Psalm 91

1 Wer unter dem Schirm des Höchsten sitzt und unter dem Schatten des Allmächtigen wohnt,

He who sitteth under the shelter of the Most High Maketh his abode in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 der spricht zum HERRN: Meine Zuflucht und meine Burg, mein Gott, auf den ich traue!

I say to the LORD, Thou art my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust.

3 Ja, er wird dich erretten von der Schlinge des Voglers und von der verderblichen Pest;

Surely he will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the wasting pestilence;

4 er wird dich mit seinem Fittich decken, und unter seinen Flügeln wirst du dich bergen; seine Treue ist Schirm und Schild.

He will cover thee with his feathers, And under his wings shalt thou find refuge; His faithfulness shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Du brauchst dich nicht zu fürchten vor den Schrecken der Nacht, vor den Pfeilen, die bei Tage fliegen;

Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night, Nor of the arrow that flieth by day;

6 vor der Pestilenz, die im Finstern schleicht, vor der Seuche, die am Mittag verderbt.

Nor of the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor of the plague that destroyeth at noonday.

7 Ob tausend fallen zu deiner Seite und zehntausend zu deiner Rechten, dir naht sie nicht;

A thousand shall fall by thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But thee it shall not touch.

8 nur mit deinen Augen wirst du zusehen und schauen, wie den Gottlosen vergolten wird.

Thou shalt only behold with thine eyes, And see the recompense of the wicked.

9 Denn du [sprichst]: Der HERR ist meine Zuflucht! Den Höchsten hast du zu deiner Schutzwehr gemacht;

Because thou hast made the LORD thy refuge, And the Most High thy habitation,

10 es wird dir kein Unglück zustoßen und keine Plage zu deinem Zelte sich nahen;

No evil shall befall thee, Nor any plague come near thy dwelling.

11 denn er hat seine Engel für dich aufgeboten, daß sie dich behüten auf allen deinen Wegen,

For he will give his angels charge over thee, To guard thee in all thy ways.

12 daß sie dich auf den Händen tragen und du deinen Fuß nicht an einen Stein stoßest.

They shall bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Auf Löwen und Ottern wirst du treten, wirst zertreten junge Löwen und Drachen.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder; The young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under foot.

14 Denn er klammert sich an mich an, darum will ich ihn erretten; ich will ihn sicherstellen, weil er meinen Namen kennt.

“Because he loveth me, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knoweth my name.

15 Ruft er mich an, so will ich ihn erhören; ich bin bei ihm in der Not, ich will ihn herausreißen und zu Ehren bringen;

When he calleth upon me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and bring him to honor.

16 ich will ihn sättigen mit langem Leben und ihn seine Lust schauen lassen an meinem Heil!

With long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation.”
