Roemers 11
1 Ich frage nun: Hat etwa Gott sein Volk verstoßen? Das sei ferne! Denn auch ich bin ein Israelit, aus dem Samen Abrahams, aus dem Stamme Benjamin.
I say therefore, did God thrust away his people? May it not happen! For I also am an Israelite from the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 Gott hat sein Volk nicht verstoßen, welches er zuvor ersehen hat! Oder wisset ihr nicht, was die Schrift bei [der Geschichte von] Elia spricht, wie er sich an Gott gegen Israel wendet:
God did not thrust away his people whom he foreknew. Or know ye not what the scripture tells by Elijah? How he encounters God about Israel.
3 «Herr, sie haben deine Propheten getötet und deine Altäre zerstört, und ich bin allein übriggeblieben, und sie trachten mir nach dem Leben!»
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and they have torn down thine altars, and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
4 Aber was sagt ihm die göttliche Antwort? «Ich habe mir siebentausend Mann übrigbleiben lassen, die kein Knie gebeugt haben vor Baal.»
But what does the divine response say to him? I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed a knee to Baal.
5 So ist auch in der jetzigen Zeit ein Rest vorhanden, dank der Gnadenwahl.
So then also at this present time there has become a remnant according to the selection of grace.
6 Wenn aber aus Gnade, so ist es nicht mehr um der Werke willen, sonst würde die Gnade nicht mehr Gnade sein; wenn aber um der Werke willen, so ist es nicht mehr aus Gnade, sonst wäre das Werk nicht mehr Werk.
And if it is by grace, it is no longer from works, otherwise grace becomes no longer grace. But if it is from works it is no longer grace, otherwise work is no longer work.
7 Wie nun? Was Israel sucht, das hat es nicht erlangt; die Auswahl aber hat es erlangt, die übrigen aber wurden verstockt,
What then? What Israel seeks, this it did not obtain. But the chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened,
8 wie geschrieben steht: «Gott hat ihnen einen Geist der Schlafsucht gegeben, Augen, um nicht zu sehen, und Ohren, um nicht zu hören, bis zum heutigen Tag.»
just as it is written that God gave them a spirit of slumber: eyes not to see, and ears not to hear, until this very day.
9 Und David spricht: «Ihr Tisch werde ihnen zur Schlinge und zum Fallstrick und zum Anstoß und zur Vergeltung;
And David says, Let their table become for a snare, and for a trap, and for a stumbling block, and for a retribution to them.
10 ihre Augen sollen verfinstert werden, daß sie nicht sehen, und ihren Rücken beuge allezeit!»
Let their eyes be darkened, not to see, and may thou bow down their back always.
11 Ich frage nun: Sind sie denn darum gestrauchelt, damit sie fallen sollten? Das sei ferne! Sondern durch ihren Fall wurde das Heil den Heiden zuteil, damit sie diesen nacheifern möchten.
I say then, did they stumble so that they would fall? May it not happen! But in their transgression, salvation is to the Gentiles, in order to provoke them to jealousy.
12 Wenn aber ihr Fall der Reichtum der Welt und ihr Verlust der Reichtum der Heiden geworden ist, wieviel mehr ihre volle Zahl!
Now if their transgression is wealth of the world, and their failure is wealth of Gentiles, how much more their fullness?
13 Zu euch, den Heiden, rede ich (da ich nun eben Heidenapostel bin, rühme ich mein Amt,
For I speak to you the Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am indeed an apostle of Gentiles, I enhance my ministry,
14 ob ich nicht etwa meine Volksgenossen zum Nacheifern reizen und etliche von ihnen erretten könnte);
if somehow I may provoke my flesh to jealousy and may save some of them.
15 [darum sage ich: ] Wenn ihre Verwerfung die Versöhnung der Welt geworden ist, was würde ihre Annahme anderes sein, als Leben aus den Toten?
For if the casting away of them is reconciliation of the world, what is the acceptance except life from the dead?
16 Ist aber der Anbruch heilig, so ist es auch der Teig, und ist die Wurzel heilig, so sind es auch die Zweige.
And if the first fruit is holy, the branch is also. And if the root is holy, the branches are also.
17 Wenn aber etliche der Zweige ausgebrochen wurden und du als ein wilder Ölzweig unter sie eingepfropft und der Wurzel und der Fettigkeit des Ölbaums teilhaftig geworden bist,
And if some of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and became a joint partaker of the root of the fatness of the olive tree,
18 so rühme dich nicht wider die Zweige! Rühmst du dich aber, so wisse, daß nicht du die Wurzel trägst, sondern die Wurzel trägt dich!
do not boast against the branches. But if thou boast, thou do not bear the root, but the root thee.
19 Nun sagst du aber: Die Zweige sind ausgebrochen worden, damit ich eingepfropft würde!
Thou will therefore say, Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.
20 Gut! Um ihres Unglaubens willen sind sie ausgebrochen worden; du aber stehst durch den Glauben. Sei nicht stolz, sondern fürchte dich!
Correct! They were broken off for their unbelief, and thou stand by thy faith. Be not high-minded but fear,
21 Denn wenn Gott die natürlichen Zweige nicht verschont hat, so wird er wohl auch dich nicht verschonen.
for if God spared not the natural branches, perhaps neither will he spare thee.
22 So schaue nun die Güte und die Strenge Gottes; die Strenge an denen, die gefallen sind; die Güte aber an dir, sofern du in der Güte bleibst, sonst wirst auch du abgehauen werden!
Behold therefore the goodness and the severity of God. Indeed toward those who fell, severity, but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness, otherwise thou too will be cut off.
23 Jene dagegen, wenn sie nicht im Unglauben verharren, sollen wieder eingepfropft werden; denn Gott vermag sie wohl wieder einzupfropfen.
And also those, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
24 Denn wenn du aus dem von Natur wilden Ölbaum herausgeschnitten und wider die Natur in den edlen Ölbaum eingepfropft worden bist, wieviel eher können diese, die natürlichen Zweige, wieder in ihren eigenen Ölbaum eingepfropft werden!
For if thou were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural ones, be grafted into their own olive tree.
25 Denn ich will nicht, meine Brüder, daß euch dieses Geheimnis unbekannt bleibe, damit ihr euch nicht selbst klug dünket, daß Israel zum Teil Verstockung widerfahren ist, bis daß die Vollzahl der Heiden eingegangen sein wird
For I do not want you, brothers, to be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise according to yourselves, that a callousness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles come in.
26 und also ganz Israel gerettet werde, wie geschrieben steht: «Aus Zion wird der Erlöser kommen und die Gottlosigkeiten von Jakob abwenden»,
And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written, The man who delivers will come from Zion, and will turn away impiety from Jacob.
27 und: «das ist mein Bund mit ihnen, wenn ich ihre Sünden wegnehmen werde».
And this is the covenant from me to them when I will take away their sins.
28 Nach dem Evangelium zwar sind sie Feinde um euretwillen, nach der Erwählung aber Geliebte um der Väter willen.
They are indeed enemies toward the good news for your sake, but toward selection, they are beloved for the fathers' sake.
29 Denn Gottes Gnadengaben und Berufung sind unwiderruflich.
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
30 Denn gleichwie auch ihr einst Gott nicht gehorcht habt, nun aber begnadigt worden seid infolge ihres Ungehorsams,
For as ye once were also disobedient to God, but now have received mercy at the disobedience of these,
31 so haben auch sie jetzt nicht gehorcht infolge eurer Begnadigung, damit auch sie begnadigt würden.
so also now these have been disobedient for thy mercy, so that they also may receive mercy.
32 Denn Gott hat alle miteinander in den Unglauben verschlossen, damit er sich aller erbarme. (eleēsē g1653)
For God has confined all men in disobedience, so that he might be merciful to all. (eleēsē g1653)
33 O welch eine Tiefe des Reichtums, der Weisheit und der Erkenntnis Gottes! Wie unergründlich sind seine Gerichte und unausforschlich seine Wege!
O the depth of wealth, both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways beyond finding out!
34 Denn «wer hat des Herrn Sinn erkannt, oder wer ist sein Ratgeber gewesen?
For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who became his counselor?
35 Oder wer hat ihm etwas zuvor gegeben, daß es ihm wiedervergolten werde?»
Or who first gave to him, and it will be repaid to him?
