Psalm 37
1 Entbrenne nicht ob den Bösen, ereifre dich nicht über die, so Verkehrtes tun.
“Of David.” Do not fret thyself because of the evil-doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2 Denn eilig wie Gras werden sie abgeschnitten, und welken wie das Grün des jungen Krautes.
For like the grass they shall soon be mowed down, and like the green herb shall they wither.
3 Traue auf Jehovah, und tue Gutes! Wohne im Land und nähre dich an Wahrheit.
Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed [thyself] with truthfulness.
4 Ergötze dich an Jehovah, und Er wird dir geben die Bitten deines Herzens.
And delight thyself in the Lord, and he will give thee the wishes of thy heart.
5 Befiehl Jehovah deinen Weg und traue auf Ihn, und Er wird es machen.
Commit thy way unto the Lord, and trust in him: and he will accomplish it.
6 Und Er bringt heraus wie ein Licht deine Gerechtigkeit, und dein Recht wie Mittagshelle.
And he will bring forth as the light thy righteousness, and the justice of thy [cause] as the noonday.
7 Sei still dem Jehovah und warte Seiner. Entbrenne nicht wider den, dem sein Weg gelingt, wider den Mann, der Tücke übt.
Be silent before the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who practices wicked devices.
8 Lasse ab vom Zorn und verlasse den Grimm; entbrenne nicht, daß du Böses tust.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9 Denn die, so Böses tun, werden ausgerottet, die aber auf Jehovah hoffen, werden das Land besitzen.
For evil-doers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon the Lord, these—shall truly inherit the land.
10 Und noch um ein Kleines, so ist nicht mehr der Ungerechte; du betrachtest seinen Ort, und er ist nicht mehr.
For yet but for a little while, and the wicked shall be no more: yea, thou wilt look carefully at his place, and he shall not be there.
11 Die Demütigen aber werden das Land besitzen und sich ergötzen an dem vielen Frieden.
But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight themselves because of the abundance of peace.
12 Der Ungerechte sinnet wider den Gerechten und knirscht mit seinen Zähnen über ihn.
The wicked purposeth evil against the just, and gnasheth against him with his teeth.
13 Der Herr lacht seiner; denn Er sieht, daß sein Tag kommt.
The Lord will laugh at him; for he seeth that his day is coming.
14 Die Ungerechten ziehen das Schwert aus, und sie spannen ihren Bogen, den Elenden und Dürftigen zu fällen, zu schlachten, die auf geradem Wege sind.
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cause the poor and needy to fall, and to slaughter such as are of an upright course [of life].
15 Ihr Schwert geht hinein in ihr eigen Herz, und ihre Bogen werden zerbrochen.
[But] their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
16 Das Wenige, das der Gerechte hat, ist besser, denn der Haufe vieler Ungerechten.
Better is the little that the righteous hath, than the great riches of many wicked.
17 Denn des Ungerechten Arme zerbrechen; aber den Gerechten erhält Jehovah.
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the upholder of the righteous is the Lord.
18 Der Herr kennt die Tage der Rechtschaffenen und ihr Erbe ist in Ewigkeit.
The Lord regardeth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall endure for ever.
19 Sie werden nicht beschämt in der bösen Zeit, und werden gesättigt in den Tagen der Hungersnot.
They shall not be made ashamed in the time of unhappiness; and in the days of famine shall they be satisfied.
20 Denn die Ungerechten vergehen, und die Feinde Jehovahs werden alle wie der Fluren Pracht, sie werden alle wie der Rauch.
But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the beauty of the meadow: they pass away; in smoke they pass away.
21 Der Ungerechte borgt und erstattet nicht zurück, der Gerechte aber ist gnädig und gibt.
The wicked borroweth, and repayeth not; but the righteous is beneficent, and giveth.
22 Denn Seine Gesegneten besitzen das Land, und Seine Verfluchten werden ausgerottet.
For those blessed of him shall inherit the land; and those cursed of him shall be cut off.
23 Des Mannes Schritte werden von Jehovah fest gestellt, an seinem Wege hat Er Lust.
By the Lord are the steps of the righteous man established; and he findeth pleasure in his course [of life].
24 Fällt er, so wird er nicht weggeworfen; denn Jehovah erhält seine Hand.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholdeth his hand.
25 Ich war jung, bin auch alt geworden, und nie sah ich verlassen den Gerechten, noch seinen Samen nach Brot suchen.
I have been young, and I am also grown old: yet have I never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking for bread.
26 Alltäglich ist er gnädig und leiht, und sein Same ist zum Segen.
He is all the time beneficent, and lendeth: and his seed will be for a blessing.
27 Weiche ab vom Bösen, tue Gutes, und wohne ewiglich.
Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28 Denn Jehovah liebt das Recht, und Seine Heiligen verläßt Er nicht. Sie sind behütet ewiglich; aber der Ungerechten Same wird ausgerottet.
For the Lord loveth justice, and never forsaketh his pious servants: they are for ever preserved; but the seed of the wicked will be cut off.
29 Die Gerechten besitzen das Land und wohnen darin immerfort.
The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell for ever therein.
30 Des Gerechten Mund sinnt Weisheit, und seine Zunge redet das Gericht.
The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh what is just.
31 Das Gesetz Gottes ist in seinem Herzen, und seine Tritte gleiten nicht.
The law of his God is in his heart: none of his steps shall slip.
32 Der Böse späht auf den Gerechten und sucht ihn zu töten.
The wicked looketh out for the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
33 Jehovah verläßt ihn nicht in Seiner Hand, und läßt ihn nicht verdammen, wenn er gerichtet wird.
The Lord will not leave him in his hand, and will not condemn him when he is judged.
34 Hoffe auf Jehovah und halte Seinen Weg, daß Er dich erhöhe, auf daß du das Land besitzest, und du wirst die Ausrottung der Ungerechten sehen.
Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he will exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, shalt thou look on.
35 Den Ungerechten sah ich trotzig sich spreizen wie den grünen Urwaldsbaum.
I have seen the wicked terrible in power, and striking root like a green tree in its native soil.
36 Und man ging vorüber, und siehe, er war nicht mehr; und ich suchte nach ihm, und er ward nicht gefunden.
Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was no more: and I sought him, but he could not be found.
37 Habe Acht auf den Untadeligen und siehe den Redlichen, denn das Ende für den Mann ist Frieden.
Observe the perfect man, and behold the upright; for there is a [happy] future for the man of peace.
38 Die Übertreter werden allesamt vernichtet. Das Ende der Ungerechten ist, daß sie ausgerottet werden.
But the transgressors are destroyed together: the future of the wicked is cut off.
39 Aber das Heil der Gerechten ist von Jehovah; Er ist ihre Stärke zur Zeit der Drangsal.
And the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord: he is their strong-hold in the time of distress.
40 Jehovah steht ihnen bei und befreit sie; Er befreit sie von den Ungerechten und rettet sie; denn sie verlassen sich auf Ihn.
And the Lord helpeth them, and delivereth them; he will deliver them from the wicked, and save them; because they have put their trust in him.
