1 Und es geschah nach dem Tode Joschuas, daß die Söhne Israels Jehovah fragten und sprachen: Wer soll für uns hinaufziehen wider den Kanaaniter, um zu beginnen, mit ihm zu streiten?
And it came to pass after the death of Joshua that the children of Israel asked Jehovah, saying, Which of us shall go up against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
2 Und Jehovah sprach: Judah soll hinaufziehen. Siehe, Ich habe das Land in seine Hand gegeben.
And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 Und Judah sprach zu Schimeon, seinem Bruder: Ziehe mit mir hinauf in mein Los und laß uns wider den Kanaaniter streiten, und ich werde auch mit dir gehen in dein Los. Und Schimeon ging mit ihm.
And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, and let us fight against the Canaanites, and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot; and Simeon went with him.
4 Und Judah zog hinauf, und Jehovah gab den Kanaaniter und den Pherisiter in ihre Hand, und sie schlugen ihrer in Besek zehntausend Mann.
And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
5 Und sie trafen in Besek auf Adoni-Besek und stritten wider ihn und schlugen den Kanaaniter und den Pherisiter.
And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 Und Adoni-Besek floh, und sie setzten ihm nach hinter ihm her und griffen ihn und schnitten ihm die Daumen an Händen und Füßen ab.
And Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 Und Adoni-Besek sprach: Siebzig Könige mit abgeschnittenen Daumen an Händen und Füßen lasen unter meinem Tische auf. Wie ich getan, so hat mir Gott vergolten. Und sie brachten ihn herein nach Jerusalem, und er starb allda.
And Adoni-Bezek said, Seventy kings, with their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gleaned under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8 Und die Söhne Judahs stritten gegen Jerusalem und eroberten es und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und steckten die Stadt mit Feuer an.
And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 Und danach gingen die Söhne Judahs hinab, wider den Kanaaniter zu streiten, der auf dem Gebirge und im Mittag und in der Niederung wohnte.
And afterwards the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the hill-country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
10 Und Judah zog gegen den Kanaaniter, der in Chebron wohnte,
And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron — the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; and they slew Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.
11 Und von da ging er gegen die Einwohner von Debir. Und der Name Debir war vordem Kirjath Sepher.
And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir; now the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.
12 Und Kaleb sprach: Wer Kirjath Sepher schlägt und es erobert, dem gebe ich Achsah, meine Tochter, zum Weibe.
And Caleb said, He that smites Kirjath-sepher and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.
13 Und Othniel eroberte sie, der Sohn des Kenas, des Bruders von Kaleb, der jünger war als er, und er gab ihm Achsah, seine Tochter, zum Weibe.
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
14 Und es geschah, als sie hereinkam, trieb sie ihn an, von ihrem Vater Feld zu erbitten. Und sie ließ sich vom Esel herab und Kaleb sprach zu ihr: Was ist dir?
And it came to pass as she came, that she urged him to ask of her father the field; and she sprang down from the ass. And Caleb said to her, What wouldest thou?
15 Und sie sprach zu ihm: Gib mir einen Segen, denn du hast mir Mittagsland gegeben, so gib mir auch Wasserquellen. Und Kaleb gab ihr die oberen und die unteren Wasserquellen.
And she said to him, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a southern land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
16 Und die Söhne des Keniters, des Schwagers Moses, zogen von der Palmenstadt mit den Söhnen Judahs herauf in die Wüste Judah, die gegen Mittag von Arad ist, und ging hin und wohnte beim Volk.
And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, had gone up out of the city of palm-trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.
17 Und Judah zog mit seinem Bruder Schimeon hin, und sie schlugen den Kanaaniter, der in Zephath wohnte und verbannten dasselbe, und man nannte den Namen der Stadt Chormah.
And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it; and they called the name of the city Hormah.
18 Und Judah eroberte Gazah und ihre Grenze und Aschkelon und ihre Grenze und Ekron und ihre Grenze.
And Judah took Gazah and its border, and Ashkelon and its border, and Ekron and its border.
19 Und Jehovah war mit Judah, daß er das Gebirge einnahm; aber die im Talgrunde wohnten, vermochte er nicht auszutreiben, weil sie eiserne Wagen hatten.
And Jehovah was with Judah; and he took possession of the hill-country, for he did not dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 Und dem Kaleb gaben sie Chebron, wie Mose geredet hatte, und er trieb aus von da die drei Enakssöhne.
And they gave to Caleb Hebron, as Moses had said; and he dispossessed from thence the three sons of Anak.
21 Und den Jebusiter, der in Jerusalem wohnte, trieben die Söhne Benjamins nicht aus, und der Jebusiter wohnt mit den Söhnen Benjamins in Jerusalem bis auf diesen Tag.
And the children of Benjamin did not dispossess the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
22 Und das Haus Josephs zog auch hinauf wider Beth-El, und Jehovah war mit ihnen.
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel; and Jehovah was with them.
23 Und das Haus Josephs spähte Beth-El aus der Name der Stadt war aber vordem Lus.
And the house of Joseph sent to search out Bethel; now the name of the city before was Luz.
24 Und die Hüter sahen einen Mann aus der Stadt herauskommen und sprachen zu ihm: Zeige uns doch den Eingang in die Stadt, und wir wollen Barmherzigkeit an dir tun.
And the guards saw a man come forth out of the city, and said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, how [we] may enter into the city, and we will shew thee kindness.
25 Und er zeigte ihnen den Eingang in die Stadt, und sie schlugen die Stadt mit der Schärfe des Schwertes; den Mann aber und seine ganze Familie entließen sie.
And he shewed them how to enter into the city. And they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
26 Und der Mann ging hin in das Land der Chethiter und baute eine Stadt und nannte ihren Namen Lus. Das ist ihr Name bis auf diesen Tag.
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.
27 Und Menascheh nahm nicht ein Beth-Schean und seine Töchterstädte, noch Thaanach und seine Töchterstädte, noch die Einwohner Dors und ihre Töchterstädte, noch die Einwohner Jibleams und dessen Töchterstädte, noch Megiddos Einwohner und ihre Töchterstädte; und der Kanaaniter wollte in diesem Lande wohnen.
And Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-shean and its dependent villages, nor Taanach and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its dependent villages; and the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 Und es geschah, als Israel stark ward, machte es den Kanaaniter zinsbar und trieb ihn nicht ganz aus.
And it came to pass when Israel became strong, that they made the Canaanites tributary; but they did not utterly dispossess them.
29 Und Ephraim trieb den Kanaaniter nicht aus, der in Geser wohnte, und der Kanaaniter wohnte in seiner Mitte in Geser.
And Ephraim did not dispossess the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt among them in Gezer.
30 Sebulun trieb die Einwohner Kitrons, und die in Nahalal wohnten nicht aus, und der Kanaaniter wohnte in seiner Mitte und wurde zinsbar.
Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31 Ascher trieb nicht aus die Einwohner von Akko, noch die Einwohner von Zidon und Achlab und Achsib und Chelbah und Aphik und Rechob.
Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor Ahlab, nor Achzib, nor Helbah, nor Aphik, nor Rehob;
32 Und der Ascherite wohnte inmitten der Kanaaniter, die im Lande wohnten; denn er trieb sie nicht aus.
and the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not dispossess them.
33 Naphthali trieb nicht aus die Einwohner von Beth-Schemesch, noch die Einwohner von Beth-Anath und wohnte inmitten der Kanaaniter, die im Lande wohnten; und die Einwohner von Beth-Schemesch und Beth-Anath waren ihnen zinsbar.
Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; and he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries to them.
34 Und die Amoriter drängten die Söhne Dans auf das Gebirge und gestatteten ihnen nicht, in den Talgrund herabzukommen.
And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill-country, for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley.
35 Und der Amoriter wollte auf dem Berg Cheres in Aijalon und in Schaalbim wohnen; und die Hand des Hauses Josephs ward schwer, so daß sie zinsbar wurden.
And the Amorites would dwell on mount Heres, in Ajalon and in Shaalbim; but the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, and they became tributaries.
36 Und die Grenze des Amoriters war Maaleh Akrabbim von der Felsklippe an und aufwärts.
And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upwards.
