< Jakubu 4 >

1 Atĩrĩrĩ, nĩ kĩĩ gĩtũmaga kũgĩe na mbaara na ngũĩ thĩinĩ wanyu? Githĩ itiumaga merirĩria-inĩ manyu marĩa marũaga thĩinĩ wanyu?
Whence wars and fightings among you? Do they not come hence, even from your lusts, which war in your members?
2 Mwĩriragĩria kĩndũ no mũkaaga kũgĩa nakĩo. Ningĩ mũũraganaga na mũgacumĩkĩra, no mũtingĩhota kũgĩa na kĩrĩa mũkwenda. Mũtetanagia na mũkarũa. Mũgakĩaga kuona kĩndũ tondũ wa kwaga kũhooya Ngai.
You strongly desire, and have not; you kill, and are zealous, and can not obtain. You fight and war, but have not, because you ask not.
You ask, and do not receive, because you ask wickedly, that you may spend upon your lusts.
4 Inyuĩ atharania aya, kaĩ mũtooĩ atĩ kũgĩa ũrata na thĩ nĩ kũgĩa ũthũ na Ngai? Nĩ ũndũ ũcio mũndũ o wothe ũthuuraga kũgĩa ũrata na thĩ nĩkũgĩa ũthũ ya Ngai.
Adulterers, and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity against God? Whosoever, therefore, will be a friend of the world, is counted an enemy of God.
5 Kana mũgwĩciiria Maandĩko maaragia ũhoro ũtarĩ na gĩtũmi, atĩ roho ũrĩa Ngai aatũmire ũtũũrage thĩinĩ witũ nĩ ũiguaga ũiru mũno?
Do you think that the scripture speaks in vain? And does the spirit, who dwells in us, strongly incline to envy?
6 No nĩatũheaga wega wake makĩria. Kĩu nĩkĩo gĩtũmaga Maandĩko moige atĩrĩ: “Ngai nĩareganaga na arĩa etĩĩi no arĩa menyiihagia nĩo aheaga wega wake.”
But he gives greater favor. For it says, "God resists the proud, but gives favor to the humble."
7 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio mwĩnyiihagĩriei Ngai. Reganagai na mũcukani, nake nĩekũmũũrĩra.
Therefore, be subject to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Kuhĩrĩriai Ngai, nake nĩekũmũkuhĩrĩria. Mwĩthambei moko manyu inyuĩ ehia, na mũtherie ngoro cianyu inyuĩ andũ a ngoro igĩrĩ.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you men of two minds.
9 Iguai kĩeha, mũcakae, na mũgirĩke. Garũrai mĩtheko yanyu ĩtuĩke macakaya, nakĩo gĩkeno kĩanyu kĩgarũrũke gĩtuĩke kĩeha.
Be exceedingly afflicted, and mourn, and weep; and let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into sadness.
10 Mwĩnyiihĩriei Mwathani, nake nĩekũmũtũũgĩria.
Be humble in the presence of the Lord, and he will lift you up.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa ũgũtuĩra watho ciira-rĩ, ndũkoragwo ũkĩhingia watho, no ũkoragwo ũrĩ mũtuanĩri ciira.
He who speaks against his brother, and condemns his brother, speaks against the law, and condemns the law. But if you condemn the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 Kũrĩ Mũheani wa watho, na Mũtuanĩri ciira o ũmwe, o we ũrĩa ũrĩ na ũhoti wa kũhonokia na kũniinana. No wee-rĩ, ũkĩrĩ ũ nĩguo ũtuĩre mũndũ ũrĩa ũngĩ ciira?
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save, and to destroy. Who are you, that condemn another?
13 Rĩu ta thikĩrĩriai, inyuĩ mugaga atĩrĩ: “Ũmũthĩ kana rũciũ nĩtũgũthiĩ itũũra rĩna tũikare kuo mwaka ũmwe, tũrute wĩra wa wonjoria kuo, tũgĩe na mbeeca.”
Come, now, you who say, To-day, or to-morrow, we will go to such a city, and will abide there one year, and traffic in merchandise, and get gain;
14 No rĩrĩ, inyuĩ mũtiũĩ ũrĩa gũgaatuĩka rũciũ. Muoyo wanyu ũkĩrĩ kĩ? Inyuĩ mũrĩ o kĩbii kĩrĩa kĩonekaga o kahinda kanini, gĩgacooka gĩgathira biũ.
who do not know what shall be to-morrow. For what is your life? It is, indeed, a smoke, which appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.
15 Handũ ha ũguo-rĩ, mwagĩrĩirwo nĩ kugaga atĩrĩ, “Mwathani angĩenda-rĩ, nĩ tũgũtũũra muoyo na twĩkage ũndũ ũyũ na ũyũ.”
Instead of which, you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 No rĩu inyuĩ nĩ kwĩraha mwĩrahaga mũrĩ na nguthi. Mwĩraho ta ũcio wothe nĩ mũũru.
But now you boast in your proud speeches: all such boasting is evil.
17 Nĩ ũndũ wa ũguo, mũndũ wothe ũũĩ gwĩka wega na ndekaga-rĩ, ũcio nĩ kwĩhia ehagia.
Wherefore, to him who know how to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
