1 Mose 23
1 Und es war das Leben Sarahs hundert Jahre und zwanzig Jahre und sieben Jahre. Dies sind die Jahre des Lebens Sarahs.
And the life of Sarah was a hundred and seven and twenty years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2 Und Sarah starb in Kiriath-Arba, das ist Chebron, im Lande Kanaan; und Abraham kam zu klagen um Sarah und sie zu beweinen.
And Sarah died in Kiriatharba — the same is Hebron — in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3 Und Abraham stand auf über dem Angesichte seiner Toten und redete zu den Söhnen Cheths, und sprach:
And Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke unto the children of Heth, saying:
4 Ein Fremdling und Beisasse bin ich bei euch. Gebt mir das Eigentum eines Grabes bei euch, daß ich meine Tote von meinem Angesichte weg begrabe.
'I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.'
5 Und die Söhne Cheths antworteten Abraham, und sprachen zu ihm:
And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him:
6 Höre uns, mein Herr. Du bist ein Fürst Gottes in unserer Mitte. In der Auswahl unserer Gräber begrabe deine Tote. Kein Mann von uns wird dir sein Grab verwehren, daß du deine Tote begrabest.
'Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us; in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.'
7 Und Abraham stand auf und verbeugte sich vor dem Volke des Landes, vor den Söhnen Cheths.
And Abraham rose up, and bowed down to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8 Und er redete mit ihnen, und sprach: Wenn es in eurer Seele ist, daß ich die Tote von meinem Angesichte weg begrabe, so höret mich an, und vermittelt für mich bei Ephron, Zochars Sohn,
And he spoke with them, saying: 'If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9 Daß er mir gebe die Höhle Machpelah, die sein ist, am Ende seines Feldes; um volles Silber gebe er sie mir in eurer Mitte zum Grabeseigentum.
that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for the full price let him give it to me in the midst of you for a possession of a burying-place.'
10 Und Ephron saß in der Mitte der Söhne Cheths, und Ephron, der Chethiter, antwortete Abraham vor den Ohren der Söhne Cheths, vor allen, die zum Tore seiner Stadt eingingen, und sprach:
Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the children of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying:
11 Nein, mein Herr, höre mich. Das Feld gebe ich dir, und die Höhle, die darinnen ist, gebe ich dir, vor den Augen der Söhne meines Volkes gebe ich sie dir, begrabe deine Tote.
'Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee; bury thy dead.'
12 Und Abraham verbeugte sich vor dem Volke des Landes,
And Abraham bowed down before the people of the land.
13 Und er redete zu Ephron vor den Ohren des Volkes des Landes und sprach: Wolltest du doch auf mich hören. Ich gebe dir das Silber des Feldes. Nimm es von mir, und ich will meine Tote dort begraben.
And he spoke unto Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying: 'But if thou wilt, I pray thee, hear me: I will give the price of the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.'
14 Und Ephron antwortete Abraham und sprach zu ihm:
And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him:
15 Mein Herr, höre mich: Ein Land, vierhundert Schekel Silbers wert, was ist das zwischen mir und dir? So begrabe nun deine Tote.
'My lord, hearken unto me: a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.'
16 Und Abraham hörte auf Ephron; und Abraham wog Ephron das Silber dar, wie dieser vor den Ohren der Söhne Cheths geredet hatte, vierhundert Schekel Silbers, wie es beim Händler gangbar ist.
And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
17 Und es ward erstanden das Feld Ephrons, das in Machpelah vor Mamre ist, das Feld und die Höhle die darin ist und jeder Baum auf dem Felde, die in all seiner Grenze umher,
So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the border thereof round about, were made sure
18 Dem Abraham als Erworbenes vor den Augen der Söhne Cheths, vor allen, die zum Tor seiner Stadt eingingen.
unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
19 Und danach begrub Abraham Sarah, sein Weib, in der Höhle des Feldes Machpelah, vor Mamre, das ist Chebron, im Lande Kanaan.
And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre — the same is Hebron — in the land of Canaan.
20 Und es war das Feld und die Höhle darin als Grabeigentum von den Söhnen Cheths von Abraham erstanden.
And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a burying-place by the children of Heth.
