Apostelgeschichte 27
1 Als nun entschieden ward, daß wir nach Italien schiffen sollten, übergaben sie Paulus und etliche andere Gefangene einem Hauptmann mit Namen Julius, von der kaiserlichen Kohorte.
When it was decided that we would sail to Italy, they transferred Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan Cohort.
2 Wir betraten nun ein adramyttisches Schiff, um die Asien entlang gelegenen Orte zu befahren, und segelten ab; auch war mit uns Aristarchus aus Thessalonich in Mazedonien.
We got on board a ship of Adramyttium and put out to sea, intending to sail by the ports along the coast of Asia. With us was Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica.
3 Am anderen Tag liefen wir zu Sidon ein, und Julius war freundlich gegen Paulus und erlaubte ihm, zu den Freunden zu gehen und seiner zu pflegen.
The next day we put in at Sidon, and Julius treated Paul kindly, allowing him to go to his friends and receive care.
4 Und von dannen stießen wir ab und schifften unter Zypern hin, weil uns die Winde entgegen waren.
From there we put out to sea and sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were against us.
5 Und durchschifften das Meer von Cilicien und Pamphylien und kamen gen Myra in Lycien.
After sailing across the open sea off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we arrived at Myra of Lycia.
6 Und daselbst fand der Hauptmann ein Schiff von Alexandrien, das nach Italien fuhr, und lud uns darauf.
There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship that was sailing to Italy and put us on board.
7 Da wir in vielen Tagen nur langsam weiterfuhren, und mit Mühe gen Knidus gekommen waren, da der Wind uns nicht anließ, fuhren wir unter Kreta hin bei Salmone vorbei.
We sailed along slowly for many days and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus. When the wind did not allow us to hold our course, we sailed under the lee of Crete off Salmone.
8 Mit Mühe fuhren wir der Küste entlang und kamen an einen Ort, der Schönhafen hieß, in dessen Nähe die Stadt Lasäa lag.
Sailing along the coast with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, which was near the city of Lasea.
9 Da nun viel Zeit vergangen und es bereits gefährlich war zu schiffen, weil auch schon die Fastenzeit vorüber war, vermahnte sie Paulus und sprach zu ihnen:
Since much time had been lost and the voyage had now become dangerous because the Fast was already over, Paul advised the ship's officers,
10 Ihr Männer, ich sehe, daß die Fahrt nicht nur mit Ungemach und vielem Verlust, sowohl der Ladung als des Schiffes, sondern auch unseres Lebens verbunden sein wird.
“Men, I perceive that this voyage is going to result in damage and great loss, not only of the cargo and of the ship, but also of our lives.”
11 Aber der Hauptmann glaubte dem Steuermann und dem Schiffsherrn mehr, als den Worten des Paulus.
But the centurion was persuaded by the ship's captain and the shipowner rather than by what Paul said.
12 Und da der Hafen zum Wintern ungelegen war, wurden die meisten Rats, von dannen zu fahren, um, wo möglich, nach Phönix, einem Hafen von Kreta gegen Südwest und gegen Nordwest, zu gelangen, um dort zu überwintern.
Because the harbor was not a suitable place for spending the winter, the majority made a decision to set sail from there also, hoping to somehow reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete facing southwest and northwest, so that we could spend the winter there.
13 Da aber gelinder Südwind eingetreten war, glaubten sie ihres Vorsatzes Herr geworden zu sein, lichteten die Anker und fuhren näher an Kretas Küste hin.
When a south wind started blowing gently, they thought that the opportunity had come for them to carry out their plan. So they weighed anchor and sailed closely along the shore of Crete.
14 Es dauerte aber nicht lange, da stieß ein Sturmwind, den sie Euroklydon nennen, gegen die Insel.
But before long, a hurricane-force wind called Euroclydon swept down from the island.
15 Als aber das Schiff mit fortgerissen ward und dem Wind nicht widerstehen konnte, gaben wir uns preis und fuhren dahin.
When the ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along.
16 Wir liefen aber gegen eine kleine Insel, mit Namen Klauda, und konnten kaum des Bootes mächtig werden.
Running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we were able with difficulty to secure the skiff.
17 Da sie es aufgehoben hatten, wandten sie Schutzmittel an und untergürteten das Schiff; und weil sie fürchteten, auf die Syrte verschlagen zu werden, strichen sie die Segel und trieben so dahin.
After hoisting it up, the sailors used supports to undergird the ship. Then, fearing they might run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the gear, and in this manner the ship was driven along.
18 Da wir aber vom Sturm hin und her geworfen wurden, warfen sie am folgenden Tag einen Teil der Ladung über Bord.
The next day, because we were being severely battered by the storm, the sailors began throwing the cargo overboard.
19 Und am dritten Tag warfen wir mit eigenen Händen die Schiffsgerätschaft aus.
On the third day we threw the ship's tackle overboard with our own hands.
20 Da aber mehrere Tage weder Sonne noch Gestirn zu sehen war und ein gewaltiger Sturm wütete, verschwand vollends alle Hoffnung auf Rettung.
When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and the violent storm continued to rage, all hope that we might be saved was lost.
21 Da man lange nichts gegessen hatte, trat Paulus ins Mittel und sprach: Männer, man hätte mir folgen und nicht von Kreta abfahren sollen, was uns dieses Ungemachs und Verlustes überhoben hätte.
Since there had been little desire to eat, Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, you should have listened to my advice not to set sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss.
22 Und nun ermahne ich euch, getrosten Muts zu sein; wir werden kein Leben, nur das Schiff verlieren.
But now I advise you to be of good cheer, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.
23 Heute Nacht erschien mir ein Engel des Gottes, Dem ich angehöre und Dem ich auch diene, und sprach.
For this very night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me
24 Fürchte dich nicht, Paulus, du mußt vor den Kaiser treten; und siehe, Gott hat dir alle geschenkt, die mit dir zu Schiffe sind.
and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; yoʋ must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted yoʋ the safety of all who are sailing with yoʋ.’
25 Darum seid guten Mutes, Männer, denn ich vertraue dem Gott, daß es also geschehen wird, wie mir gesagt ist.
Therefore be of good cheer, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as I have been told.
26 Wir müssen aber an eine Insel auffahren.
But we must run aground on some island.”
27 Da aber die vierzehnte Nacht kam und wir im adriatischen Meere umhertrieben, meinten die Schiffsleute um die Mitternacht, daß sie an ein Land kommen.
When the fourteenth night had come, as we were being driven across the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors suspected that they were approaching some land.
28 Und da sie das Senkblei auswarfen, fanden sie zwanzig Klafter, und als sie eine Strecke weiterfuhren und wieder auswarfen, fanden sie fünfzehn Klafter Tiefe.
So they took a sounding and found it to be twenty fathoms. After going a little farther, they took another sounding and found it to be fifteen fathoms.
29 Weil sie nun fürchteten, auf Felsenriffe zu geraten, warfen sie vom Hinterteil des Schiffes vier Anker aus, und wünschten, daß es Tag werden möchte.
Fearing that we might run aground on the rocks, they let down four anchors from the stern and prayed for daybreak to come.
30 Da die Schiffleute aber aus dem Schiff zu entfliehen suchten, und unter dem Vorwand, sie wollten vom Vorderschiff Anker auswerfen, das Boot ins Meer niederließen;
Then the sailors tried to escape from the ship by lowering the skiff into the sea under the pretense that they were going to lay out anchors from the bow.
31 Sprach Paulus zu dem Hauptmann und den Kriegsleuten: Wenn diese nicht im Schiff bleiben, so könnt ihr nicht gerettet werden.
So Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “If these men do not remain in the ship you cannot be saved.”
32 Da hieben die Kriegsleute die Taue des Bootes ab und ließen es fallen.
Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the skiff and let it drift away.
33 Bis es nun Tag wurde, forderte Paulus alle auf, Speise zu sich zu nehmen, und sagte: Vierzehn Tage lang habt ihr ungegessen zugewartet und nichts zu euch genommen.
When daybreak was about to come, Paul encouraged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you have continued in suspense without eating, having taken nothing.
34 Deshalb ermahne ich euch, Speise zu euch zu nehmen; denn dies trägt zu eurer Erhaltung bei, denn kein Haar von eurem Haupte wird verlorengehen.
Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is important for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any one of you.”
35 Da er solches gesprochen, nahm er Brot, dankte Gott im Angesichte aller, brach es und fing an zu essen.
After saying this, Paul took some bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat.
36 Da faßten sie alle Mut und nahmen auch Speise zu sich.
They were all encouraged and took food themselves.
37 Unser waren aber auf dem Schiff zweihundertsechsundsiebzig Seelen.
(Altogether there were two hundred seventy-six of us on the ship.)
38 Da sie nun satt waren, erleichterten sie das Schiff und warfen den Mundvorrat ins Meer.
When they had eaten their fill of food, they began to lighten the ship by throwing the wheat out into the sea.
39 Da es nun Tag ward, erkannten sie das Land nicht, wurden aber eines Busens gewahr, der ein flaches Ufer hatte, auf das sie das Schiff wo möglich antreiben wollten.
When daybreak came, the sailors did not recognize the land. But they noticed a bay with a beach and decided that, if possible, they would run the ship ashore there.
40 Und so kappten sie die Anker und ließen sie im Meer, indem sie zugleich die Bande der Steuerruder lösten, das Braamsegel spannten, und fuhren dem Strande zu.
So they cut away the anchors and left them in the sea, at the same time loosening the bands of the rudders. Then they hoisted the foresail up into the blowing wind and made for the beach.
41 Sie gerieten aber auf einen Ort, der auf zwei Seiten Meer hatte, und stießen das Schiff auf, so daß das Vorderteil unbeweglich aufsaß, das Hinterteil aber von der Gewalt der Fluten auseinanderging.
But they struck a sandbar and ran the ship aground. The bow stuck fast and remained immovable, and the stern was being broken apart by the force of the waves.
42 Die Kriegsleute faßten nun den Entschluß, die Gefangenen zu töten, damit keiner durch Schwimmen entkäme.
The soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, so that none of them would swim away and escape.
43 Der Hauptmann aber wollte Paulus retten, und verhinderte sie an ihrem Vorhaben, und hieß die, so schwimmen könnten, zuerst sich ins Wasser werfen, um an das Land zu kommen.
But the centurion, wishing to save Paul's life, kept them from carrying out their plan. So he ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land,
44 Die anderen sollten auf Brettern oder auf anderen Stücken des Schiffes das gleiche tun; und so geschah es, daß alle glücklich das Land erreichten.
and the rest were to follow, some on planks and some on pieces of the ship. And so it was that they were all brought safely to land.
