< Luka 5 >

1 Na rĩrĩ, mũthenya ũmwe Jesũ arũngiĩ hũgũrũrũ-inĩ cia iria rĩa Genesareti, nakĩo kĩrĩndĩ kĩa andũ aingĩ nĩkĩahatĩkanaga kĩmũkuhĩrĩrie nĩguo gĩthikĩrĩrie ũhoro wa Ngai,
On one occasion the crowd was pressing on Him and listening to God's Message, while He was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.
2 nake akĩona tũtarũ twĩrĩ hũgũrũrũ-inĩ cia iria rĩu, tũtigĩtwo ho nĩ ategi a thamaki, arĩa maathambagia neti ciao cia gũtega.
He, however, saw two fishing-boats drawn up on the beach (for the men had gone away from them and were washing the nets),
3 Agĩtoonya gatarũ kamwe, nako kaarĩ ga Simoni, akĩmũthaitha agatoonyatoonyie maaĩ-inĩ, kehere hũgũrũrũ-inĩ. Agĩcooka agĩikara thĩ, akĩambĩrĩria kũruta andũ ũhoro arĩ gatarũ-inĩ kau.
and going on board one of them, which was Simon's He asked him to push out a little from land. Then He sat down and taught the crowd of people from the boat.
4 Na aarĩkia kwaria, akĩĩra Simoni atĩrĩ, “Twara gatarũ haarĩa hariku, mũikũrũkie neti maaĩ-inĩ, mũtege thamaki.”
When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Push out into deep water, and let down your nets for a haul."
5 Nake Simoni akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Mwathi witũ, tũrutĩte wĩra mũritũ ũtukũ wothe, na tũtinanyiita kĩndũ o na kĩ. No tondũ nĩwoiga ũguo-rĩ, nĩngũikũrũkia neti.”
"Rabbi," replied Peter, "all night long we have worked hard and caught nothing; but at your command I will let down the nets."
6 Maarĩkia gwĩka ũguo, makĩnyiita thamaki nyingĩ mũno, nginya neti ciao ikĩambĩrĩria gũtuĩka.
This they did, and enclosed a vast number of fish; and their nets began to break.
7 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio makĩheneria arĩa maarutithanagia wĩra nao, arĩa maarĩ gatarũ kau kangĩ moke mamateithie, nao magĩũka makĩiyũria tũtarũ twerĩ ki, o nginya tũkĩambĩrĩria gũtoonyerera maaĩ-inĩ.
So they signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came, and they filled both the boats so that they almost sank.
8 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Simoni Petero onire ũguo, akĩĩgũithia maru-inĩ ma Jesũ, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Njeherera Mwathani; niĩ ndĩ mũndũ mwĩhia!”
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at the knees of Jesus, and exclaimed, "Master, leave my boat, for I am a sinful man."
9 Nĩgũkorwo we na arĩa othe maarĩ nao nĩmagegire mũno nĩ ũndũ wa thamaki iria maanyiitĩte,
(For he was astonished and terrified--he and all his companions--at the haul of fish which they had taken;
10 o na Jakubu na Johana, ariũ a Zebedi, arĩa maarutithanagia wĩra na Simoni nĩmagegire. Nake Jesũ akĩĩra Simoni atĩrĩ, “Tiga gwĩtigĩra; kuuma rĩu ũrĩtegaga andũ.”
and so were Simon's partners James and John, the sons of Zabdi.) But Jesus replied to Simon, "Fear not: from this time you shall be a catcher of men."
11 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio makiumĩria tũtarũ twao hũgũrũrũ-inĩ cia iria, magĩtiga indo ciao ciothe, makĩmũrũmĩrĩra.
Then, after bringing their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.
12 Na rĩrĩ, hĩndĩ ĩmwe rĩrĩa Jesũ aarĩ itũũra-inĩ rĩmwe-rĩ, nĩguokire mũndũ waiyũrĩtwo nĩ mangũ mwĩrĩ wothe. Na rĩrĩa onire Jesũ, akĩĩgũithia, agĩturumithia ũthiũ wake thĩ, akĩmũthaitha, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Mwathani, ũngĩenda-rĩ, no ũũtherie.”
On another occasion, when He was in one of the towns, there was a man there covered with leprosy, who, seeing Jesus, threw himself at His feet and implored Him, saying, "Sir, if only you are willing, you are able to make me clean."
13 Jesũ agĩtambũrũkia guoko gwake, akĩhutia mũndũ ũcio, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ĩĩ, nĩngwenda. Therio!” Na o hĩndĩ ĩyo akĩhonio mangũ.
Reaching out His hand and touching him, Jesus said, "I am willing; be cleansed!" And instantly the leprosy left him.
14 Jesũ agĩcooka akĩmũkaania, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ndũkeere mũndũ o na ũ, no thiĩ, ũkeyonanie kũrĩ mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai, na ũrute magongona marĩa Musa aathanire nĩ ũndũ wa gũtherio gwaku, arĩ ũira kũrĩ o.”
He ordered him to tell no one. "But go," He said, "show yourself to the Priest, and make the offering for your purification which Moses appointed, as evidence for them."
But all the more the report about Him spread abroad, and great multitudes crowded to hear Him and to be cured of their diseases;
16 No Jesũ nĩeheragĩra andũ, agathiĩ kũndũ gũtarĩ andũ kũhoera Ngai kuo.
but Jesus Himself constantly withdrew into the Desert and there prayed.
One day He was teaching, and there were Pharisees and teachers of the Law sitting there who had come from every village in Galilee and Judaea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present for Him to cure people.
And a party of men came carrying a palsied man on a bed, and they endeavoured to bring him in and lay him before Jesus.
19 Na rĩrĩa maagire njĩra ya gwĩka ũguo nĩ ũndũ wa ũingĩ wa andũ, makĩhaica nyũmba-igũrũ magĩtharia maturubarĩ, makĩmũikũrũkĩria mwanya-inĩ ũcio o arĩ kĩbarĩ-inĩ, nginya gatagatĩ-inĩ ka andũ acio makĩmũiga o hau Jesũ aarĩ.
But when they could find no way of doing so because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down through the tiling--bed and all--into the midst, in front of Jesus.
20 Rĩrĩa Jesũ onire wĩtĩkio wao, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Mũrata, nĩwarekerwo mehia maku.”
He saw their faith and said to him, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."
21 Nao Afarisai na arutani a watho makĩambĩrĩria gwĩciiria ngoro-inĩ ciao, makiuga atĩrĩ, “Kaĩ mũndũ ũyũ arĩ ũ, ũkũruma Ngai? Nũũ ũngĩhota kũrekanĩra mehia, tiga Ngai we wiki?”
Then the Scribes and Pharisees began to cavil, asking, "Who is this, uttering blasphemies? Who but God alone can forgive sins?"
22 Nowe Jesũ nĩamenyaga ũrĩa meeciiragia na akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Mũreciiria maũndũ macio ngoro-inĩ cianyu nĩkĩ?
Well aware of their reasonings, Jesus answered their questions by asking in turn, "What is this that you are debating in your hearts?
23 Nĩ ũndũ ũrĩkũ mũhũthũ; nĩ kwĩra mũndũ, ‘Nĩwarekerwo mehia maku,’ kana nĩ kũmwĩra, ‘Ũkĩra wĩtware’?
Which is easier? --to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'?
But to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" --Turning to the paralytic He said, "I bid you, Rise, take up your bed, and go home."
25 O hau hau akĩrũgama mbere yao, akĩoya kĩbarĩ kĩrĩa akomeire, na akĩinũka mũciĩ akĩgoocaga Ngai.
Instantly he stood up in their presence, took up the mattress on which he had been lying, and went away to his home, giving glory to God.
26 Nao andũ othe nĩmagegire na magĩkumia Ngai. Makĩiyũrwo nĩ guoya, makiuga atĩrĩ, “Ũmũthĩ nĩtuonete maũndũ tũtarĩ tuona.”
Amazement seized them all. "Glory to God!" was the abiding feeling. Yet fear flashed through their minds and they said, "We have seen strange things to-day."
27 Thuutha wa ũguo, Jesũ akiumagara na akĩona mũndũ warĩ mwĩtia wa mbeeca cia igooti wetagwo Lawi aikarĩte harĩa heetagĩrio mbeeca cia igooti. Jesũ akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Nũmĩrĩra.”
After this He went out and noticed a tax-gatherer, Levi by name, sitting at the Toll office; and He said to him, "Follow me."
28 Nake Lawi agĩũkĩra, agĩtiga indo ciake ciothe, akĩmũrũmĩrĩra.
He rose, left everything, and followed Him.
29 Lawi agĩcooka akĩrugithĩria Jesũ iruga inene gwake mũciĩ, na gĩkundi kĩnene kĩa etia mbeeca cia igooti o na andũ angĩ nĩmarĩĩanagĩra nao.
Levi also gave a great entertainment at his house in honour of Jesus, and there was a large party of tax-gatherers and others at table with them.
30 No Afarisai na arutani a watho arĩa maarĩ a gĩkundi kĩao magĩtetia arutwo ake makĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Mũrĩĩanagĩra na mũkanyuuanĩra na etia mbeeca cia igooti na andũ ehia nĩkĩ?”
This led the Pharisees and Scribes of their party to expostulate with His disciples and ask, "Why are you eating and drinking with these tax-gatherers and notorious sinners?"
31 Nake Jesũ akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Andũ arĩa agima mĩĩrĩ tio mabataragio nĩ ndagĩtarĩ, no nĩ arĩa arũaru.
But Jesus replied to them, "It is not men in good health who require a physician, but the sick.
32 Niĩ ndiokire gwĩta andũ arĩa athingu, no nĩ arĩa ehia, nĩguo merire.”
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance, but sinners."
33 Nao makĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Arutwo a Johana nĩ meehingaga kũrĩa irio kaingĩ kaingĩ makahooya, o nao arutwo a Afarisai nĩmekaga o ũguo, no aku marĩĩaga na makanyua hĩndĩ ciothe.”
Again they said to Him, "John's disciples fast often and pray, as do also those of the pharisees; but yours eat and drink."
34 Nake Jesũ akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “No mwĩre ageni a mũhikania mehinge kũrĩa rĩrĩa e hamwe nao?
"Can you compel the bridal party to fast," replied Jesus, "so long as they have the bridegroom among them?
35 No rĩrĩ, ihinda nĩrĩgakinya rĩrĩa mũhikania akeeherio kuuma kũrĩ o; matukũ-inĩ macio-rĩ, nĩ makeehinga kũrĩa irio.”
But a time for this will come, when the Bridegroom has been taken away from them: then, at that time, they will fast."
36 Ningĩ Jesũ akĩmahe ũhoro na ngerekano ĩno, akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Gũtirĩ mũndũ ũngĩtinia kĩraka kuuma harĩ nguo njerũ, agĩĩkĩre nguo ngũrũ. Angĩĩka ũguo, angĩkorwo atarũrĩte nguo njerũ, nakĩo kĩraka kĩu kĩa nguo ĩyo njerũ kĩage kwagĩrĩra nguo ĩyo ngũrũ.
He also spoke in figurative language to them. "No one," He said, "tears a piece from a new garment to mend an old one. Otherwise he would not only spoil the new, but the patch from the new would not match the old.
37 Ningĩ gũtirĩ mũndũ wĩkagĩra ndibei ya mũhihano mondo-inĩ ngũrũ. Angĩka ũguo, ndibei ĩyo ya mũhihano no ĩtarũre mondo icio, ndibei ĩyo ĩitĩke, nacio mondo icio itarũkange.
Nor does any one pour new wine into old wine-skins. Otherwise the new wine would burst the skins, the wine itself would be spilt, and the skins be destroyed.
38 Aca, ti ta ũguo, ndibei ya mũhihano no nginya ĩĩkĩrwo mondo-inĩ njerũ.
But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.
39 O na gũtirĩ mũndũ thuutha wa kũnyua ndibei ngũrũ ũcookaga kwenda ndibei ĩyo ya mũhihano, nĩ ũndũ oigaga atĩrĩ, ‘Ĩrĩa ngũrũ nĩyo njega.’”
Nor does any one after drinking old wine wish for new; for he says, 'The old is better.'"
