1 Mose 18
1 Und Jehovah erschien ihm in den Eichenhainen Mamres, und er saß am Eingang des Zeltes als der Tag heiß ward.
Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.
2 Und er hob seine Augen auf und sah, und siehe, drei Männer standen bei ihm; und er sah, und lief ihnen entgegen vom Eingang des Zeltes und verbeugte sich zur Erde.
He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood near him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,
3 Und sprach: Mein Herr, wenn ich doch Gnade fände in deinen Augen! Zieh doch nicht vorüber an deinem Knechte.
and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.
4 Nehmet doch ein wenig Wasser, und waschet eure Füße und lehnet euch unter den Baum.
Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5 Und ich will einen Bissen Brot holen, daß ihr euer Herz stützet, hernach möget ihr vorüberziehen. Denn darum seid ihr bei eurem Knechte vorübergezogen. Und sie sprachen: Tue, wie du geredet hast.
I will get a piece of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.” They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”
6 Und Abraham eilte nach dem Zelt zu Sarah, und sprach: Nimm eilends drei Seah Mehl, Semmelmehl, knete und mache Kuchen.
Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three seahs of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”
7 Und Abraham lief zu den Rindern, und nahm ein Kalb, zart und gut, und gab es dem Jungen; und er eilte, es zu bereiten.
Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.
8 Und er nahm Butter und Milch und das Kalb, das er bereiten ließ, und setzte ihnen vor, und er stand bei ihnen unter dem Baum und sie aßen.
He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
9 Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Wo ist dein Weib Sarah? Und er sagte: sehet, in dem Zelte.
They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “There, in the tent.”
10 Und Er sprach: Zu dieser Zeit des Lebens kehre Ich zu dir zurück, und siehe, dein Weib Sarah hat einen Sohn; und Sarah hörte es am Eingang des Zeltes, und dieser war hinter ihm.
He said, “I will certainly return to you at about this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
11 Und Abraham und Sarah waren alt, gekommen in die Tage und es hatte aufgehört mit Sarah zu sein nach der Weiber Weise.
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
12 Und Sarah lachte bei sich und sprach: Nachdem ich alt geworden bin, sollt ich noch Wollust haben? Und mein Herr ist alt.
Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
13 Und Jehovah sprach zu Abraham: Warum lacht Sarah und spricht: Sollte ich fürwahr gebären, so ich doch alt bin?
Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child when I am old?’
14 Sollte für Jehovah ein Ding zu wunderbar sein? Zur bestimmten Zeit kehre Ich zu dir zurück, um diese Zeit des Lebens und Sarah hat einen Sohn.
Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes around, and Sarah will have a son.”
15 Und Sarah leugnete und sagte: Ich habe nicht gelacht; denn sie fürchtete sich. Er aber sprach: Nein, du hast gelacht.
Then Sarah denied it, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
16 Und die Männer standen auf von da und schauten aus gegen Sodom, und Abraham ging mit ihnen, sie zu entsenden.
The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
17 Und Jehovah sprach: Soll Ich vor Abraham verdecken, was Ich tun will?
Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18 Und Abraham wird doch zur großen und zahlreichen Völkerschaft, und alle Völkerschaften der Erde sollen in ihm gesegnet werden.
since Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
19 Denn Ich habe ihn dahin erkannt, daß er seinen Söhnen und seinem Hause nach ihm wird gebieten, daß sie den Weg Jehovahs halten, zu tun Gerechtigkeit und Recht, auf daß Jehovah auf Abraham kommen lasse, was Er über ihn geredet hat.
For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”
20 Und Jehovah sprach: Weil des Geschreis über Sodom und Gomorrah viel geworden, und ihre Sünde sehr schwer ist.
Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
21 Will Ich nun doch hinabsteigen und sehen, ob sie nach dem Geschrei, das zu Mir gekommen, eine Vollendung gemacht, und ob nicht, will Ich wissen.
I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”
22 Die Männer aber wandten sich von da und gingen gen Sodom; und Abraham stand noch vor Jehovah.
The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.
23 Und Abraham trat herzu und sprach: Willst Du auch wegraffen den Gerechten mit dem Ungerechten?
Abraham came near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
24 Vielleicht sind fünfzig Gerechte in der Mitte der Stadt. Willst Du den Ort auch dann wegraffen, und nicht ihm verzeihen um der fünfzig Gerechten willen, die in seiner Mitte sind?
What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?
25 Das sei ferne von Dir, nach solchem Worte zu tun, daß Du tötest den Gerechten mit dem Ungerechten, und daß der Gerechte sei, wie der Ungerechte; das sei ferne von Dir. Sollte der Rier der ganzen Erde nicht Gericht üben?
May it be far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”
26 Und Jehovah sprach: Wenn Ich in Sodom fünfzig Gerechte in der Mitte der Stadt finde, so verzeihe Ich dem ganzen Orte um ihretwillen.
Yahweh said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.”
27 Und Abraham antwortete und sprach: Siehe doch, ich habe mich unterstanden, mit meinem Herrn zu reden, und ich bin Staub und Asche.
Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, although I am dust and ashes.
28 Vielleicht mangeln zu den fünfzig Gerechten fünf, wirst du die ganze Stadt um der fünfe willen verderben? Und Er sprach: Ich will sie nicht verderben, wenn Ich dort fünfundvierzig finde.
What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”
29 Und er fuhr fort, mit Ihm zu reden, und sprach: Vielleicht finden sich dort vierzig; und Er sprach: Ich will es nicht tun um der vierzig willen.
He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”
30 Und er sprach: Entbrenne doch nicht, mein Herr, und ich will reden; vielleicht würden dreißig dort gefunden. Und Er sprach: Ich will es nicht tun, wenn Ich dort dreißig finde.
He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
31 Und er sprach: Siehe doch, ich habe mich unterstanden, mit meinem Herrn zu reden. Vielleicht wird man dort zwanzig finden. Und Er sprach: Ich verderbe sie nicht um der zwanzig willen.
He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”
32 Und er sprach: Es entbrenne nicht mein Herr, daß ich nur noch diesmal rede. Vielleicht werden dort zehn gefunden. Und Er sprach: Um der zehn willen verderbe Ich sie nicht.
He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”
33 Und Jehovah ging hin, als Er mit Abraham vollendet zu reden; und Abraham kehrte zurück an seinen Ort.
Yahweh went his way as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
