< Ayubu 15 >

1 Nake Elifazu ũrĩa Mũtemaani akĩũria atĩrĩ:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2 “Mũndũ mũũgĩ no acookie ũhoro na kwĩgereria, kana aiyũrie nda yake na rũhuho ruumĩte na irathĩro?
“Does a wise man answer with empty counsel or fill his belly with the hot east wind?
3 No eciirĩrĩre na ciugo cia tũhũ, kana na mĩario ĩtarĩ bata?
Should he argue with useless words or speeches that serve no purpose?
But you even undermine the fear of God and hinder meditation before Him.
5 Mehia maku nĩmo mataaraga kanua gaku; nawe ũthuurĩte kwaria na rũrĩmĩ rwa mũndũ mwara.
For your iniquity instructs your mouth, and you choose the language of the crafty.
6 Kanua gaku wee mwene nĩko karagũtuĩra ciira, ti gakwa: nayo mĩromo yaku wee mwene ĩkaaria ũira wa gũgũũkĩrĩra.
Your own mouth, not mine, condemns you; your own lips testify against you.
7 “Wee nĩwe mũndũ wa mbere gũciarwo? Wee-rĩ, waciarirwo mbere ya irĩma igĩe ho?
Were you the first man ever born? Were you brought forth before the hills?
8 Wee nĩũthikagĩrĩria ndundu ya Ngai? Wee wiki-rĩ, nowe ũrigĩtie na ũũgĩ?
Do you listen in on the council of God or limit wisdom to yourself?
9 Nĩ atĩa ũũĩ ithuĩ tũtooĩ? Nĩ ũmenyo ũrĩkũ ũrĩ naguo ithuĩ tũtarĩ?
What do you know that we do not? What do you understand that is not clear to us?
10 Tũrĩ na athuuri marĩ na mbuĩ na arĩa akũrũ mũno, andũ akũrũ o na gũkĩra thoguo.
Both the gray-haired and the aged are on our side— men much older than your father.
Are the consolations of God not enough for you, even words spoken gently to you?
12 Ngoro yaku ĩgũteete nĩkĩ, na nĩ kĩĩ kĩratũma ũikare ũkiunaga maitho,
Why has your heart carried you away, and why do your eyes flash,
13 nĩguo werekerie marakara maku kũrĩ Mũrungu, o na ũgaitũrũra ciugo ta icio kuuma kanua gaku?
as you turn your spirit against God and pour such words from your mouth?
14 “Mũndũ akĩrĩ kĩ, atĩ no ahote gũtuĩka mũtheru, o na mũndũ ũciarĩtwo nĩ mũndũ-wa-nja nake akĩrĩ kĩĩ, atĩ no ahote gũtuĩka mũthingu?
What is man, that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?
15 Angĩkorwo Ngai ndangĩhota kwĩhoka andũ arĩa ake aamũre-rĩ, na kũngĩkorwo o na igũrũ ti gũtheru maitho-inĩ make-rĩ,
If God puts no trust in His holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in His eyes,
16 mũndũ akĩrĩ kĩ atĩ amwĩhoke? Mũndũ nĩ mwaganu na nĩ kĩmaramari, anyuuaga waganu ta maaĩ!
how much less man, who is vile and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?
17 “Wee ta thikĩrĩria na nĩngũgũtaarĩria; reke ngwĩre ũrĩa nyonete,
Listen to me and I will inform you. I will describe what I have seen,
18 ngwĩre ũrĩa andũ arĩa oogĩ moigĩte, matekũhitha ũndũ o na ũmwe wa ũhoro ũrĩa maaheirwo nĩ maithe mao,
what was declared by wise men and was not concealed from their fathers,
19 (o acio oiki maaheetwo bũrũri hĩndĩ ĩrĩa gũtaarĩ mũndũ wa kũngĩ watuĩkanagia gatagatĩ-inĩ kao):
to whom alone the land was given when no foreigner passed among them.
20 Atĩrĩ, mũndũ mwaganu akoragwo na mĩnyamaro matukũ make mothe. Matukũ mothe ma ũcio ũtarĩ tha-rĩ, maigĩirwo o mĩnyamaro.
A wicked man writhes in pain all his days; only a few years are reserved for the ruthless.
21 Aiguaga o mĩgambo ya kũmakania mũno; hĩndĩ ĩrĩa maũndũ mothe moneka ta marĩ mega-rĩ, atunyani makamũtharĩkĩra.
Sounds of terror fill his ears; in his prosperity the destroyer attacks him.
22 Ndarĩ na kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro gĩa gwĩthara kuuma nduma-inĩ; etereirio kũũragwo na rũhiũ rwa njora.
He despairs of his return from darkness; he is marked for the sword.
23 Orũũraga agĩcaragia irio, oragie atĩrĩ, ‘Irĩ na kũ?’ Aikaraga amenyete atĩ mũthenya wa nduma ũrĩ o hakuhĩ.
He wanders about as food for vultures; he knows the day of darkness is at hand.
24 Mĩnyamaro na ruo rwa ngoro nĩcio imũmakagia; imũtooragia taarĩ mũthamaki wĩhaarĩirie kũmũtharĩkĩra,
Distress and anguish terrify him, overwhelming him like a king poised to attack.
25 nĩ ũndũ ainainagĩria Mũrungu ngundi, na akangʼathĩria Mwene-Hinya-Wothe,
For he has stretched out his hand against God and has vaunted himself against the Almighty,
rushing headlong at Him with a thick, studded shield.
Though his face is covered with fat and his waistline bulges with flesh,
28 agaatũũraga matũũra maanangĩku, na aikarage nyũmba itatũũragwo nĩ mũndũ, nyũmba itigairie o kũmomoka ituĩke ihumbu cia mahiga.
he will dwell in ruined cities, in abandoned houses destined to become rubble.
29 Ndagacooka gũkorwo arĩ mũtongu, naguo ũtonga wake ndũgatũũra, o na kana indo ciake itheereme kũu bũrũri-inĩ.
He will no longer be rich; his wealth will not endure. His possessions will not overspread the land.
30 Ndakahota kũũrĩra nduma; rũrĩrĩmbĩ nĩrũkahoohia thuuna ciake, nayo mĩhũmũ ya kanua ka Ngai nĩĩkamweheria.
He will not escape from the darkness; the flame will wither his shoots, and the breath of God’s mouth will carry him away.
Let him not deceive himself with trust in emptiness, for emptiness will be his reward.
32 Ihinda rĩake rĩtanakinya-rĩ, nĩakarĩhio mũigana wake wothe, na honge ciake itikarura.
It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not flourish.
33 Agaatuĩka ta mũthabibũ ũhũrũrĩtwo thabibũ ciaguo itarĩ njĩru, ahaane ta mũtamaiyũ ũraita kĩro kĩaguo.
He will be like a vine stripped of its unripe grapes, like an olive tree that sheds its blossoms.
34 Nĩgũkorwo andũ a thiritũ ya arĩa matooĩ Ngai matũũraga marĩ thaata, na mwaki nĩũgaacina hema cia arĩa mendete mahaki.
For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.
35 Magĩaga nda cia mathĩĩna, na magaciara waganu; nda ciao ithugundaga o maheeni.”
They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb is pregnant with deceit.”
