< Thaama 17 >

1 Mũingĩ wothe wa Isiraeli ũkiumagara kuuma Werũ wa Sini, ũkoimaga handũ hamwe ũgathiĩ harĩa hangĩ o ta ũrĩa Jehova aathanaga. Makĩamba hema ciao Refidimu, no gũtiarĩ maaĩ ma kũnyuuo nĩ andũ acio.
All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio andũ acio makĩnegenia Musa, makĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Tũhe maaĩ ma kũnyua.” Nake Musa akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Mũranegenia nĩkĩ? Nĩ kĩĩ gĩgũtũma mũgerie Jehova?”
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
4 Nake Musa agĩkaĩra Jehova akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Ngwĩka atĩa na andũ aya? Marĩ hakuhĩ kũhũũra na mahiga nyuguto.”
Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 Jehova agĩcookeria Musa, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Thiĩ mbere ya andũ aya. Thiĩi na athuuri amwe a Isiraeli na ũkuue rũthanju rũrĩa wagũthire Nili naruo.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6 Niĩ ngũrũgama hau mbere yaku, o hau hakuhĩ na rwaro rwa ihiga kũu Horebu. Gũtha ihiga, na maaĩ nĩmekuuma thĩinĩ warĩo nĩguo andũ manyue.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Musa agĩĩka ũguo athuuri a Isiraeli makĩonaga.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
7 Nake agĩĩta handũ hau Masa na Meriba, tondũ nĩho andũ a Isiraeli maanegenirie na makĩgeria Jehova, makĩũragia atĩrĩ, “Ĩĩ Jehova arĩ hamwe na ithuĩ kana aca?”
He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
8 Andũ a Amaleki nĩmookire makĩhithũkĩra andũ a Isiraeli kũu Refidimu.
Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
9 Musa akĩĩra Joshua atĩrĩ, “Thuura andũ amwe aitũ mumagare mũkahũũrane na andũ a Amaleki. Rũciũ ngaarũgama kĩrĩma igũrũ nyiitĩte rũthanju rwa Ngai na guoko.”
Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Salvation Yah], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
10 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Joshua akĩhũũrana na andũ a Amaleki o ta ũrĩa Musa aathanĩte; nake Musa, na Harũni na Huri makĩhaica kĩrĩma-inĩ.
So Joshua [Salvation Yah] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Rĩrĩa rĩothe Musa akoragwo oete moko make na igũrũ-rĩ, andũ a Isiraeli makahootana, no rĩrĩa agũithia moko make, andũ a Amaleki makahootana.
When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
12 Rĩrĩa Musa aanogire moko-rĩ, makĩoya ihiga makĩiga thĩ akĩrĩikarĩra. Harũni na Huri magĩkĩnyiitĩrĩra moko make, o ũmwe akanyiitĩrĩra guoko kũmwe, na ũcio ũngĩ kũu kũngĩ. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio moko ma Musa magĩikara mambarairio nginya riũa rĩgĩthũa.
But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
13 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Joshua akĩhoota mbũtũ cia andũ a Amaleki na rũhiũ rwa njora.
Joshua [Salvation Yah] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Ningĩ Jehova akĩĩra Musa atĩrĩ, “Andĩka ũndũ ũyũ ibuku-inĩ rĩa gĩkũnjo ũrĩ ũndũ wa gũtũũra ũririkanagwo na ũreke Joshua aũigue, tondũ nĩngeheria rĩĩtwa rĩa Amaleki biũ nao matigacooka kũririkanwo gũkũ thĩ.”
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Salvation Yah]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
15 Musa agĩaka kĩgongona na agĩgĩĩta atĩrĩ “Jehova Nĩwe Bendera yakwa.”
Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
16 Akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩgũkorwo moko nĩmambararirio na igũrũ kwerekera gĩtĩ-inĩ kĩa ũnene kĩa Jehova. Jehova arĩhũũranaga na andũ a Amaleki kuuma njiarwa na njiarwa.”
He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
