Roemers 12
1 Ich ermahne euch nun, ihr Brüder, kraft der Barmherzigkeit Gottes, daß ihr eure Leiber darbringet als ein lebendiges, heiliges, Gott wohlgefälliges Opfer: das sei euer vernünftiger Gottesdienst!
So I encourage you, my brothers and sisters, because of God's compassion for you, to dedicate your bodies as a living offering that is holy and pleasing to God. This is the logical way to worship.
2 Und passet euch nicht diesem Weltlauf an, sondern verändert euer Wesen durch die Erneuerung eures Sinnes, um prüfen zu können, was der Wille Gottes sei, der gute und wohlgefällige und vollkommene. (aiōn g165)
Don't follow the ways of this world; instead be transformed by the spiritual renewal of your mind so you can demonstrate what God's will really is—good, pleasing, and perfect. (aiōn g165)
3 Denn ich sage kraft der Gnade, die mir gegeben ist, einem jeden unter euch, daß er nicht höher von sich denke, als sich zu denken gebührt, sondern daß er auf Bescheidenheit bedacht sei, wie Gott einem jeden das Maß des Glaubens zugeteilt hat.
Let me explain to all of you, through the grace given to me, that no one should think of themselves better than they ought to. You should think about yourselves realistically, according to the degree of trust God has shared with you.
4 Denn gleichwie wir an einem Leibe viele Glieder besitzen, nicht alle Glieder aber dieselbe Verrichtung haben,
Just as there are many parts to the body, but they don't all do the same thing,
5 so sind auch wir, die vielen, ein Leib in Christus, als einzelne aber untereinander Glieder.
so we are one body in Christ, even though we are many—and we all belong to one another.
6 Wenn wir aber auch verschiedene Gaben haben nach der uns verliehenen Gnade, zum Beispiel Weissagung, so stimmen sie doch mit dem Glauben überein!
We each have different gifts that vary according to the grace given to us. So if it's speaking for God, then you should do so depending on how much you trust in God.
7 Wenn einer dient, [sei es so] in dem Dienst; wenn einer lehrt, in der Lehre;
If it's the ministry of service then you should serve; if teaching then you should teach;
8 wenn einer ermahnt, in der Ermahnung. Wer gibt, gebe in Einfalt; wer vorsteht, tue es mit Fleiß; wer Barmherzigkeit übt, mit Freudigkeit!
if encouragement then you should encourage; if giving then you should give generously; if leadership then you should lead with commitment; if being merciful then you should do so gladly.
9 Die Liebe sei ungeheuchelt! Hasset das Böse, hanget dem Guten an!
Love must be genuine. Hate what is evil; hold on tightly to what is good.
10 In der Bruderliebe seid gegeneinander herzlich, in der Ehrerbietung komme einer dem andern zuvor!
Be completely dedicated to each other in your love as family; value others more than yourselves.
11 Im Fleiß lasset nicht nach, seid brennend im Geist, dienet dem Herrn!
Don't be unwilling to work hard; serve the Lord with an enthusiastic spirit.
12 Seid fröhlich in Hoffnung, in Trübsal haltet stand, seid beharrlich im Gebet!
Remain cheerful in the hope you have, put up with the troubles that come, keep on praying.
13 Nehmet Anteil an den Nöten der Heiligen, befleißiget euch der Gastfreundschaft!
Share in providing for the needs of God's people, and welcome strangers with hospitality.
14 Segnet die euch verfolgen, segnet und fluchet nicht!
Bless those who persecute you—bless them, and don't curse them.
15 Freuet euch mit den Fröhlichen und weinet mit den Weinenden!
Be happy with those who are happy; cry with those who are crying.
16 Seid gleichgesinnt gegeneinander; trachtet nicht nach hohen Dingen, sondern haltet euch herunter zu den Niedrigen; haltet euch nicht selbst für klug!
Think about one another. Don't consider yourself more important than others; live humbly. Don't be conceited.
17 Vergeltet niemandem Böses mit Bösem! Befleißiget euch dessen, was in aller Menschen Augen edel ist!
Don't pay back anyone evil for evil. Make sure you show everybody that what you're doing is good,
18 Ist es möglich, soviel an euch liegt, so habt mit allen Menschen Frieden.
and as far as it's up to you, live at peace with everyone.
19 Rächet euch nicht selbst, ihr Lieben, sondern gebet Raum dem Zorne [Gottes]; denn es steht geschrieben: «Die Rache ist mein, ich will vergelten, spricht der Herr.»
My dear friends, don't seek revenge, but leave it to God to execute judgment—as Scripture points out, “‘It's for me to dispense justice, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
20 Wenn nun deinen Feind hungert, so speise ihn; dürstet ihn, so tränke ihn! Wenn du das tust, wirst du feurige Kohlen auf sein Haupt sammeln.
If those who hate you are hungry, give them food; if they're thirsty, give them a drink; for by doing so you pile fiery coals on their heads.
21 Laß dich nicht vom Bösen überwinden, sondern überwinde das Böse mit Gutem!
Don't be defeated by evil—conquer evil with good.
