1 Nake mwana ũcio ti Samũeli aatungataga mbere ya Jehova arĩ harĩ Eli. Matukũ-inĩ macio kiugo kĩa Jehova gĩtiaiguagwo kaingĩ, na gũtionekaga cioneki kaingĩ.
The boy Samuel served before the Lord under Eli's supervision. At that time messages from the Lord were rare—visions were not common.
2 Ũtukũ ũmwe Eli, ũrĩa maitho make maambĩrĩirie kwaga hinya akaaga kuona wega, aakomete o harĩa aamenyerete.
One evening, Eli had gone to bed in his room. His eyes were now so weak that he couldn't see.
3 Tawa wa Ngai ndwahorete, nake Samũeli aakomete kũu thĩinĩ wa hekarũ ya Jehova, harĩa ithandũkũ rĩa Ngai rĩarĩ.
The lamp of God hadn't yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Lord's Temple where the Ark of God was.
4 Hĩndĩ ĩyo Jehova agĩĩta Samũeli. Samũeli agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ũyũ haha.”
Then the Lord called, “Samuel!” He answered, “I'm here.”
5 Nake agĩtengʼera kũrĩ Eli, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩ wanjĩta; niĩ ũyũ haha.” No Eli akiuga atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ndiĩtanĩte; cooka ũgakome.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Samũeli agĩthiĩ agĩkoma.
He ran to Eli, and said, “I'm here—you called me.” “I didn't call you,” Eli replied. “Go back to bed.” So Samuel went back to bed.
6 Jehova agĩĩtana rĩngĩ, “Samũeli!” Nake Samũeli agĩũkĩra, agĩthiĩ kũrĩ Eli, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩ wanjĩta; niĩ ũyũ haha.” Eli akiuga atĩrĩ, “Mũrũ wakwa, niĩ ndiĩtanĩte; cooka ũgakome.”
Then the Lord called again, “Samuel!” Samuel got up, went to Eli and said, “I'm here—you called me.” “I didn't call you, my son,” Eli replied. “Go back to bed.”
7 Hĩndĩ ĩyo Samũeli ndaakoretwo amenyete Jehova, kana akaguũrĩrio kiugo kĩa Jehova.
(Samuel hadn't yet come to know the Lord and had not received any message from him.)
8 Jehova nĩetire Samũeli riita rĩa gatatũ, nake Samũeli agĩũkĩra agĩthiĩ kũrĩ Eli, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩ wanjĩta; niĩ ũyũ haha.” Nake Eli akĩmenya atĩ nĩ Jehova wetaga mwana ũcio.
The Lord called again for the third time, “Samuel!” He got up went to Eli and said, “I'm here—you called me.” Then Eli realized that it was the Lord calling the boy.
9 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Eli akĩĩra Samũeli atĩrĩ, “Thiĩ ũgakome, na wona aagwĩta uuge atĩrĩ, ‘Jehova, aria, nĩ ũndũ ndungata yaku nĩĩthikĩrĩirie.’” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Samũeli agĩthiĩ, na agĩkoma harĩa aakomaga.
Eli told Samuel, “Go back to bed, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, because your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back to his bed.
10 Nake Jehova agĩũka akĩrũgama hau, agĩĩtana o ta mahinda macio mangĩ atĩrĩ, “Samũeli! Samũeli!” Nake Samũeli akiuga atĩrĩ, “Aria, nĩ ũndũ ndungata yaku nĩĩthikĩrĩirie.”
The Lord came and stood there, calling just as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” Samuel answered, “Speak, because your servant is listening.”
11 Nake Jehova akĩĩra Samũeli atĩrĩ, “Rora, niĩ ndĩ hakuhĩ gwĩka ũndũ thĩinĩ wa Isiraeli ũrĩa ũgaatũma matũ ma mũndũ o wothe ũrĩa ũkaũigua mararake.
The Lord told Samuel: “Pay attention, because I'm going to do something in Israel that will surprise everyone who hears it.
12 Hĩndĩ ĩyo maũndũ marĩa mothe ndoigire ma gũũkĩrĩra Eli na nyũmba yake nĩngamahingia kuuma kĩambĩrĩria nginya mũthia.
That's when I will carry out against Eli and his family everything I have said, from beginning to end.
13 Nĩgũkorwo nĩndamwĩrire nĩngatuĩra nyũmba yake ciira nginya tene nĩ ũndũ wa mehia marĩa we oĩ ũhoro wamo; ariũ ake nĩmetuire andũ a kũmeneka, nake akĩremwo nĩ kũmakaania.
I told him that I will judge his family forever because of the sins he knows about, because his sons blasphemed God and he did not try and stop them.
14 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio nĩndehĩtire igũrũ rĩa nyũmba ya Eli ngiuga atĩrĩ, ‘Waganu wa nyũmba ya Eli ndũrĩ hĩndĩ ũkaahoroherio na igongona kana iruta.’”
That's why I swore to Eli and his family, ‘The guilt of Eli and his descendants will never be removed by sacrifice or offering.’”
15 Samũeli agĩkoma o nginya rũciinĩ, na okĩra akĩhingũra mĩrango ya nyũmba ya Jehova. Nĩetigagĩra kwĩra Eli ũhoro wa kĩoneki kĩu,
Samuel remained in bed until the morning. Then he got up and opened the doors of the Lord's Temple as usual. He was afraid to tell Eli about the vision.
16 no Eli akĩmwĩta, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Samũeli, mũrũ wakwa.” Nake Samũeli agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ũyũ haha.”
But Eli called him and said, “Samuel, my son.” “I'm here,” Samuel answered.
17 Eli akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ ũndũ ũrĩkũ ũcio Jehova arakwĩrire? Ndũkae kũũhitha ũndũ ũcio. Ngai arogwĩka ũndũ mũũru makĩria, ũngĩĩhitha ũndũ o na ũmwe ũrĩa arakwĩrire.”
“What did he tell you?” Eli asked. “Don't hide it from me. May God punish you very severely if you hide anything he told you from me!”
18 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Samũeli akĩmwĩra maũndũ mothe, na ndaamũhithire ũndũ o na ũmwe. Eli agĩcooka akiuga atĩrĩ, “Ũcio nĩ Jehova; nĩeke ũndũ ũrĩa ekuona wagĩrĩire maitho-inĩ make.”
So Samuel told him everything and didn't hide anything from him. “It's the Lord,” Eli replied. “May he do what he thinks is good.”
19 Jehova nĩakoragwo hamwe na Samũeli o ũrĩa aakũraga, na ndaarekire kiugo o na kĩmwe gĩake kĩũrĩre thĩ.
Samuel continued to grow up. The Lord was with him and made sure all he said was trustworthy.
20 Nakuo Isiraeli guothe kuuma Dani nginya Birishiba magĩkũũrana atĩ Samũeli aarĩ mũthuure atuĩke mũnabii wa Jehova.
Everyone in the whole of Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was a trustworthy prophet of the Lord.
21 Nake Jehova agĩthiĩ na mbere kuonekana kũu Shilo, na kũu nĩkuo eguũrĩirie kũrĩ Samũeli na ũndũ wa kiugo gĩake.
The Lord went on appearing at Shiloh, because there he revealed himself to Samuel and delivered his messages,
