1 Njiaro cia Juda ciarĩ: Perezu, na Hezironi, na Karimi, na Huru, na Shobali.

the sons of Judah, Perez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.

2 Reaia mũrũ wa Shobali nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Jahathu, nake Jahathu nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Ahumai na Lahadi. Icio nĩcio ciarĩ mbarĩ cia Azorathi.

And, Reaiah son of Shobal, begat Jahath, and, Jahath, begat Ahumai, and Lahad. These, are the families of the Zorathites.

3 Ariũ a Etamu maarĩ: Jezireeli, na Ishima, na Idibasha. Mwarĩ wa nyina wao eetagwo Hazeleliponi.

And, these, were the sons of Etam, Jezreel and Ishma, and Idbash, —and, the name of their sister, was Hazzelelponi;

4 Penueli nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Gedori, nake Ezeri nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Husha. Ici nĩcio ciarĩ njiaro cia Huru ũrĩa irigithathi rĩa Efiratha, na ithe wa Bethilehemu.

and Penuel the father of Gedor, and Ezer, the father of Hushah. These, are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.

5 Ashuri ithe wa Tekoa aarĩ na atumia eerĩ, nĩo Hela na Naara.

And, Ashhur the father of Tekoa, had two wives, —Helah, and Naarah.

6 Naara akĩmũciarĩra Ahuzamu, na Heferi, na Temeni, na Haahashatari. Icio nĩcio ciarĩ njiaro cia Naara.

And Naarah bare him Ahuzzam and Hepher, and Temeni, and Haahashtari. These, were the sons of Naarah.

7 Ariũ a Hela maarĩ: Zerethi, na Zoharu, na Ethinani,

And, the sons of Helah, were Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan.

8 na Kozu, ũrĩa warĩ ithe wa Anubu, na Hazobeba, na wa mĩhĩrĩga ya Ahariheli mũrũ wa Harumu.

And, Koz, begat Anub, and Zobebah, —and the families of Aharhel, the son of Harum.

9 Jabezu aarĩ mũtĩĩku mũno gũkĩra ariũ a nyina. Nyina nĩwe wamũtuire Jabezu, tondũ oigire atĩrĩ, “Ndaamũciarire na ruo.”

Now it came to pass that Jabez was more honourable than his brethren, —but, his mother, had called his name Jabez, ["he causes pain"] saying, Because I bare him with pain.

10 Nake Jabezu agĩkaĩra Ngai wa Isiraeli, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Naarĩ korwo wandathima na ũnjaramĩrie mĩhaka ya bũrũri wakwa! Reke guoko gwaku gũkorwo hamwe na niĩ, na ũngitĩre harĩ ũũru nĩguo ndikanakorwo na ruo.” Nake Ngai akĩigua ihooya rĩake.

So then Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldst, indeed bless, me, and enlarge my boundary, and that thy hand might be with me, —and that thou wouldst work [to deliver me] from evil, that it be not my pain. And God brought about that which he asked.

11 Kelubu, mũrũ wa nyina na Shuha, nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Mehiru, ũrĩa warĩ ithe wa Eshitoni.

And, Chelub the brother of Shuhah, begat Mehir, the same, was the father of Eshton.

12 Eshitoni nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Bethi-Rafa, na Pasea, na Tehina ũrĩa warĩ ithe wa Iri-Nahashu. Acio nĩo maarĩ andũ a Reka.

And, Eshton, begat Beth-rapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of Ir-nahash. These, are the men of Recah.

13 Ariũ a Kenazu maarĩ: Othinieli na Seraia. Ariũ a Othinieli maarĩ: Hathathu, na Meonothai.

And, the sons of Kenaz, were Othniel, and Seraiah, —and, the sons of Othniel, Hathath.

14 Meonothai nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Ofara. Seraia nĩwe warĩ ithe wa Joabu ũrĩa ithe wa andũ a Ge-Harashimu. Gwetagwo ũguo nĩ ũndũ andũ akuo maarĩ mabundi.

And, Meonothai, begat Ophrah, —and, Seraiah, begat Joab, the father of Ge-harashim, for they were, craftsmen.

15 Ariũ a Kalebu, mũrũ wa Jefune, maarĩ: Iru, na Ela, na Naamu. Mũriũ wa Ela eetagwo: Kenazu.

And, the sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh, were Iru, Elah, and Naam, —and the sons of Elah and Kenaz.

16 Ariũ a Jehaleleli maarĩ: Zifu, na Zifa, na Tiria, na Asareli.

And, the sons of Jehallelel, Ziph and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.

17 Ariũ a Ezara maarĩ: Jetheru, na Meredi, na Eferi, na Jaloni. Mũtumia ũmwe wa Meredi nĩwe waciarire Miriamu, na Shamai, na Ishiba ũrĩa warĩ ithe wa Eshitemoa.

And, the sons of Ezrah, Jether and Mered, and Epher and Jalon. And, these, are the sons of Bithia, daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took, —and she conceived and bare Miriam and Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.

18 (Mũtumia wake wa kuuma Judea agĩciara Jeredi ũrĩa ithe wa Gedori, na Heberi ithe wa Soko, na Jekuthieli ithe wa Zanoa.) Acio nĩo maarĩ ciana cia Bithia mwarĩ wa Firaũni ũrĩa wahikĩtio nĩ Meredi.

And, his wife, the Jewess, bare Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah.

19 Ariũ a mũtumia wa Hodia (mwarĩ wa nyina na Nahamu) maarĩ: Ithe wa Keila ũrĩa Mũgarimi, na Eshitemoa ũrĩa Mũmaakathi.

And, the sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the father of Keilah, the Garmite, —and Eshtemoa, the Maacathite.

20 Ariũ a Shimoni maarĩ: Amunoni, na Rina, na Beni-Hanani, na Tiloni. Njiaro cia Ishi nĩ: Zohethu na Beni-Zohethu.

And, the sons of Shimon, Amnon, and Rinnah, Ben-hanan and Tilon. And, the sons of Ishi, Zoheth, and Ben-zoheth.

21 Nao ariũ a Shela mũrũ wa Juda maarĩ: Eri ithe wa Leka, na Laada ithe wa Maresha, na mbarĩ cia arĩa maathondekaga gatani ĩrĩa njega kũu Bethi-Ashibea,

the sons of Shelah, the son of Judah, Er, the father of Lecah, and Laadah, the father of Mareshah, —and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea;

22 na Jokimu, na andũ a Kozeba, na Joashu na Sarafi arĩa maathanaga bũrũri wa Moabi, na Jashubi-Lehemu. (Ũhoro ũyũ ũrutĩtwo maandĩko-inĩ ma tene mũno.)

and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph who ruled for Moab, and Jashubi-lehem, —but, the records, are ancient.

23 Acio nĩo moombaga indo cia rĩũmba, nao maatũũraga Netaimu na Gedera; maikaraga kũu, marutagĩre mũthamaki wĩra.

They, were the potters and the inhabitants of Netaim, and Gederah, —with the king in his work, dwelt they there.

24 Njiaro cia Simeoni nĩ: Nemueli, na Jamini, na Jaribu, na Zera, na Shauli;

The sons of Simeon, Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul:

25 Shalumu aarĩ mũriũ wa Shauli, nake Mibisamu aarĩ mũriũ wa Shalumu, nake Mishima aarĩ mũriũ wa Mibisamu.

Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.

26 Njiaro cia Mishima ciarĩ: Mũriũ Hamueli, na Zakuri mũriũ wa Hamueli, na Shimei mũriũ wa Zakuri.

And, the sons of Mishma, Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son.

27 Shimei aarĩ na ariũ ikũmi na atandatũ na airĩtu atandatũ, no ariũ a nyina matiarĩ na ciana nyingĩ; nĩ ũndũ ũcio mbarĩ yao ndĩongererekire ta ya andũ a Juda.

And, Shimei, had sixteen sons, and six daughters, but, his brethren, had not many children, —nor did, any of their family, multiply so much as the sons of Judah.

28 Nao maatũũraga Birishiba, na Molada, na Hazari-Shuali,

And they dwelt in Beer-sheba, and Moladah, and Hazar-shual;

29 na Biliha, na Ezemu, na Toladi,

and in Bilhah, and in Ezem, and in Tolad;

30 na Bethueli, na Horoma, na Zikilagi,

and in Bethuel, and in Hormah, and in Ziklag;

31 na Bethi-Marikabothu, na Hazari-Susimu, na Bethi-Biri, na Shaaraimu. Macio nĩmo maarĩ matũũra mao nginya rĩrĩa Daudi aathamakaga.

and in Beth-marcaboth, and in Hazar-susim, and in Beth-biri, and in Shaaraim. These, were their cities unto the reign of David.

And, their villages, were Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, —five cities;

33 na tũtũũra tũnini tũrĩa twarigiicĩirie matũũra macio o nginya Baalathu. Macio nĩmo maarĩ ũtũũro wao. Nao nĩmaigaga maandĩko ma njiarwa.

and all their villages that were round about these cities, as far as Baal. These, were their habitations, and they had their own genealogical register.

34 Meshobabu, na Jamuleki, na Josha mũrũ wa Amazia,

And Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah, the son of Amaziah;

35 na Joeli; na Jehu mũrũ wa Joshibia, mũrũ wa Seraia, mũrũ wa Asieli;

and Joel, —and Jehu, the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel:

36 o na Elioenai, na Jaakoba, na Jeshohaia, na Asaia, na Adieli, na Jesimieli, na Benaia;

and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah:

37 na Ziza mũrũ wa Shifi, mũrũ wa Aloni, mũrũ wa Jedaia, mũrũ wa Shimuri, mũrũ wa Shemaia.

and Ziza, son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah.

38 Andũ acio marĩĩtwa mao magwetetwo hau igũrũ nĩo maarĩ atongoria a mbarĩ ciao. Nyũmba ciao nĩciongererekire mũno,

These, introduced by their names, were leading men in their families. And, their ancestral house, brake forth exceedingly;

39 nao magĩthiĩ mĩhaka-inĩ ya Gedori mwena wa irathĩro wa gĩtuamba kĩu gũcaria ũrĩithio wa mahiũ mao.

so they went to the entering in of Gerar, unto the east of the valley, —to seek pasture for their flocks;

40 Nĩmoonire kũndũ kũnoru kũrĩ ũrĩithio mwega, bũrũri warĩ mwariĩ, ũrĩ na thayũ na ũkahoorera. Na rĩrĩ, andũ a Hamu amwe nĩo maatũũraga kuo mbere.

and they found pasture, fat and good, and, the land, was broad on both hands, and quiet, and secure, —for, of Ham, were the dwellers there aforetime.

41 Andũ arĩa marĩĩtwa mao maandĩkĩtwo mookĩte kuo matukũ-inĩ ma Hezekia mũthamaki wa Juda. Nao magĩtharĩkĩra andũ a Hamu ciikaro-inĩ cia andũ acio o na cia Ameunimu arĩa maatũũraga kuo, na makĩmaniina biũ o ta ũrĩa gũtariĩ nginya ũmũthĩ. Nao magĩtũũra ciikaro-inĩ cia andũ acio tondũ kwarĩ na ũrĩithio mwega wa mahiũ mao.

But these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the Meunim who were found there, and devoted them, until this day, and dwelt in their stead, —for there was pasture for their flocks, there.

42 Nao andũ magana matano a nyũmba ya Simeoni, matongoretio nĩ Pelatia, na Nearia, na Refaia na Uzieli, ariũ a Ishi, magĩtharĩkĩra bũrũri ũrĩa ũrĩ irĩma wa Seiru.

And, some of them, of the sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir, five hundred men, —with Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, sons of Ishi, at their head;

43 Nao makĩũraga Aamaleki arĩa meetharĩte magatigara, nao matũire kuo nginya ũmũthĩ.

and they smote the remainder that had escaped, of the Amalekites, —and dwelt there—[as they have] unto this day.
