1 Na rĩrĩ, ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ, ũhoro wa mahinda na mĩthenya-rĩ, tũtirĩ na bata wa kũmwandĩkĩra,
Brothers and sisters, we don't need to write anything to you about prophetic times and dates.
2 nĩgũkorwo nĩmũũĩ wega atĩ mũthenya wa Mwathani ũgooka o ta ũrĩa mũici okaga ũtukũ.
You yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 O rĩrĩa andũ maroiga atĩrĩ, “Kũrĩ thayũ na ũgitĩri,” hĩndĩ ĩyo nĩguo magaakorererwo nĩ mwanangĩko o rĩmwe, o ta ũrĩa mũtumia ũrĩ nda akoragĩrĩrwo nĩ ruo rwa kũheo mwana, nao matikahonoka.
When people talk about peace and security suddenly they will be completely ruined. It will be just like the sudden onset of childbirth, and they certainly won't escape.
4 No inyuĩ ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ, mũtirĩ nduma-inĩ atĩ nĩguo mũthenya ũcio ũmũkorerere ta mũici.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark about this so that you won't be caught by surprise when the Day of Judgment arrives suddenly like a thief.
5 Inyuĩ inyuothe mũrĩ ciana cia ũtheri na ciana cia mũthenya. Ithuĩ tũtirĩ a ũtukũ kana a nduma.
For you are all children of light and children of the day. We don't belong to the night or to darkness.
6 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio-rĩ, nĩtũtigei gũkoma ta acio angĩ, no nĩtũikarage twĩiguĩte na tũkerigagĩrĩria maũndũ.
So then we shouldn't be sleeping like everybody else—we should stay awake and keep ourselves clear-headed.
7 Nĩgũkorwo arĩa makomaga-rĩ, makomaga ũtukũ, na arĩa marĩĩagwo nĩ njoohi-rĩ, marĩĩagwo ũtukũ.
For it's during the night that people sleep; and it's at night that they get drunk.
8 No kuona atĩ ithuĩ tũrĩ a mũthenya-rĩ, nĩtũtuĩke a kwĩgirĩrĩria maũndũ, twĩhumbĩte gako ga kũgitĩra gĩthũri karĩa ka wĩtĩkio na ka wendani, na tũgekĩra ũhoro wa kwĩrĩgĩrĩra ũhonokio taarĩ ngũbia ya kĩgera ya kũgitĩra mũtwe.
But since we belong to the day we should keep our heads clear, strapping on the breastplate of trust and love, and putting on as a helmet the hope of salvation.
9 Nĩgũkorwo Ngai ndaatwamũrire nĩguo tũtuĩke a kũrakarĩrwo, no nĩtũtuĩke a kwamũkĩra ũhonokio thĩinĩ wa Mwathani witũ Jesũ Kristũ.
For God hasn't placed us in a position to be punished, but has reserved us for salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
10 We nĩatũkuĩrĩire nĩgeetha, twakorwo twĩiguĩte kana tũkomete-rĩ, tũgaatũũrania hamwe nake.
He's the one who died for us so that whether we're alive or dead we shall live together with him.
11 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio-rĩ, ũmanagĩrĩriai mũndũ na ũrĩa ũngĩ na mwĩkĩranage hinya o ta ũrĩa mũreka rĩu.
So encourage and strengthen one another, just as you are doing.
Brothers and sisters, we're asking you to respect those who work with you, who lead you in the Lord and teach you.
13 Mekagĩrĩrei mũno makĩria na mũmendage nĩ ũndũ wa wĩra ũcio marutaga. Tũũranagiai na thayũ mũndũ na ũrĩa ũngĩ.
You should value them highly in love for the work they do. Live in peace with each other.
14 Na ningĩ nĩtũkũmũringĩrĩria, inyuĩ ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ, mũkaanagie andũ arĩa igũũta, na mũũmagĩrĩrie arĩa marĩ guoya, na mũteithagie arĩa matarĩ hinya, na mũkiragĩrĩrie andũ othe.
We urge you, brothers and sisters, to warn those who are lazy, encourage those who are anxious, help those who are weak, and be patient with everyone.
15 Menyagĩrĩrai gũtikagĩe mũndũ ũkũrĩhĩria ũũru na ũũru, no hĩndĩ ciothe geragiai gũtugana inyuĩ-ene, na mũtugage andũ arĩa angĩ othe.
Make sure none of you pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to one another, and to everyone.
16 Kenagai hĩndĩ ciothe;
Always be full of joy,
17 hooyagai mũtegũtigithĩria;
never stop praying,
18 cookagĩriai Ngai ngaatho maũndũ-inĩ mothe, nĩgũkorwo ũguo nĩguo Ngai endaga harĩ inyuĩ thĩinĩ wa Kristũ Jesũ.
be thankful in every situation—because this is what God in Christ Jesus wants you to do.
19 Mũtikanahorie mwaki wa Roho;
Don't hold the Spirit back,
20 mũtikanaire ũhoro ũrĩa ũrathagwo.
don't look down on prophecy,
21 Roranagiai maũndũ mothe. Rũmagiai maũndũ marĩa mega.
make sure to check everything. Hold onto whatever is good;
22 Theemagai ũndũ o wothe mũũru.
keep away from every kind of evil.
23 Ngai we mwene, o we Ngai wa thayũ, aromũtheria o kũna. Namo maroho manyu, na ngoro cianyu, o na mĩĩrĩ yanyu, iroikaragio itarĩ na ũcuuke hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Mwathani witũ Jesũ Kristũ agaacooka.
May the God of peace himself make you completely holy, and may your whole being—body, mind and spirit—be kept blameless for when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
24 Ũrĩa ũmwĩtaga inyuĩ nĩ mwĩhokeku, na nĩakahingia ũhoro ũcio.
The one who calls you is trustworthy, and he will do this.
25 Ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ, tũhooyagĩrei.
Brothers and sisters, pray for us.
26 Geithiai ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ othe na ngeithi theru cia kĩmumunyano.
Greet all the believers there affectionately.
27 Nĩndamwatha ndĩ mbere ya Mwathani atĩ marũa maya mathomerwo ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ othe.
I'm requiring you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the believers.
28 Wega wa Mwathani witũ Jesũ Kristũ ũrogĩa na inyuĩ.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
