1 Ta thikĩrĩria wee Isiraeli. Rĩu ũrorete kũringa Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani ũthiĩ ũgatunye ndũrĩrĩ nene na irĩ hinya gũgũkĩra, bũrũri ũrĩ na matũũra manene mũno mathiũrũrũkĩirio na thingo ikinyĩte o igũrũ.
“Listen, O Israel: You shall cross over the Jordan today, in order to possess nations, very great and stronger than yourself, cities vast and walled even to the sky,
2 Andũ akuo marĩ hinya na nĩ araihu, nĩo Aanaki! Nĩũũĩ ũhoro wao, na nĩũiguĩte gũkĩĩrwo atĩrĩ: “Nũũ ũngĩhota gwĩtiiria andũ a Anaki?”
a people great and lofty, the sons of the Anakim, whom you yourselves have seen and heard, against whom no one is able to stand.
3 No menya wega ũmũthĩ atĩ Jehova Ngai waku nĩwe ũkũringa athiĩ mbere yaku ahaana ta mwaki wa kũniinana. Nĩakamaniina; amatoorie mbere yaku. Nawe nĩũkamarutũrũra ũmaniine biũ o narua, o ta ũrĩa Jehova aakwĩrĩire.
Therefore, you shall know today that the Lord your God himself will pass over before you, like a devouring and consuming fire, to crush and to wipe away and to utterly ruin them before your face, quickly, just as he has spoken to you.
4 Jehova Ngai waku aarĩkia kũmaingata mehere mbere yaku-rĩ, ndũkaneĩĩre atĩrĩ, “Jehova andehete gũkũ ndĩĩgwatĩre bũrũri ũyũ nĩ ũndũ wa ũthingu wakwa.” Aca, ti ũguo, no nĩ tondũ wa waganu wa ndũrĩrĩ icio, nĩkĩo Jehova egũciingata ciehere mbere yaku.
You should not say in your heart, when the Lord your God will have destroyed them in your sight: ‘It is because of my justice that the Lord led me in, so that I might possess this land, while these nations have been destroyed because of their impiety.’
5 Ti ũthingu waku o na kana ũrũngĩrĩru waku ũgũtũma ũkegwatĩre bũrũri wacio; no nĩ tondũ wa waganu wa ndũrĩrĩ icio-rĩ, Jehova Ngai waku nĩekũmarutũrũra mehere mbere yaku nĩguo ahingie ũrĩa eehĩtire kũrĩ maithe maku, nĩo Iburahĩmu, na Isaaka, na Jakubu.
For it is not because of your justices or the uprightness of your heart that you will enter, so that you may possess their lands. Instead, it is because they have acted wickedly that they are destroyed upon your arrival, and so that the Lord may accomplish his word, which he promised under oath to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
6 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, kĩmenye atĩ ti ũthingu waku ũtũmĩte Jehova Ngai waku akũhe bũrũri ũcio mwega ũwĩgwatĩre ũtuĩke waku, nĩgũkorwo inyuĩ mũrĩ andũ momĩtie ngingo.
Therefore, know that the Lord your God will not give you this excellent land as a possession due to your justices, for you are a very stiff-necked people.
7 Ririkanaga na ndũkanariganĩrwo nĩ ũrĩa warakaririe Jehova Ngai waku kũu werũ-inĩ. Kuuma mũthenya ũrĩa woimire bũrũri wa Misiri nginya rĩrĩa mwakinyire gũkũ, mũkoretwo mũkĩremera Jehova.
Remember, and never forget, how you provoked the Lord your God to anger in the wilderness. You have always contended against the Lord, from the day that you went forth from Egypt, even to this place.
8 Mũrĩ kũu Horebu nĩmwatũmire marakara ma Jehova maarahũke akĩrakara nginya akĩenda kũmũniina.
For at Horeb also, you provoked him, and, becoming angry, he was willing to destroy you,
9 Rĩrĩa ndaambatire kĩrĩma-inĩ nganengerwo ihengere cia mahiga, ihengere iria ciandĩkĩtwo kĩrĩkanĩro kĩrĩa Jehova aarĩkanĩire na inyuĩ, nĩndaikarire kũu kĩrĩma igũrũ matukũ mĩrongo ĩna, mũthenya na ũtukũ; ndiarĩire irio kana ngĩnyua maaĩ.
when I ascended onto the mountain, so that I might receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord formed with you. And I persevered on the mountain for forty days and nights, neither eating bread, nor drinking water.
10 Jehova nĩanengerire ihengere igĩrĩ cia mahiga ciandĩkĩtwo na kĩara kĩa Ngai. Ciandĩkĩtwo maathani mothe marĩa Jehova aamwarĩirie kũu kĩrĩma-inĩ arĩ thĩinĩ wa mwaki, mũthenya ũrĩa mwagomanĩte.
And the Lord gave me two tablets of stone, written with the finger of God and containing all the words that he spoke to you on the mountain from the midst of fire, while the people, being stirred up, were assembled together.
11 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa matukũ macio mĩrongo ĩna, mũthenya na ũtukũ, maathirire-rĩ, Jehova nĩanengerire ihengere icio igĩrĩ cia mahiga, ihengere icio cia kĩrĩkanĩro.
And when forty days, and as many nights, had passed, the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.
And he said to me: ‘Rise up, and descend quickly from here. For your people, whom you led away from Egypt, have quickly abandoned the way that you have shown to them, and they have made a molten idol for themselves.’
13 Ningĩ Jehova akĩnjĩĩra atĩrĩ, “Andũ aya nĩndĩmoonete, ngoona atĩ nĩ andũ momĩtie ngingo mũno!
And again, the Lord said to me: ‘I discern that this people is stiff-necked.
Depart from me, so that I may crush them, and abolish their name from under heaven, and appoint you over a nation, which will be greater and stronger than this one.’
15 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio ngĩhũndũka ngĩikũrũka kuuma kĩrĩma igũrũ o gĩkĩrĩrĩmbũkaga mwaki. Nacio ihengere icio igĩrĩ cia kĩrĩkanĩro ciarĩ moko-inĩ makwa.
And as I was descending from the burning mountain, and I held the two tablets of the covenant with both hands,
16 Rĩrĩa ndaacũthĩrĩirie, nĩndonire atĩ nĩmwehĩirie Jehova Ngai wanyu; nĩ mwethondekeire mũhianano wa gũtwekio ũhaana ta njaũ. Nĩmwagarũrũkĩte o narua mũgatiga kũrũmĩrĩra njĩra ĩrĩa Jehova aamwathĩte mũrũmagĩrĩre.
and I had seen that you had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made a molten calf for yourselves, and had quickly abandoned his way, which he had revealed to you,
17 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio ngĩnyiita ihengere icio igĩrĩ ngĩcirekania kuuma moko-inĩ makwa, nacio ikĩenyũkanga icunjĩ mũkĩĩonagĩra na maitho manyu.
I threw down the tablets from my hands, and I broke them in your sight.
18 Ningĩ ngĩĩgũithia thĩ mbere ya Jehova matukũ mĩrongo ĩna, mũthenya na ũtukũ; ndiigana kũrĩa irio kana ngĩnyua maaĩ, nĩ ũndũ wa mehia marĩa mothe mwekĩte, mũgeeka maũndũ mooru maitho-inĩ ma Jehova, mũgĩtũma arakare.
And I fell prostrate before the Lord, just as before, for forty days and nights, not eating bread, and not drinking water, because of all your sins, which you had committed against the Lord, and because you provoked him to anger.
19 Nĩndetigagĩra marakara na mangʼũrĩ ma Jehova, nĩgũkorwo nĩamũrakarĩire o kũigana ũndũ angĩamũniinire. No Jehova nĩathikĩrĩirie o rĩngĩ.
For I feared his indignation and wrath, which had been stirred up against you, so that he was willing to destroy you. And the Lord heeded me at this time also.
20 Nake Jehova nĩarakarĩire Harũni o kũigana ũndũ angĩamũniinire, no ihinda rĩu, nĩndahooeire Harũni o nake.
Likewise, he became vehemently angry against Aaron, and he was willing to destroy him, and I prayed for him similarly.
21 Ningĩ ngĩcooka ngĩoya kĩndũ kĩu kĩanyu kĩa wĩhia, nakĩo nĩkĩo njaũ ĩyo mwathondekete, na ngĩmĩcina na mwaki. Ngĩcooka ngĩmĩthethera ngĩmĩthĩa ĩgĩtuĩka mũtutu mũhinyu ta rũkũngũ, naruo rũkũngũ rũu ngĩrũikia karũũĩ gaathereraga koimĩte kĩrĩma-inĩ.
But as for your sin which you committed, that is, the calf, taking hold of it, I burned it with fire. And breaking it into pieces, and reducing it entirely to dust, I threw it into the torrent that descends from the mountain.
22 O na ningĩ nĩmwarakaririe Jehova mũrĩ kũu Tabera, na Masa, na Kibirothu-Hataava.
Likewise, at the Burning, and at the Temptation, and at the Graves of Lust, you provoked the Lord.
23 Na rĩrĩa Jehova aamũtũmire kuuma Kadeshi-Barinea, aamwĩrire atĩrĩ, “Ambatai mũthiĩ mũkegwatĩre bũrũri ũrĩa ndĩmũheete.” No nĩ mwaremeire watho wa Jehova Ngai wanyu. Mũtiigana kũmwĩhoka kana kũmwathĩkĩra.
And when he sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘Ascend and possess the land, which I have given to you,’ even so, you spurned the command of the Lord your God, and you did not believe him, nor were you willing to listen to his voice.
24 Kuuma rĩrĩa ndamũmenyire, mũtũũraga mũremeire Jehova.
Instead, you were ever rebellious, from the day when I first began to know you.
25 Nĩndegũithirie thĩ mbere ya Jehova matukũ macio mĩrongo ĩna, mũthenya na ũtukũ, tondũ Jehova nĩoigĩte atĩ nĩekũmũniina.
And so, I lay prostrate before the Lord for forty days and nights, as I humbly begged him, lest he destroy you, just as he had threatened to do.
26 Ngĩhooya Jehova, ngĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Wee Mwathani Jehova, tiga kũniina andũ aya aku, o aya igai rĩaku kĩũmbe arĩa wakũũrire na ũndũ wa hinya waku mũnene, ũkĩmaruta bũrũri wa Misiri na guoko gwaku kwa hinya.
And praying, I said: ‘O Lord God, do not destroy your people and your inheritance, whom you have redeemed in your greatness, whom you have led away from Egypt with a strong hand.
27 Ririkana ndungata ciaku Iburahĩmu, na Isaaka, na Jakubu. Tiga kũrora ũmũ wa ngoro cia andũ aya, na waganu wao, o na mehia mao.
Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not look upon the stubbornness of this people, nor upon their wickedness and sinfulness.
28 Kwaga ũguo, bũrũri ũrĩa wee watũrutire ũkoiga atĩrĩ, ‘Tondũ Jehova ndangĩahotire kũmakinyia bũrũri ũrĩa aamerĩire, na nĩ tondũ nĩamamenete-rĩ, nĩkĩo aamatwarire werũ-inĩ amooragĩre kuo.’
Otherwise, perhaps the inhabitants of the land, out of which you have led us, may say: “The Lord was not able to lead them into the land, which he promised to them. And he hated them; therefore, he led them out, so that he might put them to death in the wilderness.”
29 No andũ aya nĩ aku, o igai rĩaku kĩumbe, arĩa warutire kũu na ũndũ wa hinya waku mũnene, na guoko gwaku gũtambũrũkĩtio.”
These are your people and your inheritance, whom you have led out by your great strength, and with your outstretched arm.’”
