Psalm 4
1 Dem Sangmeister zum Saitenspiel. Ein Psalm Davids. Antworte mir, wenn ich rufe, Gott meiner Gerechtigkeit! Aus der Bedrängnis bringst Du mich ins Weite. Sei mir gnädig und höre auf mein Beten.
“To the chief musician on Neginoth, a psalm of David.” When I call, answer me, O God of my righteousness: amidst distress thou hast [ever] granted me enlargement; be gracious unto me, and hear my prayer.
2 Ihr Mannessöhne, wie lang wird meine Herrlichkeit zur Schande? Ihr liebet das Leere, trachtet nach Falschem! (Selah)
O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be put to shame? [how long] will ye love vanity, will ye seek for lies? (Selah)
3 Erkennet aber, daß Jehovah Wunderbares an Seinem Frommen tut. Jehovah hört, wenn ich zu Ihm rufe.
But know that the Lord hath set apart the pious for himself: the Lord will hear when I call on him.
4 Seid ihr erregt, so sündigt nicht! Sprechet in eurem Herzen auf eurem Lager und seid stille.
Tremble, and sin not: commune with your heart upon your bed, and be still (Selah)
5 Opfert Opfer der Gerechtigkeit, und vertrauet auf Jehovah!
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.
6 Es sprechen viele: Wer läßt uns Gutes sehen? Erhebe Du, Jehovah, das Licht Deines Angesichts über uns.
Many say, “Who will show us happiness? Let shine brightly over us the light of thy countenance, O Lord.”
7 Du gibst Fröhlichkeit in mein Herz mehr denn zur Zeit, da ihr Korn und ihr Most sich mehren.
[But] thou hast placed more joy in my heart than at the time when their corn and their wine were increased.
8 Im Frieden lege ich mich nieder zumal und schlafe; denn Du allein, Jehovah, läßt sicher mich wohnen.
In peace, altogether, will I lay me down and sleep; for thou, Lord, alone, causest me to dwell in safety.
