2 Mose 1
1 Und dies sind die Namen der Söhne Israels, die mit Jakob nach Ägypten kamen. Ein Mann und sein Haus kamen sie.
These are the names of the sons of Israel that came into Egypt together with Jacob their father; they came in each with their whole family.
2 Ruben, Simeon, Levi und Judah.
Ruben, Simeon, Levi, Judas,
3 Isaschar, Sebulon und Benjamin.
Issachar, Zabulon, Benjamin,
4 Dan und Naphthali, Gad und Ascher.
Dan and Nephthalim, Gad and Aser.
5 Und es waren alle Seelen, die aus Jakobs Hüfte hervorgegangen, siebzig Seelen. Joseph aber war in Ägypten.
But Joseph was in Egypt. And all the souls [born] of Jacob were seventy-five.
6 Und Joseph starb und alle seine Brüder und selbiges ganze Geschlecht.
And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7 Und die Söhne Israels waren fruchtbar und zeugten sich fort und mehrten sich und wurden sehr sehr zahlreich, und das Land ward angefüllt von ihnen.
And the children of Israel increased and multiplied, and became numerous and grew exceedingly strong, and the land multiplied them.
8 Und es stand ein neuer König über Ägypten auf, der Joseph nicht kannte.
And there arose up another king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.
9 Und er sprach zu seinem Volke: Siehe, das Volk der Söhne Israels wird mehr und zahlreicher denn wir.
And he said to his nation, Behold, the race of the children of Israel is a great multitude, and is stronger than we:
10 Wohlan, lasset uns weislich handeln gegen dasselbe, daß es nicht sich mehre und wenn uns Krieg begegne, sich auch zu unseren Hassern hinzutue, und wider uns streite und aus dem Lande hinaufziehe.
come then, let us deal craftily with them, lest at any time they be increased, and whenever war shall happen to us, these also shall be added to our enemies, and having prevailed against us in war, they will depart out of the land.
11 Und sie setzten Oberste der Fröner über dasselbe, um es durch Lasten zu bedrücken; und es baute dem Pharao die Vorratsstädte Pithon und Raamses.
And he set over them taskmasters, who should afflict them in their works; and they built strong cities for Pharao, both Pitho, and Ramesses, and On, which is Heliopolis.
12 Aber je mehr sie es bedrückten, desto mehr vermehrte es sich und brach es hervor, so daß ihnen die Söhne Israels zum Überdrusse wurden.
But as they humbled them, by so much they multiplied, and grew exceedingly strong; and the Egyptians greatly abhorred the children of Israel.
13 Und die Ägypter hielten die Söhne Israels zum Dienst an mit Strenge.
And the Egyptians tyrannized over the children of Israel by force.
14 Und verbitterten ihnen ihr Leben mit hartem Dienst in Lehm und Ziegeln und in allerlei Dienst auf dem Feld, nebst all ihren Diensten, zu denen sie mit Strenge sie dienstbar machten.
And they embittered their life by hard labors, in the clay and in brick-making, and all the works in the plains, according to all the works, wherein they caused them to serve with violence.
15 Und der König Ägyptens sprach zu den Wehmüttern der Hebräerinnen, wovon der Name der einen war Schiphrah, und der Name der andern Puah.
And the king of the Egyptians spoke to the midwives of the Hebrews; the name of the one was, Sepphora; and the name of the second, Phua.
16 Und er sprach: Wenn ihr die Hebräerinnen entbindet und sie auf den Geburtsstühlen sehet, wenn es ein Sohn ist, so tötet ihn, ist es aber eine Tochter, so mag sie leben.
And he said, When you do the office of midwives to the Hebrew women, and they are about to be delivered, if it be a male, kill it; but if a female, save it.
17 Die Wehmütter aber fürchteten Gott und taten nicht wie der König von Ägypten zu ihnen geredet hatte und ließen die Knaben am Leben.
But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt appointed them; and they saved the male children alive.
18 Und der König von Ägypten rief die Wehmütter und sprach zu ihnen: Warum habt ihr so getan und die Knaben am Leben gelassen?
And the king of Egypt called the midwives, and said to them, Why is it that you have done this thing, and saved the male children alive?
19 Die Wehmütter aber sprachen zu Pharao: Weil die Hebräerinnen nicht sind wie die ägyptischen Weiber; denn sie sind lebhaft, ehe die Wehmutter zu ihnen kommt, da haben sie geboren.
And the midwives said to Pharao, The Hebrew women are not as the women of Egypt, for they are delivered before the midwives go in to them. So they bore children.
20 Und Gott tat den Wehmüttern Gutes; und das Volk mehrte sich und ward sehr zahlreich.
And God did well to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very strong.
21 Und es geschah, weil die Wehmütter Gott fürchteten, so machte er ihnen Häuser.
And as the midwives feared God, they established for themselves families.
22 Und Pharao gebot all seinem Volk und sprach: Jeglichen Sohn, der geboren wird, werfet in den Strom, jede Tochter aber lasset leben.
And Pharao charged all his people, saying, Whatever male [child] shall be born to the Hebrews, cast into the river; and every female, save it alive.
