< Ayubu 30 >

1 “No rĩu-rĩ, andũ ethĩ kũngĩra nĩmaanyũrũragia, arĩa o na itangĩendire gũturanĩra maithe mao na ngui ciakwa cia rũũru.
But now people much younger than me laugh at me; people whose fathers I would not put to work with my sheepdogs.
2 Hinya wa moko mao ũngĩangʼunire nakĩ, kuona atĩ hinya wao nĩwamehereire?
They are too weak to be any use to me; they're all worn-out.
3 Nĩmathĩnĩkĩte nĩ ũndũ wa wagi na ngʼaragu, ũtukũ-rĩ, moorũũraga bũrũri mũngʼaru, bũrũri mwanangĩku ũkirĩte ihooru.
Thin through hunger and want, they try to eat the dry ground in the dark, desolate wilderness.
4 Maahaaraga nyeni cia mahuti ma cumbĩ kuuma ihinga-inĩ, na irio ciao ciarĩ mĩri ya mũtĩ wa kĩhaato.
There they pick desert herbs and the leaves of bushes, and eat the roots of broom trees.
5 Nĩmaingatirwo kuuma kũrĩ mũingĩ, makiugĩrĩrio ta maarĩ aici.
They were driven out of the community.
6 Nĩmahatĩrĩirio maikarage mĩkuru-inĩ ya tũrũũĩ tũhũu, kũu ndwaro-inĩ cia mahiga na marima-inĩ marĩa marĩ thĩ.
People shouted after them as if they were thieves. They have to live in dangerous ravines, in caves and among the rocks.
7 Maanagia ta nyamũ kũu ihinga-inĩ, makahatĩkanagĩra kũu mahuti-inĩ.
They shout out like animals among the bushes; they huddle together in the weeds for shelter.
8 Rũciaro rũtarĩ kĩene na rũtarĩ rĩĩtwa, nĩ rwarutũrũrirwo ruume kũu bũrũri-inĩ.
They are foolish, nameless people that have been driven from the land.
9 “Na rĩu ariũ ao maraanyũrũria na rwĩmbo; ngagĩtuĩka wa kuunagwo thimo nĩo.
Yet now they mock me in their songs; I have become a joke to them!
10 Nĩmathũire na magaikaraga haraihu na niĩ; matiĩtigagĩra kũnduĩra mata ũthiũ.
They despise and shun me; they don't hesitate to spit in my face.
11 Nĩ ũndũ rĩu Ngai nĩaregeretie ũta wakwa, na akandeehera mathĩĩna-rĩ, matirĩ ũndũ merigagĩrĩria gwĩka marĩ harĩa ndĩ.
God has made my bowstring loose and humbled me.
12 Mwena wakwa wa ũrĩo kũrĩ rũrĩrĩ rũratharĩkĩra; maigagĩra magũrũ makwa mĩtego, na magaaka ihumbu ciao cia gũũtharĩkĩra.
The rabble rise up against me, they send me running; like a city under siege they devise ways to destroy me.
13 Maharaganagia njĩra yakwa; mahotaga kũnyũnũha o na gũtarĩ na mũndũ ũramateithia.
They cut off my way of escape; they bring about my downfall and do this without anyone's help.
14 Mokĩte ta matoonyeire mwanya-inĩ mwariĩ; mokĩire gatagatĩ ga kũu kwanangĩku, makaamomokera.
They come in through a wide breach; they rush in as the wall comes tumbling down.
15 Imakania nĩcihootete; gĩtĩĩo gĩakwa kĩũmbũrĩtwo ta kĩhurutĩtwo nĩ rũhuho, naguo ũgitĩri wakwa ũkabuĩria ta itu.
Terrors overcome me; my honor is blown away by the wind; my salvation vanishes like a cloud.
16 “Na rĩu muoyo wakwa nĩũrathirĩrĩkĩra; matukũ ma thĩĩna nĩmanyiitĩte.
And now my life is ebbing away; every day despair grips me.
17 Ũtukũ ũtheecangaga mahĩndĩ makwa; ruo rwa gũthegenya rũtindigithagĩria.
At night my bones are in agony; the pain gnaws at me and never stops.
18 Ngai angũnjakũnjaga ta nguo na ũndũ wa ũhoti wake mũnene; aanyiitaga ta kanjũ yakwa ngingo-inĩ.
God grabs me roughly by my clothes; he pulls me by the collar of my shirt.
19 Anjikĩtie ndoro-inĩ, ngatuĩka ta rũkũngũ na ta mũhu.
He has thrown me in the mud; he has humbled me like dust and ashes.
20 “Nĩwe ndĩrakaĩra, o Wee Ngai, no ndũranjĩtĩka; ndĩrarũgama, no wee no kũndora ũrandora.
God, I cry to you but you don't answer; I stand before you, but you don't even notice me.
21 Wee nĩũngarũrũkĩte ũtarĩ na tha; ũtharĩkĩire na hinya wa guoko gwaku.
You have turned cruel to me; you use your power to make me suffer.
22 Nĩũũhurĩtie, ũkaandindĩka mbere ya rũhuho; ũũnyugutanĩtie kĩhuhũkanio-inĩ.
You pick me up and blow me along in the wind; tossing me about in the whirlwind.
23 Nĩnjũũĩ nĩũkanginyia o gĩkuũ-inĩ, ũndware kũrĩa gwathĩrĩirwo arĩa othe marĩ muoyo.
I know you're taking me to my death, to the place where all the living go.
24 “Ti-itherũ gũtirĩ mũndũ ũũkagĩrĩra mũndũ ũthuthĩkĩte ngoro, hĩndĩ ĩrĩa egũkaya ateithio arĩ mĩnyamaro-inĩ.
Who would want to kick a man when he is down, when they cry for help in their time of trouble?
25 Niĩ-rĩ, githĩ ndianarĩrio nĩ arĩa marĩ na thĩĩna? Githĩ ngoro yakwa ndĩanaiguĩra arĩa athĩĩni kĩeha?
Didn't I weep for those having hard times? Didn't I grieve at what the poor suffered?
26 No rĩrĩ, rĩrĩa ndeerĩgagĩrĩra wega, ũũru ũgĩũka; rĩrĩa ndaacaragia ũtheri-rĩ, hĩndĩ ĩyo nduma ĩgĩũka.
But when I looked for good, only evil came, and when I waited for the light, all that came was darkness.
27 Nda yakwa ndĩtigaga kũruruma; matukũ ma thĩĩna nĩmanginyĩire.
Inside I am in turmoil, it never stops; I face days of despair.
28 Thiiaga njirĩte biũ, no ti ũndũ wa kũhĩa nĩ riũa; ngarũgama kĩũngano-inĩ ngakaya ndeithio.
I am so depressed; seeing the sun doesn't help. I stand up in the assembly and cry for help.
29 Nduĩkĩte mũrũ wa nyina na mbwe, ngatuĩka mũthiritũ wa ndundu.
I am like a brother to the jackals, a companion to owls.
30 Gĩkonde gĩakwa nĩkĩgarũrũkĩte, gĩgathita na gĩkoonũka; mwĩrĩ wakwa ũhiũhĩte nĩ ũrugarĩ.
My skin turns black on me; and my bones burn within me.
31 Kĩnanda gĩakwa kĩa mũgeeto kĩrutaga o mũgambo wa gũcakaya, naguo mũtũrirũ wakwa ũkaruta o mũgambo wa kĩrĩro.
My lyre only plays sad songs, and my pipe is the voice of those who weep.
