When Saul had returned from following the Philistines, he was told, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi.”
2 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Saũlũ akĩoya andũ ngiri ithatũ arĩa athuure kuuma Isiraeli guothe magĩthiĩ gũcaria Daudi na andũ ake gũkuhĩ na ndwaro cia mahiga kũrĩa gũtũũragwo nĩ Mbũri cia Werũ.
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats.
3 Nake agĩkinya ciugũ-inĩ cia ngʼondu iria ciarĩ njĩra-inĩ; naho nĩ haarĩ na ngurunga, nake Saũlũ agĩtoonya thĩinĩ ageteithie. Daudi na andũ ake maarĩ kũu thĩinĩ mũno, ngurunga-inĩ.
He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were staying in the innermost parts of the cave.
4 Nao andũ a Daudi makĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ũyũ nĩguo mũthenya ũrĩa Jehova aaririe ũhoro waguo, agĩkwĩra atĩrĩ, ‘Nĩnganeana thũ yaku moko-inĩ maku ũmĩĩke ũrĩa ũkwenda.’” Nake Daudi agĩkuruma atekuonwo, agĩthiĩ agĩtinia gĩcũrĩ kĩa nguo ya Saũlũ.
David’s men said to him, “Behold, the day of which the LORD said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.
5 Thuutha-inĩ, Daudi akĩigua ngoro ĩkĩmũciirithia nĩ ũndũ wa gũtinia gĩcũrĩ kĩa nguo ya Saũlũ.
Afterward, David’s heart struck him because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.
6 Akĩĩra andũ ake atĩrĩ, “Jehova arongiria njĩke ũndũ ta ũcio kũrĩ mwathi wakwa, ũcio mũitĩrĩrie maguta wa Jehova, kana ndĩmwĩke ũũru na guoko gwakwa; nĩ ũndũ nĩwe mũitĩrĩrie maguta wa Jehova.”
He said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the LORD’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is the LORD’s anointed.”
7 Aarĩkia kwaria ciugo icio, Daudi agĩkaania andũ ake, na ndaamarekire mookĩrĩre Saũlũ. Nake Saũlũ akiuma ngurunga-inĩ, na agĩĩthiĩra.
So David checked his men with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
8 Ningĩ Daudi akiuma ngurunga-inĩ ĩyo, akĩanĩrĩra agĩĩta Saũlũ, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Wee mwathi wakwa, mũthamaki!” Rĩrĩa Saũlũ eehũgũrire, Daudi akĩinamĩrĩra, agĩturumithia ũthiũ thĩ.
David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave and cried after Saul, saying, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and showed respect.
9 Akĩĩra Saũlũ atĩrĩ, “Nĩ kĩĩ gĩtũmaga ũthikĩrĩrie andũ rĩrĩa mekuuga atĩrĩ, ‘Daudi nĩeciiragĩria gũgwĩka ũũru’?
David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to men’s words, saying, ‘Behold, David seeks to harm you’?
10 Ũmũthĩ nĩweyonera na maitho maku ũrĩa Jehova egũkũneanĩte moko-inĩ makwa kũu ngurunga-inĩ. Kũrĩ andũ amwe maniingĩrĩirie ngũũrage, no ndakũhonokia; ndoiga atĩrĩ, ‘Ndikuoya guoko gwaka njĩke mwathi wakwa ũũru, nĩ ũndũ nĩwe mũitĩrĩrie maguta wa Jehova.’
Behold, today your eyes have seen how the LORD had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you. I said, ‘I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for he is the LORD’s anointed.’
11 Baba, ta kĩone, rora gĩcunjĩ gĩkĩ kĩa nguo yaku, gĩkĩ kĩrĩ guoko-inĩ gwakwa! Ndinirie gĩcunjĩ kĩa nguo yaku, no ndinakũũraga. Rĩu menya na ũkũũrane atĩ niĩ ndirĩ na ihĩtia rĩa gwĩka ũũru kana rĩa ũremi. Niĩ ndikũhĩtĩirie, no wee nĩũranjaria ũnjũrage.
Moreover, my father, behold, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand. I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.
12 Jehova arotũtuithania ciira niĩ nawe. Na Jehova arondĩhĩria maũru marĩa wee ũnjĩkĩte, no guoko gwakwa gũtigakũhutia.
May the LORD judge between me and you, and may the LORD avenge me of you; but my hand will not be on you.
13 O ta ũrĩa kũrĩ thimo yugaga atĩrĩ, ‘Waganu uumaga o harĩ arĩa aaganu,’ nĩ ũndũ ũcio guoko gwakwa gũtigakũhutia.
As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness;’ but my hand will not be on you.
14 “Mũthamaki wa Isiraeli oimĩte gwake ookĩrĩre ũ? Nũũ ũingatithĩtie? Nĩ ngui nguũ? Kana nĩ thuya?
Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?
15 Jehova arotũtuithania na atue ciira gatagatĩ gaitũ. Aroeciiria ũhoro wakwa na aũrũgamie; arondũĩrĩra na aahonokie kuuma guoko-inĩ gwaku.”
May the LORD therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”
16 Rĩrĩa Daudi aarĩkirie kuuga ũguo-rĩ, Saũlũ akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Ũcio nĩ mũgambo waku, Daudi mũrũ wakwa?” Nake akĩrĩra aanĩrĩire.
It came to pass, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is that your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice and wept.
17 Akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Wee ũrĩ mũthingu kũngĩra. Nĩũnjĩkĩte wega, no niĩ ngagwĩka ũũru.
He said to David, “You are more righteous than I; for you have done good to me, whereas I have done evil to you.
18 Nĩwarĩĩkia o rĩu kũnjĩĩra ũndũ mwega ũnjĩkĩte; Jehova nĩekũũneanĩte moko-inĩ maku, no wee ndũnanjũraga.
You have declared today how you have dealt well with me, because when the LORD had delivered me up into your hand, you did not kill me.
19 Rĩrĩa mũndũ ona thũ yake-rĩ, nĩarekaga ĩthiĩ atamĩkĩte ũũru? Jehova arogwĩka maũndũ mega nĩ ũndũ wa ũrĩa ũnjĩkĩte ũmũthĩ.
For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may the LORD reward you good for that which you have done to me today.
20 Nĩnjũũĩ atĩ ti-itherũ nĩũgatuĩka mũthamaki, na atĩ ũthamaki wa Isiraeli nĩũkehaanda moko-inĩ maku.
Now, behold, I know that you will surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.
21 Rĩu wĩhĩte harĩ niĩ na rĩĩtwa rĩa Jehova atĩ ndũkaniina njiaro ciakwa kana rĩĩtwa rĩakwa rĩthire kuuma nyũmba-inĩ ya baba.”
Swear now therefore to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”
22 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Daudi akĩĩhĩta harĩ Saũlũ. Nake Saũlũ agĩcooka mũciĩ, no Daudi na andũ ake makĩambata magĩthiĩ kĩĩhitho-inĩ.
David swore to Saul. Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.
