< Johana 1 >

1 Kĩambĩrĩria-inĩ Ũhoro aarĩ o kuo, nake Ũhoro aatũũrĩte na Ngai, na Ũhoro aarĩ Ngai.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word.
2 We aatũũrĩte na Ngai kuuma o kĩambĩrĩria.
He was with God in the beginning.
3 Indo ciothe ciombirwo na ũndũ wake; gũtirĩ kĩndũ kĩa iria ciombirwo kĩagĩire atarĩ ho.
All things were made through Him, and nothing that was made was made without Him.
4 Thĩinĩ wake kwarĩ muoyo, naguo muoyo ũcio nĩguo warĩ ũtheri wa andũ.
Life was in Him, and Life was the light of men.
5 Ũtheri ũcio nĩũtheraga nduma-inĩ, nayo nduma ndĩigana kũũhoota.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 Nĩguokire mũndũ watũmĩtwo nĩ Ngai; eetagwo Johana.
There was a man sent by God, whose name was John.
7 We okire arĩ mũira oimbũre ũhoro ũkoniĩ ũtheri ũcio, nĩgeetha andũ othe metĩkie nĩ ũndũ wake.
He arrived as a witness to offer testimony about the Light, so that all would believe through him.
8 We mwene tiwe warĩ ũtheri ũcio, no okire arĩ o ta mũira tu nĩgeetha oimbũre ũhoro wa ũtheri ũcio.
He was not the Light, but he was to offer testimony about the Light.
9 Ũtheri ũcio wa ma, ũrĩa ũtheragĩra o mũndũ o wothe, nĩwokaga thĩ.
The true Light, which illuminates every man, was coming into this world.
10 We Ũhoro aarĩ gũkũ thĩ, no o na gũtuĩka thĩ yombirwo na ũndũ wake-rĩ, andũ a thĩ matiigana kũmũmenya.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not recognize him.
11 Okire gwake mwene, no andũ ake mwene matiigana kũmwĩtĩkĩra.
He went to his own, and his own did not accept him.
12 No andũ arĩa othe maamwĩtĩkĩrire, o acio metĩkirie rĩĩtwa rĩake, nĩamahotithirie gũtuĩka ciana cia Ngai
Yet whoever did accept him, those who believed in his name, he gave them the power to become the sons of God.
13 ciana itaciarĩtwo nĩ thakame, kana igaciarwo nĩ kwenda kwa mwĩrĩ kana kwenda kwa mũndũ, no iciarĩtwo nĩ kwenda kwa Ngai.
These are born, not of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
And the Word became flesh, and he lived among us, and we saw his glory, glory like that of an only-begotten Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 Johana nĩoimbũraga ũhoro wake. Aanagĩrĩra akoiga atĩrĩ, “Ũyũ nĩwe ũrĩa ndaaragia ũhoro wake ngiuga atĩrĩ, ‘Ũrĩa ũgũũka thuutha wakwa nĩ mũnene kũngĩra, tondũ aarĩ mbere yakwa.’”
John offers testimony about him, and he cries out, saying: “This is the one about whom I said: ‘He who is to come after me, has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”
And from his fullness, we all have received, even grace for grace.
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one ever saw God; the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he himself has described him.
19 Na rĩrĩ, ũyũ nĩguo ũira wa Johana hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Ayahudi a Jerusalemu maamũtũmĩire athĩnjĩri-Ngai na Alawii makamũũrie we aarĩ ũ.
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to him, so that they might ask him, “Who are you?”
20 We ndaagire kuumbũra, no oimbũrire atekũhitha, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ti niĩ Kristũ.”
And he confessed it and did not deny it; and what he confessed was: “I am not the Christ.”
21 Nao makĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Wee ũkĩrĩ ũ? Wee nĩwe Elija?” Nake akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Aca, ti niĩ.” Ningĩ makĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Nĩwe Mũnabii ũrĩa?” Nake agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Aca.”
And they questioned him: “Then what are you? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
22 Mũthia-inĩ makĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Wee ũkĩrĩ ũ? Tũhe macookio nĩguo tũcookerie arĩa matũtũmire. Ũkuuga atĩa ha ũhoro waku mwene?”
Therefore, they said to him: “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 Johana akĩmacookeria na ciugo iria ciarĩtio nĩ mũnabii Isaia, akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ndĩ mũgambo wa mũndũ ũranĩrĩra werũ-inĩ akoiga atĩrĩ, ‘Rũngariai njĩra ya Mwathani.’”
He said, “I am a voice crying out in the desert, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ just as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Na rĩrĩ, Afarisai amwe arĩa maatũmĩtwo
And some of those who had been sent were from among the Pharisees.
25 makĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Angĩkorwo we tiwe Kristũ, na tiwe Elija, o na kana Mũnabii ũrĩa-rĩ, ũkĩbatithanagia nĩkĩ?”
And they questioned him and said to him, “Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, and not the Prophet?”
26 Nake Johana akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ndĩmũbatithagia na maaĩ. No gatagatĩ-inĩ kanyu nĩ harĩ na ũmwe mũtooĩ.
John answered them by saying: “I baptize with water. But in your midst stands one, whom you do not know.
27 Ũcio nĩwe ũgũũka thuutha wakwa, o we ũrĩa itaagĩrĩire kuohora ndigi cia iraatũ ciake.”
The same is he who is to come after me, who has been placed ahead of me, the laces of whose shoes I am not worthy to loosen.”
28 Maũndũ maya mothe mekĩkire itũũra-inĩ rĩa Bethania, mũrĩmo wa Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani, kũrĩa Johana aabatithanagĩria.
These things happened in Bethania, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Mũthenya ũyũ ũngĩ, Johana akĩona Jesũ agĩũka na kũrĩ we, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Onei! Gatũrũme ka Ngai karĩa keheragia mehia ma kĩrĩndĩ!
On the next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him, and so he said: “Behold, the Lamb of God. Behold, he who takes away the sin of the world.
30 Ũyũ nĩwe ndaaragia ũhoro wake rĩrĩa ndoigire atĩrĩ, ‘Mũndũ ũrĩa ũgũũka thuutha wakwa nĩ mũnene kũrĩ niĩ tondũ we aarĩ kuo mbere yakwa.’
This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me arrives a man, who has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’
31 Niĩ mwene ndiamũũĩ, no ndokire ngĩbatithanagia na maaĩ nĩgeetha aguũrĩrio andũ a Isiraeli.”
And I did not know him. Yet it is for this reason that I come baptizing with water: so that he may be made manifest in Israel.”
32 Ningĩ Johana akĩheana ũira ũyũ: “Nĩndonire Roho agĩikũrũka kuuma igũrũ atariĩ ta ndutura, agĩikara igũrũ rĩake.
And John offered testimony, saying: “For I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove; and he remained upon him.
33 Niĩ ndingĩamũmenyire, tiga ũrĩa wandũmire mbatithanagie na maaĩ aanjĩĩrire atĩrĩ, ‘Mũndũ ũrĩa ũkoona Roho agĩikũrũkĩra na aikare igũrũ rĩake-rĩ, ũcio nĩwe ũkaabatithanagia na Roho Mũtheru.’
And I did not know him. But he who sent me to baptize with water said to me: ‘He over whom you will see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him, this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
And I saw, and I gave testimony: that this one is the Son of God.”
35 Ningĩ mũthenya ũyũ ũngĩ, Johana agĩkorwo arĩ kũu o rĩngĩ marĩ na arutwo ake eerĩ.
The next day again, John was standing with two of his disciples.
And catching sight of Jesus walking, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.”
37 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa arutwo acio eerĩ maiguire oiga ũguo, makĩrũmĩrĩra Jesũ.
And two disciples were listening to him speaking. And they followed Jesus.
38 Jesũ ehũgũra akĩmoona mamumĩte thuutha, akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ atĩa mũrenda?” Nao makĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Rabii” (ũguo nĩ kuuga Mũrutani), “ũikaraga kũ?”
Then Jesus, turning around and seeing them following him, said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi (which means in translation, Teacher), where do you live?”
39 Nake akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Ũkai na nĩmũkuona.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio magĩthiĩ makĩona kũrĩa aikaraga, na magĩikara nake mũthenya ũcio. Na kwarĩ ta thaa ikũmi.
He said to them, “Come and see.” They went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. Now it was about the tenth hour.
And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who had heard about him from John and had followed him.
First, he found his brother Simon, and he said to him, “We have found the Messiah,” (which is translated as the Christ).
42 Nake akĩmũtwara kũrĩ Jesũ. Nake Jesũ akĩmũrora, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Wee nĩwe Simoni mũrũ wa Johana. Ũgũcooka gwĩtwo Kefa” (na rĩo rĩgĩtaũrwo nĩ kuuga Petero).
And he led him to Jesus. And Jesus, gazing at him, said: “You are Simon, son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas,” (which is translated as Peter).
43 Mũthenya ũyũ ũngĩ Jesũ agĩtua itua rĩa gũthiĩ Galili. Agĩkora Filipu, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Nũmĩrĩra.”
On the next day, he wanted to go into Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Filipu agĩkora Nathanieli, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Nĩtuonete mũndũ ũrĩa Musa aandĩkire ũhoro wake Ibuku-inĩ rĩa Watho, na nowe anabii maandĩkire ũhoro wake, nake nĩwe Jesũ wa Nazarethi, mũrũ wa Jusufu.”
Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the Law and the Prophets: Jesus, the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”
46 Nake Nathanieli akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Kũrĩ kĩndũ kĩega kĩngiuma Nazarethi?” Nake Filipu akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Ũka ũkoone.”
And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Jesũ onire Nathanieli agĩũka kũrĩ we, akĩaria ũhoro wake, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Onei Mũisiraeli kũna ũtarĩ ũhinga.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, and he said about him, “Behold, an Israelite in whom truly there is no deceit.”
48 Nake Nathanieli akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Ũnjũũĩ atĩa?” Jesũ akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Nĩngũkuonete o na rĩrĩa uuma rungu rwa mũkũyũ, Filipu atanagwĩta.”
Nathanael said to him, “From where do you know me?” Jesus responded and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Hĩndĩ ĩyo Nathanieli akiuga atĩrĩ, “Rabii, wee nĩwe Mũrũ wa Ngai; wee nĩwe Mũthamaki wa Isiraeli.”
Nathanael answered him and said: “Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.”
50 Nake Jesũ akiuga atĩrĩ, “Wetĩkia tondũ nĩndakwĩra atĩ nĩnguonire ũrĩ rungu rwa mũkũyũ. Nĩũkuona maũndũ manene kũrĩ macio.”
Jesus responded and said to him: “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe. Greater things than these, you will see.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the Angels of God ascending and descending over the Son of man.”
