< Joshua 4 >
1 Rĩrĩa andũ othe a rũrĩrĩ rũu maarĩkirie kũringa Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani, Jehova akĩĩra Joshua atĩrĩ,
When all the people crossed over the Jordan, Yahweh said to Joshua,
2 “Thuura andũ ikũmi na eerĩ kuuma gatagatĩ-inĩ ka andũ aya o mũhĩrĩga mũndũ ũmwe,
“Choose twelve men for yourselves from among the people, one man from each tribe.
3 na ũmeere moe mahiga ikũmi na meerĩ kuuma gatagatĩ ka Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani handũ harĩa athĩnjĩri-Ngai maarũgamĩte, mamakuue maringe namo mũrĩmo mũkamaige harĩa mũrĩraara ũtukũ ũyũ.”
Give them this command: 'Take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests are standing on the dry ground, and bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you will spend the night tonight.'”
4 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Joshua agĩĩta andũ acio ikũmi na eerĩ arĩa aathuurĩte kuuma kũrĩ andũ a Isiraeli, o mũhĩrĩga mũndũ ũmwe,
Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had chosen from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe.
Joshua said to them, “Go over before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel.
6 rũtuĩke rũũri gatagatĩ-inĩ kanyu. Mahinda marĩa magooka, rĩrĩa ciana cianyu ikaamũũria atĩrĩ, ‘Gĩtũmi kĩa mahiga maya nĩ kĩĩ?’
This will be a sign in your midst for you when your children ask in days to come, 'What do these stones mean to you?'
7 Mũgaaciĩra atĩ gũtherera kwa maaĩ ma Jorodani nĩ gwatinithirio mbere ya ithandũkũ rĩa kĩrĩkanĩro kĩa Jehova. Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa ithandũkũ rĩu rĩaringaga Jorodani-rĩ, maaĩ ma Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani nĩmatinithirio. Mahiga maya megũtuĩka kĩririkania gĩa kũririkanagia andũ a Isiraeli ũhoro ũcio nginya tene.”
Then you will say to them, 'The waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones will be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.'”
8 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio andũ a Isiraeli magĩĩka o ta ũrĩa maathĩtwo nĩ Joshua. Makĩoya mahiga ikũmi na meerĩ kuuma gatagatĩ ka Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani, kũringana na mũigana wa mĩhĩrĩga ya andũ a Isiraeli, o ta ũrĩa Jehova eerĩte Joshua; nao magĩkuua mahiga macio nginya kambĩ yao, makĩmaiga kuo.
The people of Israel did just as Joshua commanded, and they picked up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh said to Joshua. They set the stones up according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel. They carried the stones with them, over to the place where they camped and they set them down there.
9 Nake Joshua akĩhaanda mahiga macio ikũmi na meerĩ, akĩmaiganĩrĩra hau gatagatĩ ka Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani harĩa athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa maakuuĩte ithandũkũ rĩa kĩrĩkanĩro maarũgamĩte. Namo marĩ ho nginya ũmũthĩ.
Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan River, in the place where the feet of the priests that carried the ark of the covenant stood. The memorial is there to this day.
10 Nĩgũkorwo athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa maakuuĩte ithandũkũ rĩa kĩrĩkanĩro maikarire marũngiĩ hau gatagatĩ ka Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani nginya hĩndĩ ĩrĩa andũ meekire maũndũ marĩa mothe Jehova aathĩte Joshua, na magĩĩkwo o ta ũrĩa Musa aathĩte Joshua mekwo. Nao andũ magĩkĩhiũha, makĩringa mũrĩmo,
The priests that carried the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan until everything that Yahweh commanded Joshua to tell the people was completed, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua. The people hurried and they crossed over.
11 na andũ othe maarĩkia kũringa o ũguo, ithandũkũ rĩa Jehova o narĩo na athĩnjĩri-Ngai makĩringa makĩonagwo nĩ andũ othe.
When all the people had finished crossing over, the ark of Yahweh and the priests crossed over before the people.
12 Andũ a mũhĩrĩga wa Rubeni, na wa Gadi, na nuthu ya Manase makĩringa mũrĩmo, meeohete indo cia mbaara, marĩ mbere ya andũ a Isiraeli, o ta ũrĩa Musa aamaathĩte.
The tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh passed before the people of Israel formed up as an army, just as Moses said to them.
13 Andũ ta 40,000 methagathagĩte na meeohete indo cia mbaara makĩringa mũrĩmo ũcio, marĩ mbere ya Jehova, magĩkinya werũ-inĩ wa Jeriko.
About forty thousand men equipped for war passed before Yahweh, for battle on the plains of Jericho.
14 Mũthenya ũcio, Jehova agĩtũũgĩria Joshua maitho-inĩ ma andũ a Isiraeli othe; nao makĩmwĩtigĩra matukũ mothe marĩa aatũũrire muoyo, o ta ũrĩa meetigĩrĩte Musa.
On that day Yahweh made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel. They honored him—just as they honored Moses— all his days.
15 Ningĩ Jehova akĩĩra Joshua atĩrĩ,
Then Yahweh spoke to Joshua,
16 “Atha athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa makuuĩte ithandũkũ rĩa Ũira mambate moimĩre Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani.”
“Command the priests who carry the ark of the testimony to come up out of the Jordan.”
17 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Joshua agĩatha athĩnjĩri-Ngai acio, akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Ambatai mumĩre Jorodani.”
So, Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up out of the Jordan.”
18 Nao athĩnjĩri-Ngai makĩambata, makiuma rũũĩ makuuĩte ithandũkũ rĩa kĩrĩkanĩro kĩa Jehova. Maarĩkia gũkinyithia magũrũ mao thĩ nyũmũ o ũguo-rĩ, maaĩ ma Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani magĩcookana handũ hamo, ningĩ makĩiyũra hũgũrũrũ ciaruo o ta mbere.
When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of their feet were lifted up out on dry ground, then the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and overflowed its banks, just as they were four days before.
19 Na rĩrĩ, mũthenya wa ikũmi wa mweri wa mbere, andũ acio makĩambata, makiuma Jorodani na makĩamba kambĩ mwena wa irathĩro wa Jeriko, o kũu Giligali.
The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month. They stayed in Gilgal, east of Jericho.
20 Nake Joshua akĩiga mahiga marĩa ikũmi na meerĩ maarutĩtwo Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani kũu Giligali.
The twelve stones that they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal.
21 Akĩĩra andũ a Isiraeli atĩrĩ, “Mahinda marĩa magooka, rĩrĩa njiaro cianyu ikooria maithe ma cio atĩrĩ, ‘Ĩ gĩtũmi kĩa mahiga maya nĩ kĩĩ?’
He said to the people of Israel, “When your descendants ask their fathers in times to come, 'What are these stones?'
22 Hĩndĩ ĩyo nĩmũkamenyithia ciana cianyu ũhoro, mũmeere atĩrĩ, ‘Andũ a Isiraeli maaringire Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani rũhũĩte rũgatuĩka thĩ nyũmũ.’
Tell your children, 'This is where Israel crossed over the Jordan on dry ground.'
23 Nĩgũkorwo Jehova Ngai wanyu nĩahũithirie maaĩ ma Jorodani mbere yanyu nginya rĩrĩa mwarikire kũringa. Jehova Ngai wanyu eekire Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani o ta ũrĩa eekire Iria Itune rĩrĩa aarĩhũithirie mbere iitũ nginya rĩrĩa twarĩkirie kũringa.
Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you, until you had crossed over, just as Yahweh your God did to the Sea of Reeds, which he dried up for us until we passed over,
24 Eekire ũguo nĩgeetha andũ othe a thĩ mamenye atĩ guoko kwa Jehova kũrĩ hinya mũno, na nĩgeetha mũtũũre mwĩtigĩrĩte Jehova Ngai wanyu nginya tene.”
so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of Yahweh is mighty, and that you will honor Yahweh your God forever.”
