Josua 20

1 Und Jehovah redete zu Joschua und sprach:

The Lord also spake vnto Ioshua, saying,

2 Rede zu den Söhnen Israels und sprich: Nehmet euch die Zufluchtsstätte, von denen Ich zu euch durch Moses Hand geredet habe.

Speake to the children of Israel, and say, Appoint you cities of refuge, whereof I spake vnto you by the hand of Moses,

3 Auf daß dahin fliehe der Totschläger, der eine Seele aus Versehen und ohne Wissen geschlagen hat; und sie sollen euch eine Zuflucht vor dem Bluträcher sein.

That the slaier that killeth any person by ignorance, and vnwittingly, may flee thither, and they shall be your refuge from the auenger of blood.

4 Und der da flieht zu einer von diesen Städten, soll stehen am Eingang des Tores der Stadt, und soll vor den Ohren der Ältesten dieser Stadt seine Worte reden, und sie sollen ihn zu sich in die Stadt nehmen und ihm einen Ort geben, daß er bei ihnen wohne.

And he that doeth flee vnto one of those cities, shall stand at the entring of the gate of the citie, and shall shewe his cause to the Elders of the citie: and they shall receiue him into the citie vnto them, and giue him a place, that hee may dwell with them.

5 Und so der Bluträcher ihm hinten nachsetzt, sollen sie den Totschläger nicht in seine Hand überantworten, weil er ohne Wissen seinen Genossen geschlagen hat, und hat ihn nicht seit gestern oder ehegestern gehaßt.

And if the auenger of blood pursue after him, they shall not deliuer the slaier into his hand because hee smote his neighbour ignorantly, neither hated he him before time:

6 Und er wohne in selbiger Stadt, bis daß er vor der Gemeinde zu Gericht stehe, bis daß sterbe der Hohepriester, der in denselben Tagen sein wird. Alsdann darf der Totschläger in seine Stadt und in sein Haus zurückkehren, zur Stadt, aus der er geflohen ist.

But hee shall dwell in that citie vntill hee stande before the Congregation in iudgement, or vntill the death of the hie Priest that shall be in those daies: then shall the slaier returne, and come vnto his owne citie, and vnto his owne house, euen vnto the citie from whence he fled.

7 Und sie heiligten Kedesch im Galil auf dem Gebirge Naphthali und Schechem auf dem Gebirge Ephraim und Kirjath-Arbah, das ist Chebron, auf dem Gebirge Judah.

Then they appointed Kedesh in Galil in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba, (which is Hebron) in the mountaine of Iudah.

8 Und jenseits des Jordans bei Jericho nach dem Aufgang zu, gaben sie Bezer in der Wüste in der Ebene vom Stamme Rubens, und Ramoth in Gilead vom Stamme Gad, und Golan in Baschan vom Stamm Menascheh.

And on the other side Iorden toward Iericho Eastward, they appoynted Bezer in the wildernesse vpon the plaine, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead, out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, out of the tribe of Manasseh.

9 Dies waren die Städte, bestimmt für alle Söhne Israels und den Fremdling, der sich in ihrer Mitte aufhält, auf daß dahin fliehe jeder, der aus Versehen eine Seele schlägt, auf daß er nicht durch die Hand des Bluträchers sterbe, bis daß er vor der Gemeinde gestanden ist.

These were the cities appoynted for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that soiourned among them, that whosoeuer killed any person ignorantly, might flee thither, and not die by the hande of the auenger of blood, vntill hee stoode before the Congregation.
