Zephanja 2

1 Sammelt euch zusammen, sammelt euch, o Völkerschaft, die nicht erblaßt.

Bend yourselves, yea, bend ye, O nation not desired,

2 Ehe die Satzung gebiert, wie Spreu der Tag vorübergeht, ehe denn das Entbrennen des Zorns Jehovahs über euch komme, ehe der Tag des Zornes Jehovahs über euch komme.

Before the bringing forth of a statute, As chaff hath the day passed on, While yet not come in upon you doth the heat of the anger of Jehovah, While yet not come in upon you doth a day of the anger of Jehovah,

3 Suchet Jehovah, alle ihr Sanftmütigen des Landes, die ihr nach Seinem Recht handelt! Suchet Gerechtigkeit, sucht Sanftmut, ob ihr vielleicht am Tage des Zorns Jehovahs verborgen werdet.

Seek Jehovah, all ye humble of the land, Who His judgment have done, Seek ye righteousness, seek humility, It may be ye are hidden in a day of the anger of Jehovah.

4 Denn Gazah wird verlassen sein und Aschkelon verwüstet, Aschdod am hellen Mittag ausgetrieben und Ekron ausgewurzelt werden.

For Gaza is forsaken, And Ashkelon [is] for a desolation, Ashdod! at noon they do cast her forth, And Ekron is rooted up.

5 Wehe euch, die ihr den Landstrich des Meeres bewohnt, du Völkerschaft der Kereter; wider euch ist Jehovahs Wort, Kanaan, der Philister Land, Ich werde dich zerstören, daß niemand da wohnen soll.

Ho! O inhabitants of the sea-coast, Nation of the Cherethites, A word of Jehovah [is] against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines, And I have destroyed thee without an inhabitant.

6 Und es soll der Landstrich am Meere zu Wohnorten, zu Ausgrabungen der Hirten und zu Hürden des Kleinviehs werden.

And the sea-coast hath been habitations, Cottages [for] shepherds, and folds [for] a flock.

7 Und soll der Landstrich dem Überrest des Hauses Jehudah werden, sie sollen darauf weiden, am Abend in den Häusern Aschkelons sich lagern; denn Jehovah, ihr Gott, wird sie heimsuchen und zurückwenden ihre Gefangenschaft.

And the coast hath been for the remnant of the house of Judah, By them they have pleasure, In houses of Ashkelon at even they lie down, For inspect them doth Jehovah their God, And He hath turned back [to] their captivity.

8 Ich habe Moabs Schmähen gehört und die Verhöhnungen der Söhne Amons, wie sie Mein Volk geschmäht und wider ihre Grenze sich groß gemacht haben.

I have heard the reproach of Moab, And the revilings of the sons of Ammon, Wherewith they reproached My people, And magnify [themselves] against their border.

9 Darum, bei Meinem Leben, spricht Jehovah der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, wie Sodom soll Moab und wie Gomorrah Ammons Söhne werden, überlassen den Nesseln, und wo man gräbt Salz, und verwüstet ewiglich. Der Überrest von Meinem Volk soll sie berauben, und die übrigen Meiner Völkerschaft sollen sie beerben.

Therefore, I live, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Surely, Moab is as Sodom, And the sons of Ammon as Gomorrah, An overrunning of nettles and salt-pits, And a desolation — unto the age. A residue of My people do seize them, And a remnant of My nation inherit them.

10 Dies wird ihnen für ihren Stolz, daß sie schmähten und sich groß machten über das Volk Jehovahs der Heerscharen.

This [is] to them for their arrogancy, Because they have reproached, And they magnify [themselves] against the people of Jehovah of Hosts.

11 Furchtbar wird über ihnen Jehovah sein; denn alle Götter des Landes läßt Er dahinschwinden; und sie werden Ihn anbeten, jeder Mann aus seinem Orte, alle Inseln der Völkerschaften.

Fearful [is] Jehovah against them, For He made bare all gods of the land, And bow themselves to Him, each from his place, Do all islanders of the nations.

12 Auch ihr, Kuschiter; durch Mein Schwert sollen sie erschlagen werden.

Also ye, O Cushim, pierced of My sword [are] they.

13 Und Er wird Seine Hand ausrecken über Mitternacht, und Aschur zerstören, und Niniveh legt Er in Verwüstung, dürre wie die Wüste.

And He stretcheth His hand against the north, And doth destroy Asshur, And he setteth Nineveh for a desolation, A dry land like a wilderness.

14 Und in ihrer Mitte werden Herden lagern, alles wilde Tiere der Völkerschaften, so der Pelikan und der Entenadler übernachten in ihren Knäufen; im Fenster singt eine Stimme, die Öde ist auf der Schwelle, denn die Zedernbretter hat Er bloßgelegt.

And crouched in her midst have droves, Every beast of the nation, Both pelican and hedge-hog in her knobs lodge, A voice doth sing at the window, 'Destruction [is] at the threshold, For the cedar-work is exposed.'

15 Das ist die Stadt, die jauchzende, die sicher dasaß, die in ihrem Herzen sprach: Ich bin es, und keine außer mir! Wie ward sie zur Verwüstung, zum Lagerplatz dem wilden Tier! Ein jeder, der an ihr vorübergeht, zischt, er schwenkt seine Hand.

This [is] the exulting city that is dwelling confidently, That is saying in her heart, 'I [am], and beside me there is none,' How hath she been for a desolation, A crouching-place for beasts, Every one passing by her doth hiss, He doth shake his hand!
