Psalm 80

1 Dem Sangmeister. Auf Schoschannim Eduth. Ein Psalm Asaphs. Hirt Israels, nimm zu Ohren, Der Du wie eine Herde Joseph geleitest, Der Du sitzest auf den Cheruben, strahle hervor!

“To the chief musician upon Shoshannim; an 'Eduth by Assaph; a psalm.” O Shepherd of Israel, give ear, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

2 Vor Ephraim und Benjamin und Menascheh wecke auf Deine Macht und gehe für uns zur Rettung.

Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Menasseh awaken thy might, and come to our help.

3 Gott, bringe uns zurück, lasse leuchten Dein Angesicht, und wir werden gerettet.

O God, cause us to return, and let thy countenance shine, that we may be saved.

4 Jehovah, Gott der Heerscharen, wie lange rauchst Du bei Deines Volkes Gebet?

O Lord of hosts, how long shall thy anger smoke against the prayer of thy people?

5 Du läßt uns Tränenbrot essen und tränkst uns im Übermaß mit Tränen.

Thou feedest them with the bread of tears, and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

6 Du setzest uns unseren Nachbarn zum Zank, und unsere Feinde verlachen uns.

Thou renderest us a contest unto our neighbors: and our enemies hold derision among themselves.

7 Gott der Heerscharen, bringe uns zurück und lasse leuchten Dein Angesicht, und wir werden gerettet.

O God of hosts, cause us to return, and let thy countenance shine, that we may be saved.

8 Du ließest einen Weinstock aus Ägypten ausziehen, vertriebst die Völkerschaften und pflanztest ihn.

A vine didst thou remove out of Egypt: thou drovest out nations, and plantedst it.

9 Du hast vor ihm ausgeräumt, Du ließest ihn seine Wurzeln schlagen, und er füllte das Land.

Thou didst clear out a place before it, and it struck its root deeply, and it filled the land.

10 Von seinem Schatten wurden Berge bedeckt, und von seinen Reben die Zedern Gottes.

Mountains were covered with its shadow, and with its boughs the cedars of God.

11 Du hast seine Ranken bis zum Meer entsandt und seine Schößlinge bis zum Fluß,

It sent out its tendrils as far as the sea, and unto the river its suckers.

12 Warum doch hast Du seine Mauern durchbrochen, daß jeder, der des Weges vorüberzieht, ihn berupft,

Wherefore hast thou now broken down its fences, so that all who pass by the way pluck the fruit from it?

13 Der Eber vom Walde hat ihn zerwühlt und das wilde Tier des Feldes ihn abgeweidet.

The boar out of the forest doth gnaw at it, and what moveth on the field feedeth on it.

14 Gott der Heerscharen, wende Dich doch zurück! Blicke von den Himmeln, siehe und suche diesen Weinstock heim,

O God of hosts, return; I pray thee, look down from heaven, and behold, and think of this vine;

15 Und den Setzling, den Deine Rechte gepflanzt hat, den Sohn, den Du Dir gekräftigt hast.

And of the sprout which thy right hand hath planted, and of the branch that thou hast made strong for thyself.

16 Verbrannt vom Feuer ist er, zerhauen: vom Dräuen Deines Angesichts vergehen sie.

It is burnt with fire, it is hewn down; because of the rebuke of thy countenance do they perish.

17 Deine Hand sei über dem Manne Deiner Rechten, über dem Menschensohn, den Du Dir gekräftigt hast.

Let thy hand be over the man of thy right hand, over the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself.

18 Und wir wollen nicht von Dir zurückweichen. Belebe uns, daß wir anrufen Deinen Namen.

Then will we not swerve from thee: revive us again, and we will call on thy name.

19 Jehovah, Gott der Heerscharen, bringe uns zurück, lasse leuchten Dein Angesicht, und wir werden gerettet.

O Lord God of hosts, cause us to return: let thy countenance shine, that we may be saved.
