1 Sintemal es viele unternommen haben, eine Erzählung der bei uns sich erfüllten Dinge darzustellen,

2 Wie solche uns überliefert haben, die von Anfang an Augenzeugen und Diener des Wortes geworden sind,

3 So schien es auch mir gut, nachdem ich alles von Anbeginn genau verfolgt hatte, solches für dich, bester Theophilus, der Reihe nach zu schreiben;

4 Auf daß du über die Worte, in denen du unterrichtet worden, Gewißheit erfahrest.

7 Und sie hatten kein Kind, weil Elisabeth unfruchtbar und beide in ihren Tagen vorgeschritten waren.

8 Und es geschah, als er nach der Ordnung seiner Abteilung den Priesterdienst hatte vor Gott,

9 Daß ihn nach der Gewohnheit des Priestertums das Los traf, zu räuchern, und er ging hinein in den Tempel des Herrn.

10 Und die ganze Menge des Volkes war draußen und betete zur Stunde der Räucherung.

11 Es erschien ihm aber der Engel des Herrn, der stand zur Rechten des Rauchaltars.

12 Und Zacharias erbebte, als er ihn sah, und eine Furcht fiel auf ihn.

13 Der Engel aber sprach zu ihm: Fürchte dich nicht, Zacharias! denn dein Flehen ist erhört, und dein Weib Elisabeth wird dir einen Sohn gebären, und du sollst seinen Namen Johannes heißen.

15 Denn er wird groß sein vor dem Herrn; und Wein und starke Getränke wird er nicht trinken, und vom Heiligen Geist erfüllt werden noch im Leibe seiner Mutter.

16 Und wird viele der Söhne Israels zum Herrn, ihrem Gott, bekehren;

17 Und er wird vorangehen vor Ihm, in dem Geist und der Kraft des Elias, die Herzen der Väter zu den Kindern und Ungehorsame zur Gesinnung der Gerechten zu bekehren, zu bereiten dem Herrn ein zugerüstetes Volk.

18 Und Zacharias sprach zu dem Engel: Woran soll ich das erkennen? Denn ich bin alt und mein Weib ist vorgeschritten in ihren Tagen.

19 Und der Engel antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ich bin Gabriel, der vor Gott steht, und bin gesandt, zu dir zu reden und dir diese gute Botschaft zu bringen.

20 Und siehe, du wirst stilleschweigen und nicht reden können bis zu dem Tage, da dies geschieht, darum, daß du nicht geglaubt hast meinen Worten, die zu ihrer bestimmten Zeit erfüllt werden.

21 Und das Volk wartete auf Zacharias und verwunderte sich, daß er im Tempel verzog.

22 Als er aber herauskam, konnte er nicht zu ihnen reden; und sie erkannten, daß er im Tempel eine Erscheinung gesehen hatte; und er winkte ihnen und verblieb stumm.

24 Nach diesen Tagen aber empfing Elisabeth, sein Weib, und verbarg sich fünf Monate, indem sie sprach:

25 Also hat mir der Herr getan in den Tagen, da Er mich ansah, und meine Schmach unter den Menschen von mir wegnahm.

26 Im sechsten Monat aber ward der Engel Gabriel von Gott gesandt in eine Stadt in Galiläa, mit Namen Nazareth,

27 Zu einer Jungfrau, die verlobt war einem Manne namens Joseph vom Hause Davids. Und der Name der Jungfrau war Maria.

28 Und da der Engel zu ihr eintrat, sprach er: Gegrüßet seiest du, Begnadigte! Der Herr ist mit dir, du Gesegnete unter den Weibern!

29 Da sie ihn aber sah, erbebte sie über sein Wort und bedachte, was das für ein Gruß wäre.

30 Und der Engel sprach zu ihr: Fürchte dich nicht, Maria; denn du hast Gnade gefunden bei Gott.

31 Und siehe, du wirst empfangen im Leibe und einen Sohn gebären, und du sollst Seinen Namen Jesus heißen.

32 Der wird groß sein und der Sohn des Höchsten heißen, und der Herr Gott wird Ihm den Thron Davids, seines Vaters, geben.

33 Und Er wird König sein über das Haus Jakobs in die Ewigkeiten, und Seines Königtums wird kein Ende sein. (aiōn g165)

34 Maria aber sprach zu dem Engel: Wie soll das sein, sintemal ich keinen Mann kenne?

35 Und der Engel antwortete und sprach zu ihr: Der Heilige Geist wird über dich kommen, und die Kraft des Höchsten wird dich überschatten; darum wird auch das Heilige, das aus dir geboren wird, Sohn Gottes heißen.

36 Und siehe, Elisabeth, deine Verwandte, hat auch einen Sohn empfangen in ihrem Alter, und dies ist bei ihr, die unfruchtbar hieß, der sechste Monat.

37 Denn bei Gott ist kein Ding unmöglich.

38 Maria aber sprach: Siehe, die Magd des Herrn. Mir geschehe nach deiner Rede. Und der Engel ging weg von ihr.

39 Maria aber stand in selbigen Tagen auf und ging mit Eile ins Gebirge, in eine Stadt in Judah;

40 Und kam in das Haus des Zacharias und grüßte Elisabeth.

41 Und es geschah, als Elisabeth den Gruß Marias hörte, hüpfte das Kindlein in ihrem Leib; und Elisabeth ward vom Heiligen Geist erfüllt,
and to be as/when to hear the/this/who salutation the/this/who Mary the/this/who Elizabeth to leap the/this/who infant in/on/among the/this/who belly/womb/stomach it/s/he and to fill spirit/breath: spirit holy the/this/who Elizabeth
42 Und rief aus mit großer Stimme und sprach: Gesegnet bist du unter den Weibern, und gesegnet die Frucht deines Leibes!
and to exclaim (shouting *N(k)O*) great and to say to praise/bless you in/on/among woman and to praise/bless the/this/who fruit the/this/who belly/womb/stomach you
43 Und woher ist mir das, daß die Mutter meines Herrn zu mir kommt?
and whence me this/he/she/it in order that/to to come/go the/this/who mother the/this/who lord: God me to/with I/we
44 Denn siehe, wie mir die Stimme deines Grußes in meine Ohren drang, hüpfte frohlockend das Kindlein in meinem Leib!
look! for as/when to be the/this/who voice/sound: noise the/this/who salutation you toward the/this/who ear me to leap in/on/among joy the/this/who infant in/on/among the/this/who belly/womb/stomach me
45 Und selig bist du, die du geglaubt hast, daß, was zu dir vom Herrn geredet worden, vollbracht werden wird.

46 Und Maria sprach: Meine Seele erhebet den Herrn.

47 Und mein Geist frohlocket über Gott, meinen Heiland.

48 Daß Er die Niedrigkeit Seiner Magd hat angesehen; denn siehe, von nun an werden alle Geschlechter mich selig preisen.

49 Denn Großes hat an mir getan, Der da Kraft hat, und heilig ist Sein Name.

50 Und Seine Barmherzigkeit ist in die Geschlechter der Geschlechter für die, so Ihn fürchten.

51 Er übet Macht mit Seinem Arm; Er zerstreut, die hoffärtig sind in der Gesinnung ihres Herzens.

52 Er bringt die Gewalthaber herab von den Thronen und erhöht die Niedrigen.

53 Er füllt die Hungernden mit Gutem, und sendet die Reichen leer hinweg.

54 Er nimmt Sich an Seines Dieners Israel, daß Er gedächte der Barmherzigkeit;

56 Maria aber blieb bei ihr bei drei Mona- ten, und sie kehrte zurück in ihr Haus.

57 Elisabeth aber ward die Zeit erfüllt, daß sie gebären sollte, und sie gebar einen Sohn.

58 Und ihre Nachbarn und ihre Verwandten hörten, daß der Herr Seine große Barmherzigkeit an ihr getan, und freuten sich mit ihr.

59 Und es geschah am achten Tage, daß sie kamen, das Kindlein zu beschneiden, und sie hießen ihn nach seines Vaters Namen Zacharias.

60 Und seine Mutter antwortete und sprach: Mitnichten, sondern Johannes soll er heißen.

61 Und sie sprachen zu ihr: Es ist niemand in deiner Verwandtschaft, der nach diesem Namen hieße.

62 Sie winkten aber seinem Vater, wie er ihn wollte heißen lassen.

63 Und er bat um ein Täfelchen und schrieb und sprach: Johannes ist sein Name. Und sie verwunderten sich alle.

64 Und zugleich ward ihm der Mund aufgetan und seine Zunge, und er redete und segnete Gott.

65 Und es kam eine Furcht auf alle, die um sie her wohnten, und in dem ganzen Gebirge Judäas redete man über alle diese Dinge.

66 Und alle, die es hörten, nahmen es sich zu Herzen und sagten: Was wird wohl aus diesem Kindlein werden? Denn die Hand des Herrn war mit ihm.

68 Gesegnet sei der Herr, der Gott Israels! Denn Er hat heimgesucht und Erlösung bereitet Seinem Volke,

69 Und uns auferweckt ein Horn des Heils im Hause Davids, Seines Dieners,

71 Zur Rettung von unseren Feinden und aus der Hand aller, die uns hassen.

72 Und Barmherzigkeit an unseren Vätern zu tun, und Seines heiligen Bundes zu gedenken,

73 Des Eides, den Er Abraham, unserem Vater, geschworen hat, uns zu geben,

74 Daß wir ohne Furcht, entrissen aus der Hand unserer Feinde, Ihm dienten

75 In Heiligkeit und Gerechtigkeit vor Seinem Angesicht all unsere Tage.

76 Und du, Kindlein, wirst ein Prophet des Höchsten heißen; denn du wirst vorangehen vor dem Angesicht des Herrn, daß du Ihm Seine Wege bereitest;

77 Und Erkenntnis des Heils gebest Seinem Volke zur Vergebung ihrer Sünden;

78 Durch die innige Barmherzigkeit unseres Gottes, mit der uns heimgesucht hat der Aufgang aus den Höhen,

79 Auf daß Er erschiene denen, die da sitzen in der Finsternis und im Schatten des Todes, um unsere Füße auf den Weg des Friedens zu richten.

80 Das Knäblein aber wuchs und ward mächtig im Geist; und er war in den Wüsten bis zu dem Tage, da er sich vor Israel zeigen sollte.
