< Johana 12 >
1 Mĩthenya ĩtandatũ mbere ya Gĩathĩ kĩa Bathaka gũkinya, Jesũ agĩthiĩ Bethania, kũrĩa Lazaro ũrĩa aariũkĩtie aatũũraga.
So then Jesus came six days before the Passover, to Bethany, where Lazarus was whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
So they gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served it; but Lazarus was one of those who reclined with him at table.
Then Mary took a pound of pure spikenard, very costly, and poured it over his feet, and wiped his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4 No mũrutwo ũmwe wa Jesũ wetagwo Judasi Isikariota, ũrĩa wacookire kũmũkunyanĩra, akĩregana na ũndũ ũcio, akiuga atĩrĩ,
Then said Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, who was about to betray him,
5 “Nĩkĩ kĩragiririe maguta macio mendio na mbeeca icio iheo athĩĩni? Nĩmaraiganĩte mũcaara wa mwaka mũgima.”
"Why was not this perfume sold for fifty dollars, and the proceeds given to the poor?"
6 Ndoigire ũguo nĩ ũndũ wa gũcaĩra athĩĩni, no oigire ũguo nĩ ũndũ aarĩ mũici, tondũ nĩwe wakuuaga mũhuko wa mbeeca, na nĩaiyaga imwe akahũthĩra we mwene.
This he said not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and, carrying the purse,
7 Nake Jesũ agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Tiganai nake, araigĩte maguta macio nĩ ũndũ wa mũthenya ũrĩa ngaathikwo.
used to purloin what was put in it. Then said Jesus. "Let her alone. Against the day of my burial has she kept this;
8 Athĩĩni mũrĩ nao hĩndĩ ciothe, no niĩ mũtirĩkoragwo na niĩ hĩndĩ ciothe.”
for the poor you have with you always, but me you have not always."
9 Ihinda-inĩ o rĩu gĩkundi kĩnene kĩa Ayahudi gĩkĩmenya atĩ Jesũ aarĩ kũu na gĩgĩũka, na gĩtiokire nĩ ũndũ wa Jesũ tu, no ningĩ nĩgeetha kĩone o na Lazaro ũcio aariũkĩtie kuuma kũrĩ arĩa akuũ.
When the great mass of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came not alone because of Jesus, but to see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene magĩthugunda kũũraga Lazaro o nake,
And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too,
11 nĩgũkorwo nĩ ũndũ wake Ayahudi aingĩ nĩmathiiaga kũrĩ Jesũ na makamwĩtĩkia.
because it was on his account that many of the Jews were leaving them, and beginning to believe on Jesus.
12 Mũthenya ũcio ũngĩ andũ aingĩ arĩa mokĩte nĩ ũndũ wa Gĩathĩ kĩu makĩigua atĩ Jesũ aarĩ njĩra-inĩ agĩthiĩ Jerusalemu.
Next day the big crowd who had come up for the Passover heard that Jesus was coming into Jerusalem,
13 Magĩkuua mĩkĩndũ, magĩthiĩ namo kũmũtũnga, makĩanagĩrĩra atĩrĩ, “Hosana!” “Kũrathimwo-rĩ, nĩ mũndũ ũrĩa ũgũũka na rĩĩtwa rĩa Mwathani!” “Kũrathimwo-rĩ, nĩ Mũthamaki wa Isiraeli!”
and taking branches from the palm trees went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord. Even Israel’s King!"
14 Nake Jesũ akĩona njaũ ya ndigiri, akĩmĩikarĩra, o ta ũrĩa kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ,
And Jesus found a young ass and seated himself on it, as it is written,
15 “Tiga gwĩtigĩra, wee Mwarĩ wa Zayuni; ta rora, mũthamaki waku nĩarooka, aikarĩire njaũ ya ndigiri.”
Fear not, daughter of Zion, Behold thy King cometh seated upon an ass’s colt.
16 Arutwo ake matiambĩte gũtaũkĩrwo nĩ gĩtũmi kĩa maũndũ macio. No Jesũ aarĩkia kũgoocithio nĩguo maataũkĩirwo atĩ maũndũ macio maandĩkĩtwo nĩ ũndũ wake, na atĩ ũguo noguo maamwĩkĩte.
His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus had been glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written concerning him, and what they had done to him.
17 Nakĩo gĩkundi kĩa andũ kĩrĩa kĩarĩ nake rĩrĩa eetire Lazaro oime mbĩrĩra-inĩ na akĩmũriũkia kuuma kũrĩ arĩa akuũ gĩgĩthiĩ na mbere kũmemerekia ũhoro ũcio.
Meanwhile the crowd which was with him when he summoned Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, kept witnessing.
18 Andũ aingĩ magĩũka gũtũnga Jesũ nĩ ũndũ nĩmaiguĩte atĩ nĩaringĩte kĩama kĩu.
For this reason, too, the crowd came to meet him, because they had heard about this sign which he had done.
19 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Afarisai makĩĩrana atĩrĩ, “Ta kĩonei tũtirĩ ũndũ tũreeka. Onei ũrĩa andũ othe mamũrũmĩrĩire!”
Then the Pharisees said among themselves. "You see! You can do nothing! Look! The world is gone after him!"
20 Na rĩrĩ, nĩ kwarĩ na Ayunani gatagatĩ-inĩ ka arĩa maathiĩte gũthathaiya Ngai Gĩathĩ-inĩ kĩu.
Now there were certain Greeks among those who had come up to worship during the Passover feast;
21 Nao magĩũka kũrĩ Filipu, ũrĩa woimĩte itũũra rĩa Bethisaida kũu Galili, marĩ na ihooya, makĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Mũthuuri ũyũ, no twende kuona Jesũ.”
these came to Philip of Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we want to see Jesus."
22 Nake Filipu agĩthiĩ akĩĩra Anderea ũhoro ũcio, nao eerĩ magĩthiĩ makĩĩra Jesũ.
Philip went and told Andrew. Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered.
23 Nake Jesũ akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Ihinda nĩrĩkinyu Mũrũ wa Mũndũ agoocithio.
"The hour is come that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ na ma, tiga hĩndĩ ya ngano yambire kũgũa tĩĩri-inĩ ĩkue-rĩ, ĩtũũraga ĩrĩ iiki. No ĩngĩkua, nĩĩciaraga maciaro maingĩ.
In solemn truth I tell you that except a kernel of wheat fall into the ground and die, it remains a single kernel; but if it die it bears a great crop.
25 Mũndũ ũrĩa wendete muoyo wake nĩakoorwo nĩguo, na mũndũ ũrĩa ũthũire muoyo wake arĩ gũkũ thĩ, nĩakaũtũũria nginya muoyo wa tene na tene. (aiōnios )
He who loves his life loses it; and he who regards not his life in this world shall keep it for eternal life. (aiōnios )
26 Ũrĩa wothe ũndungatagĩra no nginya anũmĩrĩre, nĩgeetha harĩa ndĩ o nayo ndungata yakwa ĩgaakorwo ho. Ũrĩa ũndungatagĩra-rĩ, nake Baba nĩarĩmũtĩĩaga.
If any one is ready to serve me, let him follow me; and where I am there shall my servant be also. If any man is ready to serve me, him will my Father honor.
27 “Rĩu ngoro yakwa nĩĩratangĩka, na niĩ ngũkiuga atĩa? Njuge, ‘Baba honokia harĩ ihinda rĩĩrĩ’? Aca, gĩtũmi gĩkĩ nĩkĩo gĩtũmĩte nginyie ihinda rĩĩrĩ.
Now is my soul disquieted. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? Nay, for this very cause I am come to this hour.
28 Baba, goocithia rĩĩtwa rĩaku!” Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũgambo ũkiuma igũrũ ũkiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩndĩrĩgoocithĩtie na no ngũrĩgoocithia o rĩngĩ.”
Father, glorify thy name!" Whereupon there came a voice from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again."
29 Nakĩo gĩkundi kĩa andũ kĩrĩa kĩarĩ ho na gĩkĩigua ũguo, gĩkiuga atĩ mũgambo ũcio nĩwarurumaga; nao arĩa angĩ makiuga atĩ nĩ mũraika wamwarĩria.
Then the crowd who stood around and heard it, said, "It thundered!" But others said, "An angel has spoken to him."
30 Nake Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Mũgambo ũcio ndũnaaria nĩ ũndũ wakwa, no waria nĩ ũndũ wanyu.
"It is not for my sake," answered Jesus, "that the voice came, but for your sakes.
31 Hĩndĩ nĩ nginyu thĩ ĩno ĩtuĩrwo ciira; nake mũnene wa thĩ ĩno nĩekũingatwo.
Now is a judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be driven out.
32 No niĩ ndaarĩkia kũhaicio igũrũ kuuma thĩ, nĩngaguucĩrĩria andũ othe harĩ niĩ.”
"AND I, IF I BE LIFTED UP FROM THE EARTH, WILL DRAW ALL MEN UNTO MYSELF."
33 Oigire ũguo nĩgeetha onanie gĩkuũ kĩrĩa agaakua.
(In saying this he was signifying by what kind of death he was to die.)
34 Gĩkundi kĩu gĩkiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩtũiguĩte kuuma Watho-inĩ atĩ Kristũ egũtũũra tene na tene, nĩ ũndũ ũcio-rĩ, nĩ atĩa ũguo woiga atĩ ‘Mũrũ wa Mũndũ no nginya ahaicio igũrũ’? Ũcio ‘Mũrũ wa Mũndũ’ nũũ?” (aiōn )
Then the people answered. "We have heard out of the Law that the Christ abides forever. What do you mean by ‘The Son of man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of man?" (aiōn )
35 Nake Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Nĩmũgũkorwo na ũtheri ihinda rĩngĩ inini. Thiiagai rĩrĩa mũrĩ na ũtheri, nduma ĩtanamũtumanĩra. Mũndũ ũrĩa ũthiiaga na nduma ndamenyaga kũrĩa arathiĩ.
"The Light is among you a little longer," answered Jesus. "Walk while you have the Light, lest darkness overtake you. He who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
36 Mwĩhokagei ũtheri hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mũrĩ naguo, nĩgeetha mũtuĩke ciana cia ũtheri.” Nake Jesũ aarĩkia kwaria, akĩmehitha, agĩĩthiĩra.
While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become Sons of Light."
37 O na thuutha wa Jesũ kũringa ciama icio ciothe makĩonaga-rĩ, matiigana kũmwĩtĩkia.
With these words Jesus went away and hid himself from them. But although he had wrought such signs in their presence, still they did not believe in him.
38 Ũndũ ũcio warĩ wa kũhingia kiugo kĩa Isaia ũrĩa mũnabii kĩrĩa kĩũragia atĩrĩ: “Mwathani, nũũ wĩtĩkĩtie ũhoro witũ, nakuo guoko kwa Mwathani kũguũrĩirio ũ?”
So the words spoken by Isaiah, the prophet, were fulfilled. Lord, who hath believed our message, And to whom hath the Arm of the Lord been revealed?
39 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio matingĩetĩkirie, nĩ tondũ Isaia nĩoigĩte handũ hangĩ atĩrĩ:
This was why they could not believe, because Isaiah said again.
40 “Nĩamatuĩte atumumu, na akoomia ngoro ciao, nĩgeetha matikoone na maitho mao, kana mataũkĩrwo ngoro-inĩ ciao, o na kana magarũrũke, na niĩ ndĩmahonie.”
He hath blinded their eyes and make their hearts hard, Lest they should see with their eyes, perceive with their minds, And should turn, and I should heal them.
41 Isaia oigire ũguo nĩ ũndũ nĩooneete riiri wa Jesũ, na akĩaria ũhoro wake.
Isaiah uttered these words because he saw his glory, and he spoke of him.
42 No o na gũtariĩ o ũguo, aingĩ o na gatagatĩ ka atongoria a Ayahudi nĩmamwĩtĩkirie. No nĩ ũndũ wa Afarisai, matingĩoimbũrire wĩtĩkio wao nĩ gwĩtigĩra matikaingatwo thunagogi;
Nevertheless, even among the rulers many believed on him, but did not confess in on account of the Pharisees, for fear lest they be put out of the Synagogue.
43 nĩgũkorwo nĩmendete kũgoocwo nĩ andũ gũkĩra kũgoocwo nĩ Ngai.
For they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.
44 Jesũ agĩcooka akĩanĩrĩra na mũgambo mũnene, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Mũndũ ũrĩa ũnjĩtĩkĩtie, to niĩ nyiki etĩkĩtie, no etĩkĩtie o na ũrĩa wandũmire.
Now Jesus, speaking in a loud voice, had said.
45 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mũndũ ũcio andora, onaga ũrĩa wandũmire.
"He who believes in me believes not in me, but in Him who sent me; and he who sees me sees him who sent me.
46 Niĩ njũkĩte gũkũ thĩ ndĩ ũtheri, nĩgeetha gũtikagĩe o na ũmwe ũnjĩtĩkĩtie ũngĩikara nduma-inĩ.
Like light am I come into the world, so that no one who believes in me may remain in darkness.
47 “Ha ũhoro wa mũndũ ũrĩa ũiguaga ũhoro wakwa no akaaga kũũhingia, ndikũmũtuĩra ciira; nĩgũkorwo ndiokire gũtuĩra andũ a thĩ ciira, no ndokire kũmahonokia.
And if any one hears my words and does not keep them, it is not I who judge him; for I am not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 Mũtuanĩri ciira arĩ ho, harĩ mũndũ ũrĩa ũndegaga na akaaga gwĩtĩkĩra ciugo ciakwa; kiugo kĩu ndaaririe nĩkĩo gĩkaamũtuĩra ciira mũthenya wa mũthia.
He who rejects me, and does not receive my words, has indeed a judge. The message which I have spoken, that shall judge him in the Last Day,
49 Nĩgũkorwo ndiaririe ndĩĩrĩte niĩ mwene, no Baba ũrĩa wandũmire nĩwe wanjathire ũrĩa ingiuga, na ũrĩa ingĩaria.
because I have never spoken on my own authority, but the Father himself who sent me gave me commandment what to say and what words to speak.
50 Nĩnjũũĩ atĩ rĩathani rĩake rĩkinyagia mũndũ muoyo-inĩ wa tene na tene. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio ũhoro ũrĩa wothe njaragia no ũrĩa Baba anjĩĩrĩte njarie.” (aiōnios )
And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So whatever I speak, I speak as the Father has told me." (aiōnios )
