4 Mose 25

1 Und Israel wohnte in Schittim. Und das Volk fing an mit den Töchtern Moabs zu buhlen.

And Israel abode in Shittim. And the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab,

2 Und sie riefen das Volk zu den Opfern ihrer Götter, und das Volk aß und betete ihre Götter an.

for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.

3 Und Israel hängte sich an den Baal Peor. Und der Zorn Jehovahs entbrannte wider Israel.

And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor, and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

4 Und Jehovah sprach zu Mose: Nimm alle Häupter des Volkes und hänge sie auf dem Jehovah vor der Sonne, daß der brennende Zorn Jehovahs sich kehre von Israel.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel.

5 Und Mose sprach zu den Richtern Israels: Jeder Mann erwürge seine Männer, die sich an Baal Peor gehängt.

And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Kill ye every one his men who have joined themselves to Baal-peor.

6 Und siehe, ein Mann von den Söhnen Israels kam und brachte die Midianitin zu seinen Brüdern herbei vor den Augen Moses und den Augen der ganzen Gemeinde der Söhne Israels, und sei weinten am Eingang des Versammlungszeltes.

And, behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.

7 Und Pinechas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes Aharons, des Priesters, sah es, und er stand auf aus der Mitte der Gemeinde und nahm einen Speer in seine Hand;

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand.

8 Und er ging hinein, dem israelitischen Mann nach, in die Schlafkammer und durchstach sie beide, den israelitischen Mann und das Weib, durch ihren Leib. Und der Plage an den Söhnen Israels ward Einhalt getan.

And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the sons of Israel.

9 Und der Toten an der Plage waren vierundzwanzigtausend.

And those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

10 Und Jehovah redete zu Mose und sprach:

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

11 Pinechas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes Aharons, des Priesters, hat Meinen Grimm zurückgewendet von den Söhnen Israels, indem er Meinen Eifer in ihrer Mitte eiferte, so daß Ich die Söhne Israels in Meinem Eifer nicht verzehrte.

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the sons of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the sons of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Darum sprich: Siehe, Ich gebe ihm Meinen Bund des Friedens.

Therefore say, Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace.

13 Und der soll ihm und seinem Samen nach ihm der Bund ewigen Priestertums sein dafür, daß er für seinen Gott geeifert und die Söhne Israels gesühnt hat.

And it shall be to him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the sons of Israel.

14 Und der Name des erschlagenen israelitischen Mannes, der mit der Midianitin erschlagen worden, war Simri, der ein Sohn Salus und Fürst eines Vaterhauses der Simeoniten war.

Now the name of the man of Israel who was slain, who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a ruler of a fathers' house among the Simeonites.

15 Und der Name des erschlagenen midianitischen Weibes war Kosbi, die Tochter Zurs, der Haupt eines Volksstammes eines Vaterhauses in Midian war.

And the name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur. He was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.

16 Und Jehovah redete zu Mose und sprach:

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

17 Bedränge die Midianiter und schlaget sie.

Vex the Midianites, and smite them,

18 Denn sie haben euch mit ihrem Anschlag, den sie wider euch faßten, bedrängt, mit der Sache Peors und mit der Sache der Kosbi, der Tochter des Midianiter-Fürsten, ihrer Schwester, die am Tage der Plage um der Sache Peors willen erschlagen ward.

for they vex you with their wiles, with which they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the ruler of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.
