1 Korinther 14

1 Jaget der Liebe nach! Befleißigt euch der Geistesgaben, vornehmlich aber, daß ihr weissagt;

Follow after divine love; and seek the spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy.

2 Denn der in Zungen redet, der redet nicht zu Menschen, sondern zu Gott; denn niemand versteht es, und er redet im Geiste Geheimnisse.

For the one speaking with a tongue speaks not to men, but to God; for no one hears him; but he speaks mysteries in the spirit:

3 Wer aber weissagt, der redet zu den Menschen zur Erbauung, zur Ermahnung und zur Tröstung.

but the one prophesying speaks to men edification, exhortation, and comfort.

4 Wer in Zungen redet, erbaut sich selbst; wer aber weissagt, erbaut die Gemeinde.

The one speaking with a tongue edifies himself; but the one prophesying edifies the church.

5 Ich wollte, daß ihr alle in Zungen redetet, mehr aber noch, daß ihr weissagtet; denn größer ist, der da weissagt, denn der da in Zungen redet, es sei denn, daß er es auch auslege, auf daß die Gemeinde davon erbaut werde.

But I wish you all to speak with tongues, but rather that you may prophesy: but greater is the one prophesying, than the one speaking with tongues, unless he may interpret, in order that the church may receive edification.

6 Nun aber, Brüder, wenn ich zu euch käme und in Zungen redete, was würde ich euch nützen, wofern ich nicht zu euch redete in Offenbarung oder in Erkenntnis oder Weissagung oder durch Lehre?

But now, brethren, if I may come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I shall speak to you either in revelation, or knowledge, or prophecy, or in instruction?

7 Verhält es sich doch so schon bei leblosen Dingen, die einen Ton von sich geben; wenn die Töne sich nicht unterscheiden, wie kann man wissen, was geflötet oder aufgespielt wird.

Nevertheless things without life, giving forth a voice, whether pipe or harp, if it may not give a distinction to the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped, or what is harped?

8 Wenn die Trompete einen unbestimmten Ton gibt, wer wird sich zum Streit rüsten?

For if indeed the trumpet may give an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for the war?

9 So auch ihr, wenn ihr mit Zungen redet und keine verständliche Rede von euch gebt, wie kann man verstehen, was geredet wird? Ihr redet in den Wind.

Thus also if you through the tongue may give an indistinct word, how will that which is spoken be known? for you will be speaking into the air.

10 Es gibt, meine ich, so verschiedene Arten von Sprachen in der Welt, und keine derselben ist unverständlich.

If it so happens that there are so many kinds of voices in the world, and nothing without a voice;

11 So ich nun nicht die Bedeutung der Sprache verstehe, so bin ich dem Redenden ein Barbar, und der da redet, ist in meinem Sinn ein Barbar.

if then I do not understand the power of the voice, I will be a barbarian to the one speaking, and the one speaking will be a barbarian to me.

12 Also auch ihr, weil ihr euch fleißigt der geistigen Gaben, strebt danach, daß ihr reich seid zur Erbauung der Gemeinde.

So also you, since you are zealots of spirits, seek that you may abound unto the edification of the church.

13 Darum, wer in Zungen redet, der bete, daß er es auszulegen vermöge.

Therefore let the one speaking with a tongue, pray that one may interpret.

14 Denn wenn ich in Zungen bete, so betet mein Geist, mein Verstand aber bleibt unfruchtbar.

For if I pray with a tongue, my spirit is praying, but my mind is not fruitful.

15 Was folgt nun? Ich werde beten im Geist, werde aber auch beten mit dem Verstand. Ich werde lobsingen im Geist, werde aber auch mit dem Verstand lobsingen.

Then what is it? I will pray with my spirit, and I will pray with my mind also: I will sing with my spirit, and I will sing with my mind also.

16 Denn wenn du im Geiste danksagst, wie kann der, so an der Stelle des Laien sitzt, zu deiner Danksagung sein Amen sprechen? Er weiß ja nicht, was du sagst.

Since if you may bless with the spirit, how will one occupying the place of the unlearned say Amen to your blessing? since he does not know what you are saying.

17 Du magst wohl recht schön danksagen; aber der andere wird davon nicht erbaut.

For you indeed bless beautifully, but the other is not edified.

18 Ich danke meinem Gott, daß ich mehr als ihr alle in Zungen rede.

I thank God, I speak with tongue more than you all:

19 Aber in der Gemeinde will ich lieber fünf Worte mit meinem Verstand reden, auf daß ich auch andere unterweise, als zehntausend Worte in Zungen.

but I would rather speak five words in the church with my understanding, so that I may indeed teach others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

20 Brüder, werdet nicht Kinder an eurem Verstand, sondern seid kindlich gegen das Böse, am Verstande aber werdet reif.

Brethren, be not children in intellect: but be infants in evil, but be perfect in intellect.

21 Im Gesetz steht geschrieben: Ich werde in fremden Zungen und in fremden Lippen zu diesem Volk sprechen, und nicht einmal so werden sie auf mich hören, spricht der Herr.

It has been written in the law; I will speak to this people with other tongues and with the lips of others; and thus they will not hearken unto me, says the Lord.

22 Darum sind die Zungen zum Zeichen, nicht den Gläubigen, sondern den Ungläubigen; die Weissagung aber nicht für die Ungläubigen, sondern für die Gläubigen.

So tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelievers: and prophecy is not for the unbelievers, but for the believers.

23 Wenn nun die ganze Gemeinde zusammenkäme und alle redeten in Zungen, es kämen aber Laien oder Ungläubige hinzu, würden sie da nicht sagen; daß ihr von Sinnen seid?

Then if the whole church may come together, and all may speak with tongues, and the unlearned or unbelievers may come in, will they not say that you are gone mad?

24 So aber alle weissageten, und es käme ein Ungläubiger oder Laie hinzu, so würde er von allen gerügt und von allen gerichtet.

But if all may prophesy, and some unbeliever or unlearned person may come in, he is convicted by all, he is discerned by all;

25 Und so würde das Verborgene seines Herzens offenbar, und er auf sein Angesicht niederfallen und vor Gott anbeten, und bekennen, daß in Wahrheit Gott in euch ist.

the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and thus falling upon his face he will worship God, proclaiming that God is truly in you.

26 Wie ist es denn nun, Brüder? Wenn ihr zusammenkommt, so hat jeder von euch einen Psalm, eine Lehre, eine Zunge, eine Offenbarung, eine Auslegung; lasset alles dies zur Erbauung dienen.

Then what is it, brethren? When you may come together, each one has a psalm, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to edification.

27 Wenn einer in Zungen redet, so mögen je zwei oder höchstens drei nacheinander reden; einer lege aus.

If one speaks with a tongue, let it he by twos, or at most by threes, and separately; and let one interpret;

28 Ist aber kein Ausleger da, so schweige jener in der Gemeinde. Er rede zu sich und zu Gott.

but if there may be no interpreter, let him keep silent in the church; but let him speak to himself, and to God.

29 Weissager aber sollen zwei oder drei reden, und die anderen sollen urteilen.

But let two or three prophets speak, and let the others give audience;

30 So aber einem anderen, der da sitzt, eine Offenbarung wird, so schweige der erste.

but if something may be revealed to another sitting down, let the first be silent.

31 Denn ihr könnt alle nacheinander weissagen, auf daß alle lernen und alle ermahnt werden.

For you are all able to prophesy one by one, in order that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

32 Die Geister der Propheten sind den Propheten untertan.

Truly the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets;

33 Denn Gott ist nicht ein Gott der Unordnung, sondern des Friedens.

for he is not a God of confusion, but of peace. So in all the churches of the saints,

34 Wie in allen Gemeinden der Heiligen, sollen eure Weiber schweigen; denn es ist ihnen nicht verstattet, zu reden. Sie sollen untertan sein, wie auch das Gesetz sagt.

let the women be silent in the churches: for it is not permitted to them to talk; but let them be subordinate, as the law also says.

35 Wollen sie Belehrung haben, so mögen sie ihre Männer zu Hause fragen; denn es ziemt sich nicht für Weiber, in der Versammlung zu sprechen.

But if they wish to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home: for it is disgraceful for a woman to talk in church.

36 Oder ist von euch das Wort Gottes ausgegangen, oder ist es allein zu euch gelangt?

Whether did the word of God come out from you? or has it reached unto you alone?

37 So einer unter euch glaubt, ein Prophet zu sein oder geistige Gaben zu besitzen, der erkenne, was ich euch schreibe, denn es sind des Herrn Gebote.

If any one seems to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him understand the things which I write to you, that they are of the Lord;

38 Wer es nicht einsehen will, der sehe es nicht ein!

but if any one ignores, he is ignored.

39 Darum, meine Brüder, befleißigt euch der Weissagung und wehret nicht, in Zungen zu reden.

So, my brethren, be zealous to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues;

40 Lasset aber alles wohlanständig und ordentlich zugehen.

but let all things be done decently and in order.
