Johannes 7
1 Nach diesem wandelte Jesus in Galiläa, denn Er wollte nicht in Judäa wandeln; weil die Juden Ihn zu töten suchten.
After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him.
2 Es war aber nahe das Fest der Juden, die Laubhütten.
But the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching.
3 Da sagten zu Ihm Seine Brüder: Ziehe von dannen und gehe hin nach Judäa, auf daß auch Deine Jünger die Werke sehen, die Du tust.
So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform.
4 Denn niemand tut etwas im Verborgenen und will selbst offenkundig sein. Wenn Du solches tust, so offenbare Dich Selbst der Welt.
For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world."
5 Denn auch Seine Brüder glaubten nicht an Ihn.
For even His brothers were not believers in Him.
6 Spricht Jesus nun zu ihnen: Meine Zeit ist noch nicht da; eure Zeit aber ist allezeit bereit.
"My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable.
7 Euch kann die Welt nicht hassen, Mich aber hasset sie, weil Ich zeuge von ihr, daß ihre Werke schlecht sind.
It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil.
8 Geht ihr hinauf auf dieses Fest. Ich gehe noch nicht hinauf auf dieses Fest, weil Meine Zeit noch nicht erfüllt ist.
As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come."
9 Da Er aber dies zu ihnen gesagt hatte, blieb Er in Galiläa.
Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee.
10 Als aber Seine Brüder hinaufgegangen waren, da ging auch Er hinauf auf das Fest, nicht öffentlich, sondern gleichsam im Verborgenen.
When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately.
11 Die Juden nun suchten Ihn auf dem Feste und sagten: Wo ist Jener?
Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?"
12 Und es war viel Gemurmel über Ihn in dem Gedränge. Die einen sagten: Er ist gut. Andere aber sagten: Nein, sondern Er führt die Menge irre.
Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people."
13 Keiner jedoch redete frei heraus über Ihn aus Furcht vor den Juden.
Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him.
14 Als aber schon die Mitte des Festes war, ging Jesus hinauf in das Heiligtum und lehrte.
But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching.
15 Und die Juden verwunderten sich und sagten: Wie weiß Der die Schriften, da Er sie nicht gelernt hat?
The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?"
16 Jesus antwortete ihnen und sprach: Meine Lehre ist nicht Mein, sondern Dessen, Der Mich gesandt hat.
Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me.
17 So jemand will Seinen Willen tun, der wird erkennen von der Lehre, ob sie von Gott ist, oder ob Ich von Mir Selber rede.
If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me.
18 Wer von sich selbst redet, der sucht seine eigene Ehre, wer aber die Ehre dessen sucht, der ihn gesandt hat, der ist wahrhaftig, und es ist keine Ungerechtigkeit in ihm.
The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him.
19 Hat nicht Moses euch das Gesetz gegeben? Und keiner von euch tut das Gesetz. Was sucht ihr Mich zu töten?
Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?"
20 Das Gedränge antwortete und sagte: Du hast einen Dämon. Wer sucht Dich zu töten?
"You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you."
21 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Ein einziges Werk habe Ich getan, und ihr verwundert euch alle darob.
"One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder.
22 Moses hat euch die Beschneidung gegeben, nicht daß sie von Moses ist, sondern von den Vätern, und ihr beschneidet einen Menschen am Sabbath.
Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child.
23 So nun ein Mensch Beschneidung empfängt am Sabbath, auf daß das Gesetz des Mose nicht gebrochen werde, was seid ihr erbittert über Mich, daß Ich einen ganzen Menschen habe am Sabbath gesund gemacht?
If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day?
24 Richtet nicht nach dem Ansehen, sondern richtet ein gerechtes Gericht.
Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just."
25 Da sprachen nun etliche aus denen von Jerusalem: Ist das nicht Der, Den sie zu töten suchen?
Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill?
26 Und siehe, Er redet frei heraus und sie sagen Ihm nichts. Haben die Obersten wahrhaftig erkannt, daß Dieser wahrhaftig der Messias ist?
But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ?
27 Aber von Dem wissen wir, von wannen Er ist. Wenn aber der Christus kommt, erkennt niemand, von wannen Er ist.
And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from."
28 Da rief Jesus, in dem Heiligtum lehrend, und sprach: Wohl kennt ihr Mich und wißt, von wannen Ich bin. Und von Mir Selbst bin Ich nicht gekommen, sondern es ist ein Wahrhaftiger, Der Mich gesandt hat, Den ihr nicht kennt.
Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge.
29 Ich aber kenne Ihn, weil Ich von Ihm bin, und Er Mich entsandt hat.
I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me."
30 Da suchten sie Ihn zu greifen; und keiner legte Hand an Ihn, weil Seine Stunde noch nicht gekommen war.
On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come.
31 Viele aber aus dem Gedränge glaubten an Ihn und sagten: Wenn Christus kommt, wird Er mehr Zeichen tun, als diese, so Dieser tat?
But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?"
32 Die Pharisäer hörten, daß das Gedränge solches über Ihn murmelte; und die Pharisäer und Hohenpriester entsandten Amtsdiener, daß sie Ihn griffen.
The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him.
33 Jesus sprach nun zu ihnen: Noch eine kleine Zeit bin Ich bei euch und gehe dann hin zu Dem, Der Mich gesandt hat.
So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me.
34 Ihr werdet Mich suchen und nicht finden, und wo Ich bin, da könnt ihr nicht hinkommen.
You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come."
35 Da sprachen die Juden zueinander: Wohin will Dieser ziehen, daß wir Ihn nicht finden sollten? Will Er unter die Zerstreuten bei den Griechen ziehen, und die Griechen lehren?
The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36 Was ist dieses Wort, daß Er sagt: Ihr werdet Mich suchen und nicht finden; und wo Ich bin, könnt ihr nicht hinkommen?
What do those words of his mean, 'You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?"
37 An dem letzten, dem großen Tage des Festes aber stand Jesus auf und rief und sprach: Wen da dürstet, der komme zu Mir und trinke!
On the last day of the Festival--the great day--Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink.
38 Wer an Mich glaubt, aus dessen Leib werden, wie die Schrift sagt, Ströme lebendigen Wassers fließen.
He who believes in me, from within him--as the Scripture has said--rivers of living water shall flow."
39 Dies sagte Er aber von dem Geiste, den empfangen würden die, so an Ihn glaubeten; denn der Heilige Geist war noch nicht, weil Jesus noch nicht verherrlicht war.
He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
40 Viele nun aus dem Gedränge, die das Wort hörten, sagten: Dies ist wahrhaftig der Prophet.
After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet."
41 Andere sagten: Dies ist der Christus! Andere aber sagten: Kommt denn der Christus aus Galiläa?
Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee?
42 Sagt nicht die Schrift, daß Christus aus dem Samen Davids, und von dem Flecken Bethlehem, wo David war, kommen wird?
Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?"
43 Da entstand ein Zwiespalt wegen Seiner unter dem Gedränge.
So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account.
44 Es wollten Ihn aber ihrer einige greifen; aber keiner legte die Hände an Ihn.
Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him.
45 Da kamen die Amtsdiener zu den Hohenpriestern und Pharisäern, und diese sagten zu ihnen: Warum habt ihr Ihn nicht hergeführt?
Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?"
46 Die Amtsdiener antworteten: Es hat noch nie ein Menschen so geredet, wie dieser Mensch.
"No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers.
47 Da antworteten ihnen die Pharisäer: Seid auch ihr irre geführt?
"Are you deluded too?" replied the Pharisees;
48 Glaubt auch einer von den Obersten oder von den Pharisäern an Ihn?
"has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?
49 Aber das Gedränge da, welches das Gesetz nicht erkennt, ist verflucht.
But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!"
50 Spricht zu ihnen Nikodemus, der des Nachts zu Ihm gekommen, und einer von ihnen war:
Nicodemus interposed--he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them.
51 Richtet unser Gesetz den Menschen, ehe man ihn zuvor gehört und erkannt hat, was er tut?
"Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?"
52 Sie antworteten und sagten zu ihm: Bist du auch aus Galiläa? Forsche und siehe, daß kein Prophet aus Galiläa auferweckt worden ist.
"Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin."
53 Und ein jeglicher ging hin in sein Haus.
[So they went away to their several homes;
