< 1 Akorinitho 7 >

1 Na rĩrĩ, ha ũhoro wa maũndũ marĩa mwanyandĩkĩire marũa nĩ ũndũ wamo, ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ: Nĩ wega mũndũ mũrũme kwaga kũhikania.
And concerning the things of which ye wrote to me: good [it is] for a man not to touch a woman,
and because of the whoredom let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her proper husband;
3 Mũthuuri nĩagĩrĩirwo nĩ kũhingagĩria mũtumia wake bata wake wa kĩhiko, o nake mũtumia ahingagĩrie mũthuuriwe bata wake.
to the wife let the husband the due benevolence render, and in like manner also the wife to the husband;
4 Mũtumia ndangĩĩathĩra mwĩrĩ wake mwene, tondũ nĩ wake na mũthuuriwe. Ũguo no taguo mũthuuri atangĩĩathĩra mwĩrĩ wake mwene, tondũ nĩ wake na mũtumia wake.
the wife over her own body hath not authority, but the husband; and, in like manner also, the husband over his own body hath not authority, but the wife.
5 Tigagai kũimana, o tiga rĩrĩa mũngĩkorwo mũiguanĩire, naguo gũkorwo nĩ kwa ihinda, nĩgeetha mũgĩĩage na ihinda rĩa kũhooya. Thuutha ũcio no mũcooke hamwe rĩngĩ, nĩguo Shaitani ndakamũgerie tondũ wanyu kũremwo kwĩgirĩrĩria.
Defraud not one another, except by consent for a time, that ye may be free for fasting and prayer, and again may come together, that the Adversary may not tempt you because of your incontinence;
6 Ũhoro ũcio ndawaaria taarĩ rũũtha ngũheana, no ti gwathana ngwathana.
and this I say by way of concurrence — not of command,
7 No nyende andũ othe mahaane ta ũrĩa niĩ ndariĩ. No o mũndũ aheetwo kĩheo gĩake mwene kuuma kũrĩ Ngai; mũndũ ũmwe aheetwo kĩheo gĩkĩ, na ũrĩa ũngĩ akaheo kĩrĩa kĩngĩ.
for I wish all men to be even as I myself [am]; but each his own gift hath of God, one indeed thus, and one thus.
8 Na rĩrĩ, nĩ ũndũ wa andũ arĩa matahikanĩtie na atumia a ndigwa, nguuga ũũ: Nĩ wega maikare o ũguo matahikanĩtie, o ta ũrĩa niĩ ndariĩ.
And I say to the unmarried and to the widows: it is good for them if they may remain even as I [am];
9 No angĩkorwo matingĩhota kwĩgirĩrĩria-rĩ, nĩmahike na mahikanie, tondũ nĩ kaba kũhikania gũkĩra gũikara makĩhĩĩahĩaga.
and if they have not continence — let them marry, for it is better to marry than to burn;
10 Kũrĩ andũ arĩa mahikĩte na makahikania-rĩ, ngwathana ũũ, no ti niĩ, nĩ Mwathani ũgwathana: Mũtumia ndakanatigane na mũthuuriwe.
and to the married I announce — not I, but the Lord — let not a wife separate from a husband:
11 No aangĩka ũguo-rĩ, nĩagĩikare atarĩ mũhiku, kana akorwo ti ũguo, acookerere mũthuuriwe. Ningĩ mũthuuri ndakanaingate mũtumia wake.
but and if she may separate, let her remain unmarried, or to the husband let her be reconciled, and let not a husband send away a wife.
12 Nĩ ũndũ wa acio angĩ nguuga ũũ, no nĩ niĩ ndĩroiga, ti Mwathani: Angĩkorwo mũrũ wa Ithe witũ arĩ na mũtumia ũtetĩkĩtie, na mũtumia ũcio etĩkĩre matũũranie-rĩ, nĩatige kũmũingata.
And to the rest I speak — not the Lord — if any brother hath a wife unbelieving, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not send her away;
13 Nake mũtumia angĩkorwo arĩ na mũthuuri ũtetĩkĩtie, na mũthuuri ũcio etĩkĩre matũũranie-rĩ, nĩatige kũmũingata.
and a woman who hath a husband unbelieving, and he is pleased to dwell with her, let her not send him away;
14 Nĩgũkorwo mũthuuri ũrĩa ũtetĩkĩtie nĩatheretio nĩ ũndũ wa mũtumia wake, nake mũtumia ũrĩa ũtarĩ mwĩtĩkia nĩatheretio nĩ ũndũ wa mũthuuri wake mwĩtĩkia. Kũngĩaga gũtuĩka ũguo-rĩ, ciana cianyu no ituĩke ti theru, no ũrĩa kũrĩ rĩu nĩ atĩ nĩ theru.
for the unbelieving husband hath been sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife hath been sanctified in the husband; otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.
15 No rĩrĩ, mũndũ ũcio ũtetĩkĩtie angĩthiĩ-rĩ, nĩarekwo athiĩ. Nĩgũkorwo mũndũ mũrũme, kana mũndũ-wa-nja ũrĩa wĩtĩkĩtie ti muohe nĩ ũhoro ta ũcio; Ngai atwĩtĩte tũtũũranagie na thayũ.
And, if the unbelieving doth separate himself — let him separate himself: the brother or the sister is not under servitude in such [cases], and in peace hath God called us;
16 Wee mũtumia-rĩ, ũũĩ atĩa kana nĩwe ũkaahonokia mũthuuri waku? O na wee mũthuuri-rĩ, ũũĩ atĩa kana nĩwe ũkaahonokia mũtumia waku?
for what, hast thou known, O wife, whether the husband thou shalt save? or what, hast thou known, O husband, whether the wife thou shalt save?
17 No rĩrĩ, mũndũ o mũndũ nĩaikare mũtũũrĩre ũrĩa Mwathani aamũgaĩire, o ũrĩa Ngai aamwĩtĩire. Ũyũ nĩguo watho ũrĩa ngwatha makanitha mothe.
if not, as God did distribute to each, as the Lord hath called each — so let him walk; and thus in all the assemblies do I direct:
18 Mũndũ angĩkorwo eetirwo arĩ mũruu-rĩ, nĩatige gũikara ta atarĩ mũruu. Mũndũ ũrĩa ũtaarĩ mũruu rĩrĩa eetirwo nĩatige kũrua.
being circumcised — was any one called? let him not become uncircumcised; in uncircumcision was any one called? let him not be circumcised;
19 Kũrua gũtirĩ bata; o na kwaga kũrua gũtirĩ bata. Ũndũ ũrĩa ũrĩ bata nĩ kũmenyerera maathani ma Ngai.
the circumcision is nothing, and the uncircumcision is nothing — but a keeping of the commands of God.
20 O mũndũ nĩaikarage o ũrĩa aatariĩ rĩrĩa Ngai aamwĩtire.
Each in the calling in which he was called — in this let him remain;
21 Wee warĩ ngombo rĩrĩa wetirwo? Ũndũ ũcio ndũgagũtange, no korwo wahota kuona njĩra ya kuuma ũkombo-inĩ-rĩ, gerera yo.
a servant — wast thou called? be not anxious; but if also thou art able to become free — use [it] rather;
22 Nĩgũkorwo mũndũ ũrĩa warĩ ngombo rĩrĩa Mwathani aamwĩtire-rĩ, ũcio nĩ mũndũ wa Mwathani ũtarĩ ngombo; ningĩ no taguo, ũrĩa warĩ mũndũ muohore rĩrĩa Mwathani aamwĩtire-rĩ, ũcio nĩ ngombo ya Kristũ.
for he who [is] in the Lord — having been called a servant — is the Lord's freedman: in like manner also he the freeman, having been called, is servant of Christ:
23 Inyuĩ mwagũrirwo goro; mũtigatuĩke ngombo cia andũ.
with a price ye were bought, become not servants of men;
24 Ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ, o ũndũ ũrĩa mũndũ eehokeirwo nĩ Ngai-rĩ, nĩaikarage o ũguo ũndũ ũcio Ngai aamwĩtĩire.
each, in that in which he was called, brethren, in this let him remain with God.
25 Rĩu-rĩ, ũhoro wĩgiĩ airĩtu nĩ ũyũ: Ndirĩ na watho uumĩte kũrĩ Mwathani, no nĩngũheana itua rĩakwa ta mũndũ mwĩhokeku nĩ ũndũ wa kũiguĩrwo tha nĩ Mwathani.
And concerning the virgins, a command of the Lord I have not; and I give judgment as having obtained kindness from the Lord to be faithful:
26 Nĩ ũndũ wa mathĩĩna ma mahinda maya-rĩ, nguona arĩ wega mũikarage o ũrĩa mũndũ atariĩ.
I suppose, therefore, this to be good because of the present necessity, that [it is] good for a man that the matter be thus: —
27 Wee nĩũhikanĩtie? Ndũkaingate mũtumia waku. Wee nawe hihi ndũhikanĩtie? Tiga kũhikania.
Hast thou been bound to a wife? seek not to be loosed; hast thou been loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
28 No ũngĩhikania-rĩ, wee ndwĩhĩtie; o na mũirĩtu angĩhika-rĩ, o nake ndehĩtie. No andũ arĩa marahika kana makahikania-rĩ, nĩmarĩonaga mathĩĩna maingĩ mũtũũrĩre-inĩ ũyũ, na nĩmo ndĩrenda kũmũrigĩrĩria.
But and if thou mayest marry, thou didst not sin; and if the virgin may marry, she did not sin; and such shall have tribulation in the flesh: and I spare you.
29 Ũndũ ũrĩa ndĩrenda kuuga, ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ, nĩ atĩ ihinda nĩ inini. Kuuma rĩu andũ arĩa marĩ na atumia nĩ kwagĩrĩire maikarage ta matarĩ nao;
And this I say, brethren, the time henceforth is having been shortened — that both those having wives may be as not having;
30 arĩa maracakaya nĩmaikarage ta mataracakaya; nao arĩa makenete nĩmaikarage ta matakenete; o na arĩa mekũgũra indo, nĩmaikarage ta matarĩ kĩndũ marĩ.
and those weeping, as not weeping; and those rejoicing, as not rejoicing; and those buying, as not possessing;
31 nao arĩa mahũthagĩra indo cia thĩ ĩno, nĩmaikarage ta matohanĩtio nacio. Nĩgũkorwo ũrĩa thĩ ĩno ĩhaana rĩu-rĩ, nĩgũthira ĩrathira.
and those using this world, as not using [it] up; for passing away is the fashion of this world.
And I wish you to be without anxiety; the unmarried is anxious for the things of the Lord, how he shall please the Lord;
33 No mũndũ ũrĩa ũhikanĩtie etangaga na maũndũ ma gũkũ thĩ, na eciiragia o ũrĩa angĩkenia mũtumia wake,
and the married is anxious for the things of the world, how he shall please the wife.
The wife and the virgin have been distinguished: the unmarried is anxious for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit, and the married is anxious for the things of the world, how she shall please the husband.
35 Ndĩramwarĩria maũndũ maya nĩgeetha mũgunĩke, ti atĩ nĩguo ndĩmũrigĩrĩrie, no nĩgeetha mũikarage na mĩthiĩre ĩrĩa yagĩrĩire, mwĩheanĩte biũ harĩ Mwathani mũtekũguucĩrĩrio nĩ maũndũ mangĩ.
And this for your own profit I say: not that I may cast a noose upon you, but for the seemliness and devotedness to the Lord, undistractedly,
36 Mũndũ o wothe angĩona atĩ nĩarahĩtĩria mũirĩtu ũrĩa orĩtie, nake mũirĩtu ũcio akorwo matukũ make ma ũirĩtu wake nĩmarahĩtũka-rĩ, mũndũ ũcio angĩigua nĩagĩrĩirwo nĩ kũhikania-rĩ, nĩeke o ũguo ekwenda. Ti kwĩhia ekwĩhia. Nĩmagĩrĩirwo mahikanie.
and if any one doth think [it] to be unseemly to his virgin, if she may be beyond the bloom of age, and it ought so to be, what he willeth let him do; he doth not sin — let him marry.
37 No rĩrĩ, ũrĩa ũtuĩte na ngoro yake atekũringĩrĩrio, no nĩwe mwene wĩyendeire, na agatua itua atĩ ndekũhikia mũirĩtu ũcio-rĩ, mũndũ ũcio o nake nĩekĩte ũrĩa kwagĩrĩire.
And he who hath stood stedfast in the heart — not having necessity — and hath authority over his own will, and this he hath determined in his heart — to keep his own virgin — doth well;
38 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio-rĩ, mũndũ ũrĩa ũhikagia mũirĩtu ũrĩa orĩtie nĩekaga ũrĩa kwagĩrĩire, no ũrĩa ũngĩaga kũmũhikia nĩekaga wega makĩria.
so that both he who is giving in marriage doth well, and he who is not giving in marriage doth better.
39 Mũtumia nĩohanĩtio na mũthuuriwe rĩrĩa rĩothe mũthuuriwe arĩ muoyo. No mũthuuriwe angĩkua, nĩmuohore na no ahikĩre mũndũ o ũrĩa angĩenda, no mũndũ ũcio no nginya akorwo nĩetĩkĩtie Mwathani.
A wife hath been bound by law as long time as her husband may live, and if her husband may sleep, she is free to be married to whom she will — only in the Lord;
40 No itua rĩakwa nĩ atĩrĩ, mũtumia ũcio angĩaga kũhika rĩngĩ, no akorwo arĩ na gĩkeno makĩria. Na ngwĩciiria atĩ niĩ o na niĩ ndĩ na Roho wa Ngai.
and she is happier if she may so remain — according to my judgment; and I think I also have the Spirit of God.
