< Thaama 18 >
1 Na rĩrĩ, Jethero, ũrĩa warĩ mũthĩnjĩri ngai wa Midiani na mũthoni-we wa Musa, akĩigua maũndũ mothe marĩa Ngai eekĩire Musa na andũ ake a Isiraeli, na ũrĩa Jehova aarutire andũ a Isiraeli kuuma bũrũri wa Misiri.
And Jothor the priest of Madiam, the father-in-law of Moses, heard of all that the Lord did to his people Israel; for the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt.
2 Thuutha wa Musa gũcookia mũtumia wake Zipora, mũthoni-we Jethero nĩamwamũkĩrire,
And Jothor the father-in-law of Moses, took Sepphora the wife of Moses after she had been sent away,
3 hamwe na ariũ ake eerĩ. Mũriũ ũmwe eetagwo Gerishomu, nĩgũkorwo Musa oigire atĩrĩ, “Nĩnduĩkĩte mũgeni bũrũri-inĩ wene”;
and her two sons: the name of the one was Gersam, [his father] saying, I was a sojourner in a strange land; —
4 mũriũ ũcio ũngĩ eetagwo Eliezeri, nĩgũkorwo oigire atĩrĩ, “Ngai wa baba nĩwe warĩ mũteithia wakwa; nĩahonokirie kuuma rũhiũ-inĩ rwa Firaũni.”
and the name of the second Eliezer, saying, For the God of my father [is] my helper, and he has rescued me out of the hand of Pharao.
5 Jethero, mũthoni-we wa Musa, hamwe na mũtumia wa Musa na ariũ ake, magĩũka kũrĩ we kũu werũ-inĩ, kũrĩa aambĩte hema hakuhĩ na kĩrĩma kĩa Ngai.
And Jothor the father-in-law of Moses, and his sons and his wife, went forth to Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped on the mount of God.
6 Jethero nĩamũtũmanĩire akoiga atĩrĩ, “Niĩ, mũthoni-guo Jethero, nĩndĩrooka kũrĩ we tũrĩ na mũtumia waku na ariũ aku eerĩ.”
And it was told Moses, saying, Behold, your father-in-law Jothor is coming to you, and your wife and two sons with him.
7 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Musa agĩkiumagara agatũnge mũthoni-we, akĩinamĩrĩra, akĩmũmumunya. Makĩgeithania, na magĩcooka magĩtoonya hema thĩinĩ.
And Moses went forth to meet his father-in-law, and did him reverence, and kissed him, and they embraced each other, and he brought them into the tent.
8 Musa akĩhe mũthoni-we ũhoro wothe wa ũrĩa Jehova eekire Firaũni na andũ a Misiri nĩ ũndũ wa andũ a Isiraeli na, akĩmwĩra mathĩĩna mothe marĩa moonete rũgendo-inĩ, na ũrĩa Jehova aamahonoketie.
And Moses related to his father-in-law all things that the Lord did to Pharao and all the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the labor that had befallen them in the way, and that the Lord had rescued them out of the hand of Pharao, and out of the hand of the Egyptians.
9 Jethero nĩakenirio nĩ kũigua maũndũ macio mothe mega marĩa Jehova eekĩire Isiraeli, nĩ ũndũ wa kũhonokia andũ a Isiraeli kuuma guoko-inĩ kwa andũ a Misiri.
And Jothor was amazed at all the good things which the Lord did to them, forasmuch as he rescued them out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharao.
10 Jethero akiuga atĩrĩ, “Jehova arogoocwo, ũrĩa wamũteithũrire kuuma guoko-inĩ kwa andũ a Misiri na gwa Firaũni, na agĩteithũra andũ kuuma guoko-inĩ kwa andũ a Misiri.
And Jothor said, Blessed be the Lord, because he has rescued them out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharao.
11 Rĩu niĩ nĩmenyete atĩ Jehova nĩ mũnene gũkĩra ngai iria ingĩ ciothe, nĩgũkorwo ũguo nĩguo eekire arĩa maahatĩrĩirie Isiraeli metĩĩte.”
Now know I that the Lord is great above all gods, because of this, wherein they attacked them.
12 Hĩndĩ ĩyo Jethero, mũthoni-we wa Musa, akĩrehe maruta ma njino na magongona mangĩ ma kũrutĩra Ngai, nake Harũni agĩũka marĩ na athuuri othe a Isiraeli nĩguo marĩĩanĩre irio na mũthoni-we wa Musa, marĩ mbere ya Ngai.
And Jothor the father-in-law of Moses took whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for God, for Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with the father-in-law of Moses before God.
13 Mũthenya ũyũ ũngĩ Musa agĩikarĩra gĩtĩ nĩguo atuithanie andũ ciira, nao andũ makĩrũgama mamũthiũrũrũkĩirie kuuma rũciinĩ nginya o hwaĩ-inĩ.
And it came to pass after the morrow that Moses sat to judge the people, and all the people stood by Moses from morning till evening.
14 Rĩrĩa mũthoni-we onire wĩra ũrĩa wothe Musa aarutagĩra andũ, akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ wĩra ũrĩkũ ũyũ ũrarutĩra andũ aya? Nĩ kĩĩ gĩgũtũma ũrute wĩra wa gũtuithania ciira ũrĩ o wiki, nao andũ aya othe matindage marũngiĩ magũthiũrũrũkĩirie kuuma rũciinĩ nginya o hwaĩ-inĩ?”
And Jothor having seen all that [Moses] did to the people, says, What is this that you do to the people? therefore sit you alone, and all the people stand by you from morning till evening?
15 Musa akĩmũcookeria, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Tondũ andũ aya marokaga kũrĩ niĩ nĩguo mamenye wendi wa Ngai.
And Moses says to his father-in-law, Because the people come to me to seek judgment from God.
16 Rĩrĩa rĩothe marĩ na ũndũ matekũiguanĩra, ũrehagwo kũrĩ niĩ, na niĩ ngamatuithania na ngamamenyithia uuge wa Ngai na mawatho make.”
For whenever there is a dispute among them, and they come to me, I give judgment upon each, and I teach them the ordinances of God and his law.
17 Mũthoni-we wa Musa akĩmũcookeria, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ũrĩa ũreka ti wega.
And the father-in-law of Moses said to him, You do not this thing rightly,
18 Wee, na andũ aya marooka kũrĩ we nĩmũkwĩnogia na mĩnoga. Wĩra ũyũ nĩ mũritũ mũno makĩria harĩwe; ndũngĩũhota ũrĩ wiki.
you will wear away with intolerable weariness, both those and all this people which is with you: this thing is hard, you will not be able to endure it yourself alone.
Now then listen to me, and I will advise you, and God shall be with you: be you to the people in the things pertaining to God, and you shall bring their matters to God.
20 Marute uuge wa Ngai na mawatho make, na ũmoonie njĩra njega ya mũtũũrĩre na mawĩra marĩa magĩrĩire kũruta.
And you shall testify to them the ordinances of God and his law, and you shall show to them the ways in which they shall walk, and the works which they shall do.
21 No rĩrĩ, thuura andũ marĩ na ũhoti kuuma andũ-inĩ aya, andũ etigĩri Ngai, na andũ ehokeku arĩa mathũire kwamũkĩra ihaki, na ũmatue anene a kũrũgamagĩrĩra ikundi cia ngiri, na ikundi cia magana, na ikundi cia mĩrongo ĩtano, na ikundi cia makũmi.
And do you look out for yourself out of all the people able men, fearing God, righteous men, hating pride, and you shall set over the people captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens.
22 Reke matuĩke a gũtuithania andũ aya ciira mahinda mothe, no makũrehagĩre maciira marĩa maritũ; marĩa mahũthũ makamatuithanagia arĩ o. Ũndũ ũcio nĩũgũkũhũthĩria mũrigo, tondũ nĩmarĩgayanaga nawe.
And they shall judge the people at all times, and the too burdensome matter they shall bring to you, but they shall judge the smaller cases; so they shall relieve you and help you.
23 Ũngĩka ũguo na Ngai agwathe, nĩũrĩhotaga gwĩtiiria mĩnoga, na andũ aya othe marĩinũkaga maiganĩire.”
If you will do this thing, God shall strengthen you, and you shall be able to attend, and all this people shall come with peace into their own place.
24 Musa nĩathikĩrĩirie mũthoni-we na agĩĩka ũrĩa wothe aamũtaarire.
And Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did whatever he said to him.
25 Agĩthuura andũ marĩ na ũhoti kuuma Isiraeli guothe, akĩmatua atongoria a andũ acio; akĩmatua anene a ikundi cia ngiri, na ikundi cia magana, na ikundi cia mĩrongo ĩtano, na ikundi cia makũmi.
And Moses chose out able men out of all Israel, and he made them captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties and captains of tens over the people.
26 Magĩtuĩka a gũtuithanagia andũ ciira hĩndĩ ciothe. Maciira marĩa maritũ magatwarĩra Musa, no marĩa mahũthũ magatuithanagia arĩ o.
And they judged the people at all times; and every too burdensome matter they brought to Moses, but every light matter they judged themselves.
27 Musa agĩcooka akiugĩra mũthoni-we ũhoro, nake Jethero agĩcooka bũrũri wake mwene.
And Moses dismissed his father-in-law, and he returned to his own land.
