Psalm 64

1 Dem Sangmeister. Ein Psalm Davids. Höre meine Stimme, Gott, in meiner Klage, bewahre mein Leben vor des Feindes Schauer.

To the chief music-maker. A Psalm. Of David. O God, let the voice of my grief come to your ear: keep my life from the fear of those who are against me.

2 Verbirg mich vor der Bösen Rotte, vor dem Gedränge derer, die Unrecht tun;

Keep me safe from the secret purpose of wrongdoers; from the band of the workers of evil;

3 Die ihre Zunge schärfen wie ein Schwert, die mit ihren Pfeilen zielen, mit bitterem Wort.

Who make their tongues sharp like a sword, and whose arrows are pointed, even bitter words;

4 Die im Verborgenen schießen auf den Untadeligen; plötzlich schießen sie und fürchten sich nicht.

So that in secret they may let loose their arrows at the upright, suddenly and unseen.

5 Sie machen fest für sich die böse Sache, erzählen, wie sie hehlings Fallstricke legen; sie sagen: Wer sieht sie?

They make themselves strong in an evil purpose; they make holes for secret nets; they say, Who will see it,

6 Sie erforschen Verkehrtes: Wir sind fertig, der Plan ist wohl überlegt; und das Innere des Mannes und das Herz sind tief.

Or make discovery of our secret purpose? The design is framed with care; and the inner thought of a man, and his heart, is deep.

7 Aber Gott schießt sie mit einem Pfeil; plötzlich kommen ihre Schläge.

But God sends out an arrow against them; suddenly they are wounded.

8 Und sie machen, daß sie straucheln; ihre Zunge ist wider sie; sie entfliehen, ein jeder, der sie sieht.

The evil of their tongues is the cause of their fall; all those who see them are shaking their heads at them.

9 Und alle Menschen fürchten sich und sagen an Gottes Werk und verstehen, was Er getan hat.

And in fear men make public the works of God; and giving thought to his acts they get wisdom.

10 Der Gerechte ist fröhlich in Jehovah und verläßt sich auf Ihn, und es rühmen sich alle, die geraden Herzens sind.

The upright will be glad in the Lord and have hope in him; and all the lovers of righteousness will give him glory.
