Jakobus 4
1 Woher kommen Streitereien und Kämpfe unter euch? Woher anders als aus euren Lüsten, die da streiten in euren Gliedern wider einander?
From whence are warres and contentions among you? are they not hence, euen of your pleasures, that fight in your members?
2 Ihr begehrt und könnt es nicht gewinnen, ihr neidet und eifert und könnt es nicht erlangen, ihr kämpft und streitet und habt es nicht, darum, daß ihr nicht bittet.
Ye lust, and haue not: ye enuie, and desire immoderately, and cannot obtaine: ye fight and warre, and get nothing, because ye aske not.
3 Ihr bittet und empfangt nicht, weil ihr für euch übel bittet, auf daß ihr es in euren Lüsten vergeuden könnt.
Ye aske, and receiue not, because ye aske amisse, that ye might lay the same out on your pleasures.
4 Ihr Ehebrecher und Ehebrecherinnen, wißt ihr nicht, daß der Welt Freundschaft Gottes Feinschaft ist; wer nun der Welt Freund sein will, der wird Gottes Feind.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, knowe ye not that the amitie of the world is the enimitie of God? Whosoeuer therefore will be a friend of the world, maketh himselfe the enemie of God.
5 Oder meint ihr, daß die Schrift umsonst spreche! Eifernd begehrt sie des Geistes, den Er in uns wohnen ließ.
Doe ye thinke that the Scripture sayeth in vaine, The spirit that dwelleth in vs, lusteth after enuie?
6 Er gibt aber größere Gnade; darum heißt es: Gott widersteht den Hoffärtigen, aber den Demütigen gibt Er Gnade.
But the Scripture offereth more grace, and therefore sayth, God resisteth the proude, and giueth grace to the humble.
7 So seid denn Gott untertänig. Widersteht dem Teufel, so flieht er von euch.
Submit your selues to God: resist the deuill, and he will flee from you.
8 Naht euch Gott, so naht Er Sich euch; reinigt die Hände, ihr Sünder, und haltet eure Herzen rein, ihr Wankelmütigen.
Drawe neere to God, and he will drawe neere to you. Clense your handes, ye sinners, and purge your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Fühlt euer Elend, trauert und weint. Euer Lachen wandle sich in Klage und eure Freude in Betrübnis.
Suffer afflictions, and sorrowe ye, and weepe: let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your ioy into heauinesse.
10 Demütigt euch vor dem Herrn, so wird Er euch erhöhen!
Cast downe your selues before the Lord, and he will lift you vp.
11 Redet einander nicht Übles nach, Brüder. Wer seinem Bruder Übles nachredet und seinen Bruder richtet, der redet wider das Gesetz und richtet das Gesetz. Wenn du aber das Gesetz richtest, so bist du kein Täter des Gesetzes, sondern Richter.
Speake not euill one of another, brethren. He that speaketh euill of his brother, or he that condemneth his brother, speaketh euill of ye Law, and condemneth the Lawe: and if thou condemnest the Lawe, thou art not an obseruer of the Lawe, but a iudge.
12 Es ist nur ein Gesetzgeber, Der lossprechen und verdammen kann. Wer bist du aber, der du den anderen richtest?
There is one Lawgiuer, which is able to saue, and to destroy. Who art thou that iudgest another man?
13 Wohlan nun ihr, die ihr sagt: Heute oder morgen wollen wir in die oder die Stadt gehen, wollen daselbst ein Jahr hantieren und gewinnen.
Goe to now ye that say, To day or to morowe we will goe into such a citie, and continue there a yeere, and bye and sell, and get gaine,
14 Und ihr wißt doch nicht, wie es morgen steht; denn was ist euer Leben? Ein Dunst ist es, der eine kleine Weile erscheint und dann vergeht.
(And yet ye cannot tell what shalbe to morowe. For what is your life? It is euen a vapour that appeareth for a litle time, and afterward vanisheth away)
15 Ihr solltet vielmehr sagen: So der Herr will und wir am Leben bleiben, wollen wir dies oder das tun.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, and, if we liue, we will doe this or that.
16 Nun aber rühmt ihr euch in eurem Übermut. All solches Rühmen aber ist vom Übel.
But now ye reioyce in your boastings: all such reioycing is euill.
17 Wer da weiß Gutes zu tun und tut es nicht, dem ist es Sünde.
Therefore, to him that knoweth how to doe well, and doeth it not, to him it is sinne.
