1 Thuutha wa Joshua gũkua, andũ a Isiraeli makĩũria Jehova atĩrĩ, “Nĩ a mekwambata mathiĩ mbere magatũhũũranĩre kũrĩ andũ a Kaanani?”
And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?
2 Nake Jehova agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Andũ a Juda nĩo megũthiĩ, tondũ nĩneanĩte bũrũri ũcio moko-inĩ mao.”
And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 Hĩndĩ ĩyo andũ a Juda makĩĩra andũ a Simeoni, ariũ a ithe wao, atĩrĩ, “Ũkai mwambatanie na ithuĩ tũtoonye bũrũri ũrĩa twagaĩirwo, tũkahũũrane na andũ a Kaanani, na ithuĩ nĩtũgaacooka tũthiĩ na inyuĩ tũkahũũranĩre igai rĩanyu.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio andũ a Simeoni magĩthiĩ hamwe nao.
And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4 Rĩrĩa andũ a Juda maamatharĩkĩire-rĩ, Jehova akĩneana andũ a Kaanani na Aperizi moko-inĩ mao, nao andũ a Juda makĩũraga arũme 10,000 kũu Bezeki.
And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they smote of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their food] under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 Ningĩ andũ a Juda magĩtharĩkĩra itũũra rĩa Jerusalemu, o narĩo makĩrĩtunyana, makĩũraga andũ a itũũra rĩu na hiũ cia njora, magĩcooka makĩrĩcina na mwaki.
And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 Thuutha wa ũguo, andũ a Juda magĩikũrũka makahũũrane na andũ a Kaanani arĩa maatũũraga bũrũri ũrĩa ũrĩ irĩma wa Negevu na magũrũ-inĩ ma irĩma cia mwena wa ithũĩro.
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites that dwelt in the hill-country, and in the South, and in the lowland.
10 Ningĩ magĩthiĩ kũhũũrana na andũ a Kaanani arĩa maatũũraga kũu Hebironi (kũrĩa tene gwetagwo Kiriathu-Ariba) maathiĩ makĩhoota Sheshai, na Ahimani, na Talimai.
And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron (now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba); and they smote Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 Kuuma kũu magĩthiĩ kũrũa na andũ arĩa maatũũraga Debiri (kũrĩa tene gwetagwo Kiriathu-Sefari.)
And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.)
12 Nake Kalebu akiuga atĩrĩ, “Mũndũ ũrĩa ũgũtharĩkĩra na atunyane Kiriathu-Sefari-rĩ, ũcio nĩwe ngũhe mwarĩ wakwa Akisa, amũhikie.”
And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13 Nake Othinieli, mũrũ wa Kenazu, mũrũ wa ithe na Kalebu ũrĩa mũnini, nĩwe watunyanire itũũra rĩu. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Kalebu akĩmũhe mwarĩ Akisa atuĩke mũtumia wake.
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14 Mũthenya ũmwe Akisa nĩathiire kũrĩ Othinieli, nake akĩringĩrĩria Akisa ahooe mũgũnda kũrĩ ithe Kalebu. Aarĩkia kuuma igũrũ rĩa ndigiri yake, Kalebu akĩũria mwarĩ atĩrĩ, “Ũkwenda ngwĩkĩre atĩa?”
And it came to pass, when she came [unto him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
15 Nake akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Ndagũthaitha ũndathime. Tondũ nĩũũheete bũrũri wa Negevu, he ithima cia maaĩ o nacio.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Kalebu akĩmũhe ithima cia mwena wa rũgongo na cia mwena wa kĩanda.
And she said unto him, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ brother-in-law, went up out of the city of palm-trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.
17 Nao andũ a Juda magĩthiĩ hamwe na andũ a Simeoni ariũ a ithe wao, na magĩtharĩkĩra andũ a Kaanani arĩa maatũũraga Zefathu, nao makĩananga itũũra rĩu inene biũ. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio rĩgĩtwo Horoma.
And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18 O na ningĩ andũ a Juda magĩtunyana matũũra manene ma Gaza, na Ashikeloni, na Ekironi, o itũũra inene na bũrũri warĩo.
Also Judah took Gaza with the border thereof, and Ashkelon with the border thereof, and Ekron with the border thereof.
19 Jehova aarĩ hamwe na andũ a Juda. Magĩkĩĩnyiitĩra bũrũri ũrĩa ũrĩ irĩma, no matiahotire kũingata andũ arĩa maatũũraga kũrĩa kwaraganu, nĩgũkorwo maarĩ na ngaari cia ita cia igera.
And Jehovah was with Judah; and drove out [the inhabitants of] the hill-country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 Na o ta ũrĩa Musa eeranĩire, Hebironi kwaheirwo Kalebu, nake akĩingata ariũ atatũ a Anaki kuuma kuo.
And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drove out thence the three sons of Anak.
21 No rĩrĩ, andũ a Benjamini nĩmaremirwo nĩ kũingata andũ a Jebusi arĩa maatũũraga Jerusalemu. Andũ a Jebusi matũũranagia na andũ a Benjamini kũu Jerusalemu nginya ũmũthĩ.
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
22 Na rĩrĩ, andũ a nyũmba ya Jusufu magĩtharĩkĩra Betheli, nake Jehova aarĩ hamwe nao.
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el; and Jehovah was with them.
23 Rĩrĩa maatũmire andũ magathigaane Betheli (kũrĩa mbere ĩyo gwetagwo Luzu),
And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Beth-el. (Now the name of the city beforetime was Luz.)
24 athigaani acio makĩona mũndũ akiuma kũu itũũra-inĩ rĩu inene, makĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Tuonie ũrĩa tũngĩtoonya itũũra rĩĩrĩ inene, na nĩtũgaagwĩka maũndũ mega.”
And the watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with thee.
25 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio akĩmoonia, nao makĩũraga andũ a itũũra rĩu inene na rũhiũ rwa njora, no makĩhonokia mũndũ ũcio na nyũmba yake yothe.
And he showed them the entrance into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
26 Mũndũ ũcio agĩcooka agĩthiĩ bũrũri wa Ahiti, kũrĩa aakire itũũra inene, na akĩrĩĩta Luzu, na nĩrĩo rĩĩtwa rĩarĩo o na ũmũthĩ.
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz, which is the name thereof unto this day.
27 No andũ a Manase matiaingatire andũ a Bethi-Shani, kana andũ a Taanaka, kana andũ a Dori kana andũ a Ibileamu, kana andũ a Megido na matũũra marĩa maamarigiicĩirie, tondũ andũ a Kaanani nĩmatuĩte itua rĩa gũtũũra bũrũri ũcio.
And Manasseh did not drive out [the inhabitants of] Beth-shean and its towns, nor [of] Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 Na rĩrĩ, rĩrĩa andũ a Isiraeli maagĩire na hinya, makĩrutithia andũ a Kaanani wĩra wa hinya, no matiigana kũmaingata biũ.
And it came to pass, when Israel was waxed strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 O nao andũ a Efiraimu matiigana kũingata andũ a Kaanani arĩa maatũũraga kũu Gezeri, no andũ acio a Kaanani maathiire o na mbere gũtũũrania hamwe nao.
And Ephraim drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30 O nao andũ a Zebuluni matiigana kũingata andũ a Kaanani arĩa maatũũraga kũu Kitironi kana Nahaloli, arĩa maatigaire gatagatĩ kao; no nĩmamarutithirie wĩra na hinya.
Zebulun drove not out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became subject to taskwork.
31 O na andũ a Asheri matiigana kũingata andũ othe arĩa maatũũraga Ako, kana arĩa matũũraga Sidoni, kana arĩa maatũũraga Ahalabu, kana arĩa maatũũraga Akizibu, kana arĩa maatũũraga Heliba, kana arĩa maatũũraga Afeku, kana arĩa maatũũraga Rehobu,
Asher drove not out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
32 na tondũ wa ũguo andũ a Asheri magĩtũũrania na andũ a Kaanani arĩa maatũũraga bũrũri ũcio.
but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
33 O nao andũ a Nafitali matiigana kũingata andũ arĩa maatũũraga kũu Bethi-Shemeshu, o na kana arĩa maatũũraga Bethi-Anathu; no andũ a Nafitali o nao maatũũranirie na andũ a Kaanani arĩa maatũũraga bũrũri ũcio, nao andũ arĩa maatũũraga Bethi-Shemeshu na Bethi-Anathu magĩtuĩka andũ ao a kũrutithagio wĩra wa hinya.
Naphtali drove not out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to taskwork.
34 Andũ a Aamori makĩhingĩrĩria andũ a Dani kũu bũrũri ũrĩa ũrĩ irĩma, makĩmagirĩrĩria gũikũrũka kũrĩa kwaraganu.
And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill-country; for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley;
35 Ningĩ Aamori nĩmatuĩte itua rĩa gũtũũra Kĩrĩma-inĩ kĩa Herezu, na kĩa Aijaloni, na kĩa Shaalubimu, no rĩrĩa andũ a nyũmba ya Jusufu maagĩire na hinya, o nao Aamori magĩtuĩka a kũrutithio wĩra wa hinya.
but the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to taskwork.
36 Mũhaka wa Aamori woimĩte Ituĩkanĩrio rĩa Akirabimu, ũgakinya Sela na ũkahĩtũka.
And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
