1 Mose 10
1 Und dies sind die Zeugungen der Söhne Noachs: Schem, Cham und Japheth; und es wurden ihnen nach der Flut Söhne geboren.
(This is/I will now give) a list of the descendants of Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They had many children after the flood.
2 Die Söhne Japheths sind Gomer und Magog und Madai und Javan und Thubal und Meschech und Thiras.
The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3 Und die Söhne Gomers: Aschkenas und Riphath und Thogarmah.
The sons of Gomer were Askenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 Und die Söhne Javans: Elischah und Tarschisch, Kitthim und Dodanim.
The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5 Von diesen trennten sich ab die Inseln der Völkerschaften in ihren Ländern, jede nach ihrer Zunge, nach ihren Familien, in ihren Völkerschaften.
Those sons and their families who were descended from Javan lived on the islands and on the land close to the [Mediterranean] Sea. Their descendants became tribes, each with its own language and clans and territory.
6 Und die Söhne Chams: Kusch und Mizraim und Put und Kanaan.
The descendants of Ham were Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.
7 Und die Söhne Kuschs waren Seba und Chavilah und Sabtha und Raemah und Sabtheka; und die Söhne Raemahs: Scheba und Dedan.
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
8 Und Kusch zeugte Nimrod; der fing an ein Mächtiger zu werden auf der Erde.
Another one of Cush’s descendants was Nimrod. Nimrod was the first person on earth who became a mighty warrior.
9 Er war ein mächtiger Jäger vor Jehovah. Darum sagte man: Wie Nimrod ein mächtiger Jäger vor Jehovah.
Yahweh saw that he had become (OR, caused him to become) a great hunter. That is why people say to a great hunter, “Yahweh (sees that you are/has caused you to be) a great hunter like Nimrod.”
10 Und der Anfang seines Königreiches war Babel und Erech und Akkad und Kalneh im Lande Schinear.
Nimrod became a king who ruled in Babylonia. The first cities over which he ruled were Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh.
11 Von diesem Lande zog aus Aschur, und baute Niniveh und die Stadt Rechoboth und Kalach;
From there he went [with others] to Assyria and built the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
12 Und Resen zwischen Niniveh und zwischen Kalach. Dies ist die große Stadt.
and Resen. Resen was a large city between Nineveh and Calah.
13 Und Mizraim zeugte die Ludim und Lehabim und Naphtuchim.
Ham’s son, Egypt, became the ancestor of the Lud, Anam, Lehab and Naphtuh,
14 Und die Pathrusim und die Kasluchim. Woher die Philister ausgingen, und die Kaphthorim.
Pathrus, Casluh and Caphtor people-groups. The Philistine people were descended from Casluh.
15 Und Kanaan zeugte Zidon, seinen Erstgeborenen, und Cheth.
Ham’s youngest son, Canaan, became the father of Sidon, who was his eldest son, and Heth, his younger son.
16 Und den Jebusiter und den Amoriter und den Girgaschiter.
Canaan was also the ancestor of the Jebus, Amor, Girgash,
17 Und den Chiviter und den Arkiter und den Siniter.
Hiv, Ark, Sin,
18 Und den Arvaditer und den Zemariter und den Chamathiter; und nachher zerstreuten sich die Familien des Kanaaniters.
Arved, Zemar and Hamath people-groups. Later the descendants of Canaan dispersed over a large area.
19 Und die Grenze des Kanaaniters war von Zidon, da man nach Gerar und Gazah kommt, da man gen Sodom und Gomorrah, und Admah und Zeboim bis Lascha kommt.
Their land extended from Sidon [city] in the north as far south as Gaza [town], and then to the east as far as Gerar [town], and then farther east to Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim [towns], and even as far as Lasha [town].
20 Dies sind die Söhne Chams nach ihren Familien, nach ihren Zungen in ihren Ländern, in ihren Völkerschaften.
Those are the descendants of Ham. They became groups that had their own clans, their own languages, and their own land.
21 Und dem Schem, auch ihm ward geboren; er war der Vater aller Söhne Ebers; der größere Bruder Japheths.
Shem, the older brother of Japheth, became the father of Eber, and the ancestor of all the descendants of Eber.
22 Schems Söhne sind Elam und Aschur und Arpachschad und Lud und Aram.
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
23 Und Arams Söhne sind Uz und Chul und Gether und Masch.
The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24 Und Arpachschad zeugte Schelach und Schelach zeugte Eber.
Arphaxad became the father of Shelah. Shelah became the father of Eber.
25 Und dem Eber wurden zwei Söhne geboren. Der Name des einen war Peleg, weil in seinen Tagen die Erde zerteilt ward, und der Name seines Bruders war Joktan.
Eber became the father of two sons. One of them was named Peleg, [which means ‘division’], because during the time he lived, people on [MTY] the earth became divided and scattered everywhere. Peleg’s younger brother was Joktan.
26 Und Joktan zeugte Almodad und Schaleph und Chazarmaveth und Jerach;
Joktan became the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 Und Hadoram und Uzal und Diklah;
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 Und Obal und Abimael und Scheba;
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29 Und Ophir und Chavilah und Jobab. Alle diese waren Söhne Joktans.
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All those people were descended from Joktan.
30 Und ihre Wohnung war von Mescha, da man gen Sephar, einen Berg in Osten kommt.
The areas in which they lived extended from Mesha westward to Sephar, which is in the (hill country/area that has a lot of hills).
31 Dies sind die Söhne Schems nach ihren Familien, nach ihren Zungen, in ihren Ländern, nach ihren Völkerschaften.
They are descendants of Shem. They became groups that had their own clans, their own languages, and their own land.
32 Dies sind die Familien der Söhne Noachs nach ihren Geburten, in ihren Völkerschaften; und von ihnen trennten sich ab die Völkerschaften auf der Erde nach der Flut.
All those groups descended from the sons of Noah. Each group had its own (genealogy/record of people’s ancestors) and each became a separate ethnic group. Those ethnic groups formed after the flood and spread all around the earth.
