1 Timotheus 6

1 Die Knechte, die unter dem Joch sind, sollen ihre Herren aller Ehre wert erachten, auf daß nicht der Name Gottes und die Lehre verlästert werden.

Let as many as are slaves under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine not be blasphemed.

2 Die aber gläubige Herren haben, sollen dieselben nicht verachten, weil sie Brüder sind, sondern um so mehr dienstwillig sein, weil sie gläubig und geliebt und der Gnade teilhaftig sind. Solches lehre und ermahne dazu.

Those who have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brothers, but rather let them serve them, because those who partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. Teach and exhort these things.

3 So jemand anders lehrt und bleibt nicht bei den heilsamen Worten unseres Herrn Jesus Christus und bei der Lehre der Gottseligkeit,

If anyone teaches a different doctrine, and does not consent to sound words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness,

4 Der ist verblendet und weiß nichts, sondern siecht an Streitfragen und Wortkämpfen, aus denen entspringt Neid, Streitsucht, Lästerung, böser Argwohn,

he is conceited, knowing nothing, but obsessed with arguments, disputes, and word battles, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,

5 Unnütze Wortzänkereien von Menschen, deren Verstand verschroben und der Wahrheit verschlossen ist, die da meinen, Gottseligkeit sei ein Gewerbe. Halte dich ferne von ihnen.

constant friction of people of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.

6 Es ist aber ein großer Gewinn um die Gottseligkeit, die sich genügen läßt.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 Denn wir haben nichts in die Welt gebracht, und offenbar ist, daß wir auch nichts mit hinausnehmen können.

For we brought nothing into the world, so neither can we carry anything out.

8 Wenn wir aber Nahrung und Kleidung haben, so lasset uns daran begnügen.

But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.

9 Die da reich werden wollen, fallen in Versuchung und Stricke und viel törichte und schädliche Lüste, welche die Menschen ins Elend und Verderben stürzen,

But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as plunge people into ruin and destruction.

10 Denn Geiz ist eine Wurzel alles Übels; diejenigen, die geldgierig und vom Glauben irre gegangen sind, haben sich selbst viele Schmerzen bereitet.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 Aber du, Gottesmensch, fliehe solches, jage nach der Gerechtigkeit, der Gottseligkeit, dem Glauben, der Liebe, der Beharrlichkeit, der Sanftmut.

But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.

12 Kämpfe den guten Kampf des Glaubens, erfasse das ewige Leben, für das du berufen bist und bekannt hast das gute Bekenntnis vor vielen Zeugen. (aiōnios g166)

Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold of the everlasting life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses. (aiōnios g166)

13 Ich gebiete dir vor Gott, Der alles lebendig macht, und vor Jesus Christus, Der vor Pontius Pilatus das gute Bekenntnis bezeugt hat,

I command you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate testified the good confession,

14 Daß du haltest das Gebot unbefleckt, untadelhaft bis auf die Erscheinung unseres Herrn Jesus Christus;

that you keep the commandment without spot, blameless, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ;

15 Welche zu Seiner Zeit zeigen wird der selige und alleinige Gewalthaber, der König der Könige und der Herr der Herren.

which in its own times he will show, who is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

16 Der allein Unsterblichkeit hat, Der in unzugänglichem Lichte wohnt, Den kein Mensch gesehen hat, noch sehen kann, Ihm sei Ehre und ewige Herrschaft! Amen. (aiōnios g166)

who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no human has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen. (aiōnios g166)

17 Den Reichen dieser Welt gebiete nicht hochmütig zu sein, noch Hoffnung zu setzen auf den unsicheren Reichtum, sondern auf den lebendigen Gott, Der uns alles reichlich zum Genusse darbietet; (aiōn g165)

Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy; (aiōn g165)

18 Daß sie Gutes tun, reich werden an guten Werken, freigebig, mitteilsam seien,

that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

19 Und sich Schätze sammeln als guten Grund für die Zukunft, auf daß sie das wahre Leben erfassen.

laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold of that which is truly life.

20 O Timotheus, bewahre, was dir anvertraut ist, und mache dir nichts zu schaffen mit den gottlosen, leeren Reden und Streitfragen der fälschlich sogenannten Wissenschaft,

Timothy, guard that which is committed to you, turning away from the empty chatter and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called;

21 Die etliche vorgeben und vom Glauben abgewichen sind. Die Gnade sei mit euch! Amen.

which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you.
