Psalm 9

1 Dem Sangmeister auf Muth Labben. Ein Psalm Davids. Jehovah bekenne ich von ganzem Herzen, will erzählen alle Deine Wunder.

Yahweh, I will praise you with all of my inner being. I will tell [others] about all the wonderful things that you have done.

2 In Dir will ich fröhlich sein und jauchzen, Psalmen singen Deinem Namen, Du Allerhöchster.

I will sing to celebrate what you [MTY], who are much greater than all other gods, [have done].

3 Wenn meine Feinde hinter sich zurückweichen, straucheln sie und gehen zugrunde vor Dir!

When my enemies realize [that you are very powerful], they stumble, and then they are killed.

4 Denn Du tust mir Gericht und Recht, Du sitzest auf dem Throne, ein gerechter Richter.

You sat on your throne to judge people, and you have judged fairly/justly concerning me.

5 Du hast bedroht die Heiden, hast zerstört den Ungerechten. Du hast ihren Namen ausgewischt ewiglich und immerfort.

You rebuked the [people of other] nations and you have gotten rid of the wicked people; you have erased their names forever.

6 Die Feinde: zunichte sind die Verheerungen auf immerdar, und die Städte hast Du ausgerissen, ihr Andenken verging mit ihnen!

Our enemies have disappeared; you destroyed their cities, and people do not even remember them any more.

7 Jehovah aber sitzet in Ewigkeit, Er hat zum Gerichte bereitet Seinen Thron.

But Yahweh rules forever. He judges [people while he sits] on his throne to judge people,

8 Und Er richtet die Welt mit Gerechtigkeit; Recht spricht Er den Volksstämmen mit Geradheit.

and he will judge [all the people in] [SYN] the world justly; he will judge the people [of all nations] fairly [DOU].

9 Jehovah ist dem Schwachen eine Burg, eine Burg zur Zeit der Drangsal.

Yahweh will be a refuge for those who are oppressed; [yes, he will be like] a shelter for them when they have trouble.

10 Und es vertrauen auf Dich, die Deinen Namen kennen, denn Du verlässest nicht, die Dir nachfragen.

Those who know Yahweh [MTY] trust in him; he never abandons those who come to him ([for help/to worship him]).

11 Singt Psalmen dem Jehovah, Welcher wohnt zu Zion; sagt an unter den Völkern Seine Taten!

Yahweh rules from Zion [Hill]; praise him while you sing to him. Tell [the people of all] the nations the [marvelous] things that he has done.

12 Denn Er fragt nach dem Blute, Er gedenkt ihrer, vergißt nicht das Schreien der Elenden.

He does not forget [to punish] those who have murdered others; and he will not ignore people who are crying because they are suffering.

13 Sei mir gnädig, Jehovah, siehe an mein Elend wegen meiner Hasser, Der Du von des Todes Toren mich emporhebst!

Yahweh, be merciful to me! Look at the ways that my enemies have injured me. Do not allow me to die [because of these injuries].

14 Auf daß all Dein Lob ich in den Toren der Tochter Zions erzähle, und frohlocke ob Deines Heils.

I want to live in order that I can praise you at the gates of Jerusalem [MTY] and to rejoice because you rescued me.

15 Die Völkerschaften sanken in den Graben, den sie gemacht; im Netz, das sie hehlings gelegt, hat sich ihr Fuß gefangen.

[It is as though] the [wicked people of many] nations have dug a pit for me to fall into [MET], but they have fallen into that same pit. [It is as if] they spread out a net to catch me [MET], but their feet have been caught in that same net.

16 Jehovah ward kund; Er hat Recht geschafft; in Seiner Hände Werk hat der Ungerechte sich verstrickt. (Higgajon, Selah)

Because of what you have done, people know that you decide matters [fairly/justly], but [you allow] wicked people to be trapped by the same evil things that they themselves do.

17 Die Ungerechten kehren zurück zur Hölle, alle Völkerschaften, die Gottes vergessen. (Sheol h7585)

Wicked people will all [die and] be buried in their graves, and [their spirits] will go to be with all those who have (forgotten about/rejected) you. (Sheol h7585)

18 Denn nicht immerdar wird der Dürftige vergessen; noch vergeht immerfort der Elenden Hoffnung.

But you will not forget those who are needy/poor; what they confidently expect will certainly happen.

19 Mache Dich auf, Jehovah! Nicht erstarke der Mensch! Es werden die Völkerschaften gerichtet vor Deinem Angesicht!

Yahweh, arise and judge the [wicked] people of the nations; do not allow them to think that [because they are strong] they will never be punished.

20 Setze ihnen, o Jehovah, eine Unterweisung, laß die Völkerschaften wissen, daß sie Menschen sind. (Selah)

Yahweh, teach them to be terrified about you. Cause them to know that they are merely human beings.
