3 Johannes 1
1 Der Älteste an den geliebten Gajus, den ich liebe in Wahrheit.
The elder, to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Geliebter, ich wünsche, daß es dir in allen Stücken wohl gehe, und du gesund seiest wie es deiner Seele wohl ergeht.
Dear one, I pray for you to prosper in every way and to be healthy, just as your soul prospers.
3 Es freute mich sehr, als Brüder kamen und deiner Wahrhaftigkeit Zeugnis gaben, wie du denn in der Wahrheit wandelst.
Because it gave me great joy when some brothers came and testified to the truth about you, how you are walking in Truth.
4 Ich habe keine größere Freude denn die, daß ich höre, wie meine Kinder in der Wahrheit wandeln.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in Truth.
5 Geliebter, du handelst treulich in dem, was du an den Brüdern, und zumal an denen tust, die aus der Ferne kommen,
Dear one, you are faithful in whatever you do for the brothers, and for the strangers
6 Und die von deiner Liebe vor der Gemeinde Zeugnis gaben, und du wirst wohl tun, wenn du ihnen auf eine Gottes würdige Weise forthilfst.
who testified to your love before the church—you will do well by sending them on their way in a manner worthy of God,
7 Denn um Seines Namens willen sind sie ausgegangen und haben von den Heiden nichts genommen.
because it was for the sake of the Name that they went out, accepting nothing from pagans.
8 So gebührt es uns denn, solche aufzunehmen, auf daß wir der Wahrheit Vorschub tun.
We therefore ought to welcome such, so that we may work together for the Truth.
9 Ich schrieb an die Gemeinde, aber Diotrephes, der unter ihnen will der Erste sein, nimmt uns nicht an.
I wrote to the congregation, but Diotrephes, who wants to dominate the others, does not acknowledge us.
10 Darum, wenn ich komme, will ich ihn vermahnen ob seinen Werken, die er tut, indem er übel von uns spricht, und es nicht dabei bewenden läßt, und die Brüder nicht annimmt, und die, so es tun wollen, aus der Gemeinde stößt.
So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, slandering us with malignant words. And not satisfied with that, not only does he himself not receive the brothers, but he forbids those who want to do so, kicking them out of the congregation.
11 Geliebter, folge nicht dem Bösen nach, sondern dem Guten. Wer Gutes tut, ist aus Gott, wer Böses tut, hat Gott nicht geschaut.
Dear one, do not imitate what is bad, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.
12 Demetrius hat von jedermann ein gutes Zeugnis, und von der Wahrheit selbst, und auch wir zeugen
Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone—even by the truth itself. Yes, we also speak well of him, and we know that our testimony is true.
13 Ich hätte dir noch viel zu schreiben, allein ich will es nicht mit Tinte und Feder tun.
I had many things to write, but I do not wish to write to you with pen and ink;
14 Ich hoffe, dich bald zu sehen, und dann wollen wir es mündlich besprechen. Friede sei mit dir! Es grüßen dich die Freunde. Grüße die Freunde, jeden mit Namen.
