< Atũmwo 10 >
1 Na rĩrĩ, kũu Kaisarea nĩ kwarĩ mũndũ wetagwo Korinelio, ũrĩa warĩ mũnene-wa-thigari-igana rĩmwe cia mbũtũ ĩrĩa yoĩkaine ta Mbũtũ ya Italia.
There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.
3 Mũthenya ũmwe ta thaa kenda cia mĩaraho-rĩ, akĩona kĩoneki. Akĩona mũraika wa Ngai wega, ũrĩa wokire harĩ we na akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Korinelio!”
He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 Korinelio akĩmũrora aiyũrĩtwo nĩ guoya, akĩũria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ kĩĩ Mwathani?” Nake mũraika akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Mahooya maku na indo iria ũheete andũ arĩa athĩĩni nĩikinyĩte igũrũ kũrĩ Ngai rĩrĩ iruta rĩa kũririkanwo.
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Your prayers and your alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 Na rĩrĩ, tũma andũ mathiĩ Jopa magĩĩre mũndũ wĩtagwo Simoni, na nowe wĩtagwo Petero.
And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 Araikara gwa Simoni ũria mũtanduki wa njũũa, o ũrĩa nyũmba yake ĩrĩ rũtere-inĩ rwa iria.”
He lodges with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell you what you ought to do.
7 Rĩrĩa mũraika ũcio wamwarĩirie aathiire, Korinelio agĩĩta ndungata ciake igĩrĩ na mũthigari ũmwe weamũrĩire Ngai, na aarĩ ũmwe wa andũ arĩa maamũtungatagĩra.
And when the angel which spoke unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8 Akĩmeera ũrĩa wothe kwahanĩte agĩcooka akĩmatũma Jopa.
And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 Mũthenya ũcio ũngĩ warũmĩrĩire ta thaa thita cia mũthenya marĩ njĩra-inĩ makuhĩrĩirie itũũra rĩu-rĩ, Petero akĩhaica nyũmba-igũrũ nĩgeetha akahooe Ngai.
On the next day, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 Nake akĩigua aahũũta na akĩbatario nĩ kĩndũ gĩa kũrĩa, na rĩrĩa irio ciarugagwo-rĩ, akĩgocerera.
And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 Nake akĩona igũrũ rĩhingũrĩtwo na kĩndũ gĩatariĩ ta gĩtama kĩnene gĩkĩharũrũkio thĩ kĩnyiitĩtwo mĩthia ĩna.
And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Nakĩo kĩarĩ na nyamũ cia mĩthemba yothe ya iria irĩ magũrũ mana, o na nyamũ iria itaambaga thĩ, o na nyoni cia rĩera-inĩ.
Wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũgambo ũkĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Petero, ũkĩra. Thĩnja na ũrĩe.”
And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 Petero agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Aca, Mwathani! Ndirĩ ndarĩa kĩndũ gĩtarĩ kĩamũre, kana kĩndũ kĩrĩ thaahu.”
But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 Mũgambo ũkĩmwarĩria riita rĩa keerĩ ũkĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ndũkanoige kĩndũ o na kĩrĩkũ kĩrĩa Ngai atheretie atĩ ti kĩamũre.”
And the voice spoke unto him again the second time, What God has cleansed, that call not you common.
16 Ũndũ ũyũ wekĩkire maita matatũ, na o rĩmwe gĩtama kĩu gĩgĩcookio na igũrũ.
This was done three times: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17 Na rĩrĩa Petero eeyũragia gĩtũmi gĩa kĩoneki kĩu oonete-rĩ, andũ arĩa maatũmĩtwo nĩ Korinelio makĩona harĩa nyũmba ya Simoni yarĩ, na makĩrũgama hau kĩhingo-inĩ.
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
18 Magĩĩtana, makĩũria kana Simoni ũrĩa wĩtagwo Petero aaikaraga kũu.
And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit (pneuma) said unto him, Behold, three men seek you.
20 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, ũkĩra ũikũrũke, ũthiĩ nao na ndũkagĩe na nganja nĩgũkorwo nĩ niĩ ndĩmatũmĩte.”
Arise therefore, and get you down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21 Petero agĩikũrũka, akĩĩra andũ acio atĩrĩ, “Nĩ niĩ mũndũ ũcio mũracaria. Mũũkĩte nĩkĩ?”
Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom all of you seek: what is the cause wherefore all of you are come?
22 Nao andũ acio magĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Tuumĩte gwa Korinelio, ũrĩa mũnene-wa-thigari-igana rĩmwe. Nĩ mũndũ mũthingu na mwĩtigĩri-Ngai, na nĩatĩĩtwo nĩ Ayahudi othe. Mũraika mũtheru aramwĩrire atũmane ũthiĩ gwake mũciĩ nĩgeetha aigue ũrĩa ũrenda kuuga.”
And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that fears God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for you into his house, and to hear words (rhema) of you.
23 Hĩndĩ ĩyo Petero akĩĩra andũ acio matoonye nyũmba matuĩke ageni aake. Mũthenya ũyũ ũngĩ warũmĩrĩire Petero agĩthiĩ nao, na ariũ a Ithe witũ amwe kuuma Jopa magĩthiĩ nake.
Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the next day Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24 Naguo mũthenya ũcio ũngĩ warũmĩrĩire magĩkinya Kaisarea. Korinelio agĩkorwo ametereire na eetĩte andũ a nyũmba yake na arata a hakuhĩ.
And the next day after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and he had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25 Na rĩrĩa Petero aatoonyaga nyũmba, Korinelio akĩmũtũnga na akĩĩgũithia magũrũ-inĩ make amwĩnyiihĩrie.
And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26 No Petero akĩmũũkĩria, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Rũgama, niĩ ndĩ o mũndũ o na niĩ.”
But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27 O makĩaragia-rĩ, Petero agĩtoonya thĩinĩ na agĩkora gĩkundi kĩnene kĩa andũ.
And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
And he said unto them, All of you know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God has showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio rĩrĩa ndĩratũmanĩirwo, ndĩrokire itegũkararia. Njĩtĩkĩria ngũũrie kĩrĩa kĩratũmire ũndũmanĩre?”
Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent (logos) all of you have sent for me?
30 Nake Korinelio akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ: “Matukũ mana mahĩtũku, ndaarĩ thĩinĩ wa nyũmba yakwa ngĩhooya ithaa-inĩ ta rĩĩrĩ rĩa thaa kenda cia mĩaraho. Mũndũ warĩ na nguo ciahenagia akĩrũgama o rĩmwe mbere yakwa,
And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 akĩnjĩĩra atĩrĩ, ‘Korinelio, Ngai nĩaiguĩte mahooya maku, na nĩaririkanĩte iheo ciaku iria wanahe athĩĩni.
And said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio tũmana Jopa wĩtĩrwo Simoni ũrĩa wĩtagwo Petero, nake nĩ mũgeni gwa Simoni ũrĩa mũtanduki wa njũũa, ũrĩa ũikaraga rũtere-inĩ rwa iria.’
Send therefore to Joppa, and call here Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he comes, shall speak unto you.
33 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio nĩndagũtũmanĩire o hĩndĩ ĩyo, na nĩ weka wega nĩ ũndũ wa gũũka. Rĩu ithuĩ ithuothe tũrĩ haha mbere ya Ngai nĩgeetha tũthikĩrĩrie ũrĩa wothe Mwathani agwathĩte ũtwĩre.”
Immediately therefore I sent to you; and you have well done that you are come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded you of God.
34 Nake Petero akĩambĩrĩria kwaria, akiuga atĩrĩ: “Rĩu nĩndamenya kũna ũrĩa arĩ ma atĩ Ngai ndarĩ mũthutũkanio.
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Truthfully I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 no atĩ nĩetĩkagĩra andũ kuuma ndũrĩrĩ-inĩ ciothe arĩa mamwĩtigagĩra na mageeka ũrĩa kwagĩrĩire.
But in every nation he that fears him, and works righteousness, is accepted with him.
36 Inyuĩ nĩmũũĩ ndũmĩrĩri ĩrĩa Ngai aatũmĩire andũ a Isiraeli, akĩaria ũhoro mwega wa thayũ na ũndũ wa Jesũ Kristũ, ũrĩa arĩ we Mwathani wa andũ othe.
The word (logos) which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all: )
37 Inyuĩ nĩmũũĩ ũrĩa gwekĩkire kũu Judea guothe, kwambĩrĩria Galili thuutha wa ũbatithio ũrĩa Johana aahunjagia,
That word, (rhema) I say, all of you know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit (pneuma) and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40 No mũthenya wa gatatũ Ngai akĩmũriũkia kuuma kũrĩ arĩa akuũ na agĩtũma onekane kũrĩ andũ.
Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly;
41 We ndonirwo nĩ andũ othe, o tiga aira arĩa Ngai aathuurĩte: akĩonwo nĩ ithuĩ, o ithuĩ twarĩĩanĩire na tũkĩnyuuanĩra nake aarĩkia kũriũka kuuma kũrĩ arĩa akuũ.
Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42 Nĩatwathire tũhunjĩrie andũ na tũrute ũira atĩ we nĩ we Ngai aamũrire atuĩke mũtuanĩri-ciira wa andũ arĩa marĩ muoyo na arĩa makuĩte.
And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believes in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 Na Petero o akĩaragia ciugo icio-rĩ, Roho Mũtheru agĩikũrũkĩra andũ arĩa othe maiguire ndũmĩrĩri ĩyo.
While Peter yet spoke these words, (rhema) the Holy Spirit (pneuma) fell on all them which heard the word. (logos)
45 Nao andũ arĩa meetĩkĩtie, a thiritũ ya arĩa maruaga, arĩa mokĩte na Petero makĩgega mona atĩ kĩheo kĩa Roho Mũtheru nĩgĩaitĩrĩirio andũ-a-Ndũrĩrĩ o nao.
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit. (pneuma)
46 Nĩgũkorwo nĩmamaiguire makĩaria na thiomi makĩgoocaga Ngai. Hĩndĩ ĩyo Petero akĩũria atĩrĩ,
For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 “Harĩ mũndũ ũngĩgiria andũ aya mabatithio na maaĩ? Andũ aya nĩmamũkĩra Roho Mũtheru o ta ithuĩ.”
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Spirit (pneuma) as well as we?
48 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio agĩathana mabatithio thĩinĩ wa rĩĩtwa rĩa Jesũ Kristũ. Magĩcooka makĩũria Petero aikaranie nao ihinda rĩa mĩthenya mĩnini.
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
