box, and poured it on his head.
4 Andũ amwe arĩa maarĩ kuo makĩigua ũũru, makĩũrania atĩrĩ, “Maguta maya maitangwo ũguo nĩkĩ?
And some of them were displeased within themselves, and said: For what purpose was this waste of the ointment?
5 Maguta macio nĩmangĩendio mbeeca ikĩrĩte mũcara wa mũndũ wa mwaka mũgima nacio mbeeca icio iheo athĩĩni.” Magĩkũũma mũndũ-wa-nja ũcio marĩ na ũũru.
For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 Nowe Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Tiganai nake, mũramũtanga nĩkĩ? Nĩanjĩka ũndũ mwega mũno.
But Jesus said: Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has performed a good work on me.
7 Athĩĩni marĩkoragwo na inyuĩ hĩndĩ ciothe na no mũmateithie hĩndĩ ĩrĩa yothe mũngĩenda. No niĩ mũtirĩkoragwo na niĩ hĩndĩ ciothe.
For you have the poor with you always; and whenever you choose, you can do them good; but me you have not always.
8 Anjĩka o ũrĩa angĩahota. Aitĩrĩria mwĩrĩ wakwa maguta o mbere nĩ ũndũ wa kũhaarĩria gũthikwo gwakwa.
She has done what she could; she has come beforehand to anoint my body for its burial.
9 Ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ na ma, kũrĩa guothe Ũhoro-ũyũ-Mwega ũkaahunjagio thĩinĩ wa thĩ, ũguo eka nĩũkeeragwo andũ nĩgeetha aririkanagwo.”
Verily I say to you, wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also which she has done shall be told, for a memorial of her.
10 Hĩndĩ ĩyo Judasi Mũisikariota, ũmwe wa arĩa ikũmi na eerĩ, agĩthiĩ kũrĩ athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene agakunyanĩre Jesũ kũrĩ o.
And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, that he might deliver him up to them.
11 Nao magĩkena mũno maigua ũguo na makĩmwĩra nĩmekũmũhe mbeeca. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Judasi agĩcaria mweke wa kũmũneana kũrĩ o.
And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently deliver him up.
12 Mũthenya wa mbere wa Gĩathĩ kĩa Mĩgate ĩtarĩ Mĩĩkĩre Ndawa ya Kũimbia, o ũrĩa wathĩnjagwo gatũrũme ka Bathaka-rĩ, arutwo a Jesũ makĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Ũkwenda tũthiĩ kũ tũkahaarĩrie nĩguo ũkarĩĩre irio cia Bathaka kuo?”
And on the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said to him: Where dost thou wish that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
13 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio agĩtũma arutwo ake eerĩ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Thiĩi mũtoonye itũũra, na nĩ mũgũcemania na mũndũ ũkuuĩte ndigithũ ya maaĩ. Mũrũmĩrĩrei.
And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them: Go into the city, and there will meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water;
14 Kũrĩa egũtoonya mwĩre mwene nyũmba ĩyo atĩrĩ, ‘Mũrutani arooria atĩrĩ, nyũmba yakwa ya ageni ĩrĩ ha, harĩa ingĩrĩĩra irio cia Bathaka na arutwo akwa?’
follow him, and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house: The Teacher says, Where is the room in which I may eat the passover with my disciples?
And he will show you a large upper room, furnished and made ready; there make ready for us.
16 Arutwo acio makiumagara, magĩtoonya itũũra, magĩkora maũndũ mahaana o ta ũrĩa Jesũ aamerĩte. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio makĩhaarĩria irio cia Bathaka.
And his disciples went out, and came into the city, and found as he had said to them; and they prepared the passover.
17 Na gwakinya hwaĩ-inĩ, Jesũ agĩkinya kuo marĩ na arutwo arĩa ikũmi na eerĩ.
And in the evening, he came with the twelve.
And while they were reclining at table, and were eating, Jesus said to them: Verily I say to you, One of you, he that eats with me, will deliver me up.
19 Makĩnyiitwo nĩ kĩeha mũno, na o ũmwe akamũũria atĩrĩ, “Ti-itherũ hihi nĩ niĩ?”
And they began to be sad, and to say to him, one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 Jesũ akĩmacookeria akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Nĩ ũmwe wanyu inyuĩ ikũmi na eerĩ, ũrĩa ũgũtobokanĩria mũgate mbakũri-inĩ hamwe na niĩ.
He answered and said to them: It is one of the twelve, he that dips with me into the dish.
21 Mũrũ wa Mũndũ egũthiĩ o ta ũrĩa ũhoro wake wandĩkĩtwo. No mũndũ ũrĩa ũgaakunyanĩra Mũrũ wa Mũndũ kaĩ arĩ na haaro-ĩ! Nĩ kaba mũndũ ũcio atangĩaciarirwo.”
The Son of man goes, as it is written of him; but alas for that man by whom the Son of man is delivered up! It would have been good for that man if he had never been born.
22 Ningĩ o makĩrĩĩaga-rĩ, Jesũ akĩoya mũgate, agĩcookia ngaatho, agĩcooka akĩwenyũranga, akĩhe arutwo ake, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Oyai; ũyũ nĩguo mwĩrĩ wakwa.”
And while they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said: Take, eat; this is my body.
23 Agĩcooka akĩoya gĩkombe, agĩcookia ngaatho akĩmanengera, nao othe magĩkĩnyuĩra.
And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them; and they all drank of it.
24 Akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Ĩno nĩyo thakame yakwa ya kĩrĩkanĩro, ĩrĩa ĩitĩtwo nĩ ũndũ wa andũ aingĩ.
And he said to them: This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many.
Verily I say to you, I shall drink no more of the fruit of the vine, till that day when I shall drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 Na maarĩkia kũina rwĩmbo, makiumagara magĩthiĩ kĩrĩma-inĩ kĩa Mĩtamaiyũ.
And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
27 Nake Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Inyuĩ inyuothe nĩmũrĩndirika, nĩgũkorwo nĩ kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: “‘Nĩngaringa mũrĩithi, nacio ngʼondu ihurunjũke.’
And Jesus said to them: All of you will find in me an occasion for offense this night; for it is written: I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
28 No ndaariũka, nĩngamũtongoria gũthiĩ Galili.”
But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 Petero akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “O na othe mangĩgũtirika, niĩ ndingĩgũtirika.”
Peter said to him: Though all should find occasion for offense, yet I will not.
And Jesus said to him: Verily I say to you, this day, during this very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.
31 No Petero akĩaria ahinyĩrĩirie, akiuga atĩrĩ, “O na angĩkorwo ndĩrĩkuanĩra nawe, niĩ ndingĩgũkaana!” O na acio angĩ othe makiuga o ũguo.
But he said with the more vehemence: Though it should be necessary for me to die with thee, I would not deny thee. And so said they all.
32 Nao magĩkinya handũ heetagwo Gethisemane, nake Jesũ akĩĩra arutwo ake atĩrĩ, “Ikarai haha thiĩ ngahooe.”
And they came to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples: Sit here, while I pray.
33 Akĩoya Petero na Jakubu na Johana agĩthiĩ nao, na o hĩndĩ ĩyo akĩnyiitwo nĩ kĩeha kĩnene na agĩthĩĩnĩka mũno.
And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be in dismay and anguish of soul.
34 Akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Ngoro yakwa nĩĩraigua kĩeha mũno o ta ingĩkua, ikarai haha na mwĩhũge.”
And he said to them: My soul is encompassed with sorrow, even to death; remain here, and watch.
35 Na aathiathia hanini, akĩĩgũithia thĩ, akĩhooya atĩ korwo kwahoteka, ihinda rĩu rĩmweherere.
And he went forward a little, and fell upon the ground, and prayed, that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him;
36 Akiuga atĩrĩ, “Abba, Baba, maũndũ mothe nĩmahotekaga nĩwe. Njehereria gĩkombe gĩkĩ. No ti ũrĩa ngwenda niĩ, no nĩ ũrĩa wee ũkwenda.”
and he said: Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; let this cup pass from me: but not what I will, but what thou wiliest.
37 Ningĩ agĩcooka harĩ arutwo ake akĩmakora makomete. Akĩũria Petero atĩrĩ, “Simoni, kaĩ ũkomete? Ndũngĩhota gũikara ithaa rĩmwe wĩiguĩte?
And he came and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter: Simon, do you sleep? Had you not strength to watch one hour?
38 Mwĩhũgagei na mũhooyage nĩgeetha mũtikagwe magerio-inĩ. Ngoro nĩyenda, no mwĩrĩ ndũrĩ na hinya.”
Watch, and pray, all of you, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
39 O rĩngĩ agĩthiĩ akĩhooya o ũguo.
And again he went away, and prayed, saying the same thing.
40 Na acooka rĩngĩ harĩo, agĩkora makomete tondũ nĩmahĩtĩtwo nĩ toro. Nao makĩrigwo nĩ ũrĩa mangĩmwĩra.
And he returned, and found them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what to answer him.
41 Ningĩ agĩũka ihinda rĩa gatatũ akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “O na rĩu mũrĩ o toro, o mũhurũkĩte? Kinyiai hau! Ithaa nĩrĩakinya. Atĩrĩrĩ, Mũrũ wa Mũndũ nĩakunyanĩirwo akaneanwo moko-inĩ ma andũ ehia.
And he came the third time, and said to them: Sleep the remaining time, and take your rest. It is enough; the hour has come; behold, the Son of man is delivered into the hands of sinners.
42 Ũkĩrai, tũthiĩ! Ũrĩa ũkũngunyanĩra nĩarooka.”
Arise, let us go; behold, he that delivers me up draws near.
And immediately, while he was yet speaking, came Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 Judasi ũcio wamũkunyanĩire nĩamaheete kĩmenyithia akameera atĩrĩ, “Ũrĩa ndĩmumunya nĩwe; mũmũnyiite na mũmũtware arangĩirwo.”
And he that delivered him up had given them a sign, saying: The one that I shall kiss, is he; take him, and lead him away securely.
45 Judasi o rĩmwe agĩthiĩ harĩ Jesũ, akĩmwĩta atĩrĩ, “Rabii!” na akĩmũmumunya.
And when he came, he immediately went up to him and said: Rabbi, Rabbi, and kissed him.
46 Nao andũ acio makĩguthũkĩra Jesũ makĩmũnyiita.
And they laid their hands on him and took him.
And one of those who were standing by, drew a sword, and struck the servant of the chief priest, and cut off his ear.
48 Nake Jesũ akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Kaĩ ndĩ mũtongoria wa akararia a watho atĩ nĩkĩo muoka kũũnyiita mũrĩ na hiũ cia njora na njũgũma?
And Jesus answering, said to them: Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs, to take me?
49 Ndĩratũũraga na inyuĩ hekarũ-inĩ ngĩrutanaga mũthenya o mũthenya na mũtingĩĩnyiita. No rĩrĩ, Maandĩko no nginya mahiinge.”
I was daily with you in the temple, and taught, and you did not take me; but this is so, that the scriptures may be fulfilled.
50 Hĩndĩ ĩyo arutwo ake othe makĩmũtiganĩria, makĩũra.
And they all forsook him and fled.
And there followed him a certain young man, who had a linen garment around his naked body. And the young men laid hold of him;
52 agĩtiga taama wake nao, akĩũra e njaga.
and he left the linen garment, and fled from them naked.
53 Nao andũ acio magĩtwara Jesũ kũrĩ mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai ũrĩa mũnene, nao athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene othe, na athuuri na arutani a watho makĩgomana hamwe.
And they led Jesus away to the chief priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes.
54 Petero akĩmũrũmĩrĩra arĩ haraaya o nginya agĩkinya nja ya mũciĩ wa mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai ũcio mũnene. Agĩikarania na thigari kũu agĩota mwaki.
And Peter followed him, at a distance, even into the palace of the chief priest, and sat with the attendants, and warmed himself at the fire.
And the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin sought for testimony against Jesus, in order to put him to death, and found none.
56 Na andũ aingĩ nĩmarutire ũira wa maheeni, no ũira wao ũkĩaga kũiguana.
For many testified falsely against him, and their testimony did not agree.
57 Gũgĩcooka gũkĩrũgama andũ amwe, nao makĩruta ũira wa maheeni makiuga atĩrĩ,
And some rose up, and testified falsely against him, saying:
58 “Nĩtwaiguire akiuga atĩrĩ, ‘Nĩngatharia hekarũ ĩno yakĩtwo nĩ andũ, na njake ĩngĩ ĩtakĩtwo nĩ mũndũ na ihinda rĩa mĩthenya ĩtatũ.’”
We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.
59 No o na moiga ũguo, ũira wao ũkĩaga kũiguana.
And not even in this did their testimony agree.
60 Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai ũrĩa mũnene akĩrũgama gatagatĩ kao, akĩũria Jesũ atĩrĩ, “Kaĩ wee ũtarĩ na ũndũ ũngĩcookia? Nĩ ũhoro ũrĩkũ ũyũ ũrathitangwo naguo?”
And the chief priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying: Do you make no answer? What do these testify against you?
61 No Jesũ agĩkira ki, na ndacookie ũndũ. O rĩngĩ mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai ũcio mũnene akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Wee nĩwe Kristũ, Mũrũ wa Ũrĩa Mũrathime?”
But he was silent, and made no answer. Again, the chief priest asked him, and said to him: Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
Jesus replied: I am. And you shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the Almighty, and coming with the clouds of heaven.
63 Mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai ũcio mũnene agĩtembũranga nguo ciake. Akĩũria atĩrĩ, “Tũgũkĩbatario nĩ aira angĩ a kĩ?
And the chief priest rent his clothes, and said: What further need have we of witnesses?
64 Nĩmweiguĩra akĩruma Ngai. Mũgwĩciiria atĩa?” Nao othe makĩmũtuĩra atĩ aagĩrĩirwo nĩ kũũragwo.
You have heard his impious speech. What think you? They all condemned him to be a subject of death.
65 Hĩndĩ ĩyo amwe makĩambĩrĩria kũmũtuĩra mata, na makĩmũhumbĩra ũthiũ, makĩmũringa na ngundi makĩmwĩraga atĩrĩ, “Ta kĩrathe ũhoro.” Nacio thigari ikĩmuoya, ikĩmũhũũra.
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to strike him with their fists, and to say to him: Give a response. And the attendants struck him with their open hands.
66 Na hĩndĩ ĩyo Petero aikarĩte o hau nja-rĩ, ũmwe wa ndungata cia airĩtu cia mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai ũrĩa mũnene akĩgerera ho.
And while Peter was in the court below, one of the maidservants of the chief priest came;
and when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him, and said: You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.
68 Nowe Petero agĩkaana ũhoro ũcio, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ndiũĩ ũhoro ũcio, o na ndiramenya nĩ atĩa ũroiga,” na akiumagara agĩthiĩ itoonyero-inĩ.
But he denied, saying: I neither know, nor understand what you say. And he went out into the entrance, and the cock crew.
69 Na rĩrĩa ndungata ĩyo ya mũirĩtu yamuonire ho, o rĩngĩ ĩkĩĩra arĩa maarũngiĩ ho atĩrĩ, “Mũndũ ũyũ nĩ ũmwe wao.”
And the maid-servant saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by: This man is one of them.
70 No Petero agĩkaana ũhoro ũcio rĩngĩ. Thuutha wa kahinda kanini, arĩa maarũgamĩte hakuhĩ makĩĩra Petero atĩrĩ, “Ti-itherũ ũrĩ ũmwe wao, nĩ ũndũ wĩ Mũgalili.”
He again denied. And again, after a little while, those who stood by said to Peter: Surely, you are one of them; for you are a Galilean, and your speech is like theirs.
71 Nake akĩambĩrĩria kwĩhĩta akiugaga atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ndiũĩ mũndũ ũyũ mũraaria ũhoro wake.”
But he began to curse and to swear, saying: I know not this man of whom you speak.
72 O hĩndĩ ĩyo ngũkũ ĩgĩkũga hĩndĩ ya keerĩ. Nake Petero akĩririkana ũhoro ũrĩa Jesũ aamwĩrĩte atĩrĩ, “Ngũkũ ĩtanakũga keerĩ nĩũrĩngaana maita matatũ.” Nake akĩambĩrĩria kũrĩra.
And immediately the cock crew the second time. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken to him: Before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times. And when he thought upon it, he wept.
