1 Timotheus 1

1 Paulus, ein Apostel Jesu Christi, auf Befehl Gottes unseres Heilandes und Christus Jesus, Der unsere Hoffnung ist.

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, through the command of God, our Saviour, and Christ Jesus, our hope,

2 An Timotheus den rechtschaffenen Sohn im Glauben: Gnade, Barmherzigkeit, Friede von Gott unserem Vater und Jesus Christus unserem Herrn!

to Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 Wie ich dich ermahnt habe, in Ephesus zu bleiben, da ich auf der Reise nach Mazedonien war, um gewissen Leuten zu verwehren, daß sie nicht afterlehren,

As I besought thee, when I set out for Macedonia, to remain still in Ephesus, that thou mightst charge certain persons not to teach other doctrine,

4 Auch nicht Acht hätten auf Fabeln und auf Geschlechtsregister, die kein Ende haben und mehr zu Streitigkeiten führen als zu göttlicher Erbauung im Glauben.

nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which occasion disputes rather than promote God's dispensation which is in faith, [[so I do now.]]

5 Der Endzweck der Lehre ist ja: Liebe aus reinem Herzen und gutem Gewissen und ungeheucheltem Glauben;

Now the end of the commandment is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned;

6 Wovon einige abgewichen sind, und zu unnützem Geschwätz sich gewendet haben;

from which some swerving turned aside to vain babbling,

7 Wollen der Schrift Meister sein und verstehen nicht was sie sagen oder aufstellen.

desiring to be teachers of the Law, understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

8 Wir wissen aber, daß das Gesetz gut ist, wenn es einer gesetzmäßig anwendet.

But we know that the Law is good, if a man use it lawfully,

9 Und so viel weiß ich, daß für den Gerechten kein Gesetz gegeben ist, sondern für die Ungerechten und Ordnungsfeinde, für Gottlose und Sünder, Unheilige und Ungeistliche, für Vater- und Muttermörder, Totschläger.

knowing this, that the Law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man-slayers,

10 Für Hurer, Knabenschänder, Menschendiebe, Lügner, Meineidige und was sonst der gesunden Lehre zuwider läuft.

for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for men-stealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to the sound teaching,

11 Nach dem Evangelium der Herrlichkeit des seligen Gottes, das mir anvertraut worden ist.

according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.

12 Und ich danke Dem, Der mir die Kraft dazu gegeben, unserem Herrn Jesus Christus, daß Er mich für treu erachtet und mich ins Amt gesetzt hat,

And I thank him who gave me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, that he accounted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, t

13 Mich, der ich vorher ein Lästerer, Verfolger und Schmäher war, aber ich fand Erbarmen, weil ich es unwissend im Unglauben tat.

though formerly I was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and a doer of outrage; but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly, in unbelief;

14 Aber die Gnade unseres Herrn mit dem Glauben und der Liebe in Jesus Christus war um so überschwenglicher.

and the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

15 Das ist ja gewißlich wahr und ein teuer, wertes Wort, daß Jesus Christus in die Welt gekommen ist, die Sünder selig zu machen, unter denen ich der vornehmste bin.

True is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

16 Aber darum ist mir Barmherzigkeit widerfahren, daß an mir zuerst Jesus Christus erzeigte Seine Langmut, zum Vorbild denen, die an Ihn glauben würden zum ewigen Leben. (aiōnios g166)

But for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me especially Christ Jesus might show forth all his long-suffering, as an example to those who should hereafter believe in him to life everlasting. (aiōnios g166)

17 Aber dem König der Ewigkeiten, dem unvergänglichen, unsichtbaren, alleinigen Gott sei Ehre und Herrlichkeit von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Amen. (aiōn g165)

Now to the King eternal, the imperishable, invisible, only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)

18 Dies Gebot empfehle ich dir, mein Sohn Timotheus, nach den vorausgegangen Prophezeiungen über dich, daß du in denselben kämpfest den guten Kampf,

This charge I commit to thee, my child Timothy, in accordance with the directions of the prophets before given to thee, that thou mayst in them war the good warfare,

19 Und habest einen guten Glauben, und ein gut Gewissen, welches gewisse Leute von sich gestoßen und am Glauben Schiffbruch gelitten haben,

having faith, and a good conscience, which some thrusting away made shipwreck concerning the faith;

20 Unter denen ist Hymenäus und Alexander, die ich dem Satan übergeben habe, auf daß sie gezüchtigt würden, nicht mehr zu lästern.

of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
