Daniel 2

1 Und im zweiten Jahre der Regierung Nebuchadnezzars träumte Nebuchadnezzar Träume, und sein Geist war beunruhigt, und sein Schlaf war ihm dahin.

And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.

2 Und der König befahl, die Magier und die Wahrsager und die Zauberer und die Chaldäer zu rufen, daß sie dem König seine Träume ansagen sollten, und sie kamen hinein und standen vor dem König.

And the king commanded to call the scribes, and the magicians, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to shew the king his dreams; and they came and stood before the king.

3 Und der König sprach zu ihnen: Ich habe einen Traum geträumt, und mein Geist ist beunruhigt, daß ich den Traum wissen möchte.

And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.

4 Und die Chaldäer redeten zum König aramäisch: O König, lebe in Ewigkeit, sage deinen Knechten den Traum, so wollen wir dir die Deutung anzeigen.

And the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, O king, live for ever! tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

5 Der König antwortete und sprach zu den Chaldäern: Das Wort ist mein Ernst: Wenn ihr mir nicht den Traum kundtut und seine Deutung, so sollt ihr in Stücke zerhauen und eure Häuser zu Düngerhaufen gemacht werden.

The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The command is gone forth from me: If ye do not make known unto me the dream, and its interpretation, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

6 Wenn ihr aber den Traum und seine Deutung anzeigt, so sollet ihr viele Gaben und Ehrensold und viele Kostbarkeiten von mir empfangen. Darum zeigt mir den Traum und seine Deutung an.

But if ye shew the dream and its interpretation, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour; therefore shew me the dream and its interpretation.

7 Sie antworteten ihm zum zweitenmal und sprachen: Der König sage seinen Knechten den Traum, so wollen wir die Deutung anzeigen.

They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

8 Der König antwortete und sprach: Gewiß-lich weiß ich nun, daß ihr Zeit gewinnen wollt, weil ihr erschaut habt, daß das Wort mein Ernst ist.

The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that ye would gain time, because ye see the word is gone forth from me;

9 Wenn ihr den Traum mir nicht kundtut, so ist dies der alleinige Erlaß für euch: Ihr habt verabredet ein falsch und verdorbenes Wort vor mir zu sprechen, bis daß die Zeit sich ändere. Darum sagt mir den Traum, daß ich erkenne, daß ihr mir auch seine Deutung anzeigen könnt.

but if ye do not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you; for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me its interpretation.

10 Die Chaldäer antworteten vor dem König und sprachen: Kein Mensch ist auf dem Erdboden, der das Wort dem König anzeigen könnte, alldieweil kein König, wie groß und gewaltig er auch sei, ein Ding, wie dieses, von irgendeinem Magier und Wahrsager und Chaldäer fordert.

The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter; therefore there is no king, however great and powerful, that hath asked such a thing of any scribe, or magician, or Chaldean.

11 Und das Wort, das der König fordert, ist zu schwer, und einen anderen gibt es nicht, der es vor dem König anzeigen könnte, als die Götter, deren Verweilen nicht beim Fleische ist.

For the thing that the king demandeth is extraordinary, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

12 Ob alledem ward der König sehr aufgebracht und entrüstet, und befahl, alle Weisen Babels zu zerstören.

For this cause the king was irritated and very wroth, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

13 Und es erging der Erlaß, daß die Weisen sollten getötet werden, und sie suchten Daniel und seine Gesellen, um sie zu töten.

And the decree went forth that the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to slay them.

14 Da erteilte Daniel Rat und Weisung Arjoch, dem Hauptmann der Leibwachen des Königs, der ausging, die Weisen Babels zu töten.

Then Daniel answered with counsel and prudence to Arioch the chief of the king's bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

15 Er antwortete und sprach zu Arjoch, dem Gewalthaber des Königs: Warum ergeht so hastig der Erlaß vom König? Und Arjoch tat Daniel die Sache kund.

he answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so rigorous from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

16 Und Daniel ging hinein und ersuchte den König, daß er ihm Frist gebe, auf daß er dem König die Deutung anzeige.

And Daniel went in, and requested of the king that he would give him time, that he might shew the king the interpretation.

17 Da ging Daniel nach Haus, und tat Chananjah, Mischael und Asarjah, seinen Gesellen, die Sache kund,

Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions;

18 Daß sie vom Gott der Himmel Erbarmen ersuchten ob diesem Geheimnisse, damit sie Daniel und seine Gesellen nicht samt den übrigen Weisen Babels zerstörten.

that they would desire mercies of the God of the heavens concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19 Da ward dem Daniel in dem Gesichte der Nacht das Geheimnis geoffenbart. Da segnete Daniel den Gott der Himmel.

Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of the heavens.

20 Daniel antwortete und sprach: Gesegnet sei der Name Gottes von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit: denn Sein ist die Weisheit und die Macht.

Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; For wisdom and might are his.

21 Und Er ändert Zeiten und Fristen, läßt Könige dahingehen und läßt erstehen Könige, Er gibt Weisen die Weisheit und Wissenschaft denen, die Einsicht kennen.

And it is he that changeth times and seasons; He deposeth kings, and setteth up kings; He giveth wisdom to the wise, And knowledge to them that know understanding.

22 Er offenbart die Tiefen und das Verborgene, Er weiß, was in der Finsternis ist, und bei Ihm wohnt das Licht.

It is he that revealeth the deep and secret things; He knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

23 Dich, o Gott meiner Väter, bekenne ich und preise Dich, Der Du mir Weisheit und Macht gegeben hast, und mich jetzt hast wissen lassen, was wir von Dir ersuchten, Der Du uns hast die Sache des Königs kundgetan.

I thank thee, and I praise thee, O God of my fathers, Who hast given me wisdom and might, And hast made known unto me already what we desired of thee; For thou hast made known unto us the king's matter.

24 Deswegen ging Daniel hinein zu Arjoch, den der König bestimmt hatte, die Weisen Babels zu zerstören. Er ging hin und sprach zu ihm also: Die Weisen Babels sollst du nicht zerstören, bringe mich hinein vor den König, und ich werde dem König die Deutung anzeigen.

Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said thus unto him: Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.

25 Da brachte Arjoch den Daniel eilig hinein vor den König und sprach zu ihm also: Ich habe einen Mann von den Söhnen der Verbannung aus Jehudah gefunden, der dem König die Deutung kundtun wird.

Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him: I have found a man of the sons of the captivity of Judah that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

26 Der König antwortete und sprach zu Daniel, dessen Name Beltschazzar war: Ver- magst du den Traum, den ich geschaut, und dessen Deutung mir kundzutun?

The king answered and said unto Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream that I have seen, and its interpretation?

27 Daniel antwortete vor dem König und sprach: Das Geheimnis, das der König gefordert hat, vermögen Weise, Wahrsager, Magier und Sterndeuter dem König nicht anzuzeigen.

Daniel answered in the presence of the king and said, The secret that the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the magicians, the scribes, the astrologers, shew unto the king;

28 Jedoch ist ein Gott in den Himmeln, Der Geheimnisse offenbart, und ließ den König Nebuchadnezzar wissen, was in den letzten der Tage sein wird. Dein Traum und das Gesicht deines Hauptes auf deinem Lager ist dies:

but there is a God in the heavens, who revealeth secrets, and maketh known to king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be at the end of days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed are these:

29 Du, König, warst mit deinen Gedanken auf deinem Lager; sie gingen dahin, was wohl hernach sein werde? Und Der da offenbart Geheimnisse, tat dir kund, was da sein wird.

— as for thee, O king, thy thoughts arose upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth secrets hath made known to thee what shall come to pass.

30 Und mir ist nicht durch eine Weisheit, die in mir wäre vor allen, die da leben, dies Geheimnis geoffenbart worden, sondern damit sie die Deutung dem König kundtun möchten und du die Gedanken deines Herzens wissest.

And as for me, this secret is revealed to me, not by [any] wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation should be made known to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

31 Du, König, schautest und siehe, ein gewaltig Standbild war da, dies Standbild war groß und sein Glanz über die Maßen, und stand dir gegenüber, und war schauerlich anzusehen.

Thou, O king, sawest, and behold, a great image. This image was mighty and its brightness excellent; it stood before thee, and its appearance was terrible.

32 Das Haupt dieses Standbildes war von gutem Gold, seine Brust und seine Arme von Silber, sein Bauch und seine Hüften von Erz.

This image's head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

33 Seine Schenkel von Eisen, seine Füße waren teils von Eisen und teils von Ton.

its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.

34 Solches schautest du, bis daß ein Stein ausgehauen ward, nicht durch Hände, und stieß das Standbild an seine Füße, die Eisen und Ton waren, und zermalmte sie.

Thou sawest till a stone was cut out without hands; and it smote the image upon its feet of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.

35 Da wurden mit einem Mal das Eisen, der Ton, das Erz, das Silber und das Gold zermalmt, und sie wurden wie Spreu von den Tennen des Sommers, und der Wind nahm sie weg, so daß man ihre Stätte nicht mehr ausfand, und der Stein, der an das Standbild stieß, ward zu einen großen Felsen, und füllte die ganze Erde.

Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold broken in pieces together, and they became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, and no place was found for them. And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

36 Dies ist der Traum, und seine Deutung wollen wir vor dem Könige sagen.

This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation of it before the king.

37 Du, o König, bist der König der Könige, dem der Gott der Himmel das Königtum, die Gewalt und die Stärke und Herrlichkeit gegeben hat.

Thou, O king, art a king of kings, unto whom the God of the heavens hath given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory;

38 Und überall, da Menschensöhne verweilen, das wilde Tier des Feldes und das Gevögel der Himmel hat Er in deine Hand gegeben und dich schalten lassen über sie alle: du bist das Haupt von Gold.

and wheresoever the children of men, the beasts of the field, and the fowl of the heavens dwell, he hath given them into thy hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all: thou art this head of gold.

39 Und nach dir ersteht ein anderes Reich, niedriger denn das deine, und ein anderes drittes Reich von Erz, das auf der ganzen Erde schalten wird.

And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee; then another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

40 Und das vierte Reich wird stark sein wie das Eisen, alldieweil das Eisen alles zermalmt und zerschlägt, und wie das Eisen, das zerschmettert all dies, wird es zermalmen und zerschmettern.

And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth everything, and as iron that breaketh all these, so shall it break in pieces and bruise.

41 Und da du schautest die Füße und die Zehen teils vom Ton des Töpfers und teils von Eisen, so wird es ein zerteiltes Reich sein, und von der Beständigkeit des Eisens wird darinnen sein, alldieweil du erschautest, daß Eisen mit dem schlammigen Ton vermengt war,

And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potter's clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

42 Und da die Zehen der Füße teils von Eisen und teils von Ton waren, so wird das Reich teilweise stark, und teilweise gebrechlich sein.

And [as] the toes of the feet were part of iron and part of clay, the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.

43 Und weil du erschautest das Eisen mit schlammigem Ton vermengt, so werden sie durch Samen des Menschen sich vermengen, aber nicht kleben das eine an dem anderen, so wie Eisen sich nicht mit Ton vermengen läßt.

And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron doth not mingle with clay.

44 Und in den Tagen dieser Könige wird der Gott der Himmel ein Königreich aufrichten, das in Ewigkeiten nicht umgestoßen, und dessen Königtum keinem anderen Volk überlassen werden wird. Es wird zermalmen und wegraffen alle jene Königreiche, es wird aber bestehen in Ewigkeit.

And in the days of these kings shall the God of the heavens set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the sovereignty thereof shall not be left to another people: it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, but itself shall stand for ever.

45 Alldieweil du erschautest, daß ein Stein ausgehauen ward aus dem Felsen nicht durch Hände, und zermalmte das Eisen, das Erz, den Ton, das Silber und das Gold; hat der große Gott den König wissen lassen, was hernach sein wird, und gewiß ist der Traum, und seine Deutung wahrhaftig.

Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold, — the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. And the dream is certain, and the interpretation of it sure.

46 Da fiel der König Nebuchadnezzar auf sein Antlitz, und betete an vor Daniel und befahl, ihm Speiseopfer und Ruheopfer zu spenden.

Then king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

47 Der König antwortete dem Daniel und sprach: Es ist eine Wahrheit, daß euer Gott ist der Gott der Götter, und der Herr der Könige, und Er offenbart Geheimnisse, weil du vermochtest dies Geheimnis zu offenbaren.

The king answered Daniel and said, Of a truth it is that your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, because thou wast able to reveal this secret.

48 Da machte der König Daniel groß und gab ihm viele große Gaben, und ließ ihn schalten über die ganze Landschaft Babel, und machte ihn zum Hauptvorsteher über alle die Weisen Babels.

Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 Und Daniel ersuchte den König, daß er einsetzen sollte über die Verwaltung der Landschaft Babel Schadrach, Meschach und Abed Nego; und Daniel war im Tore des Königs.

And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego over the administration of the province of Babylon. And Daniel was in the gate of the king.
