Psalm 85

1 Dem Vorsänger. Von den Kindern Korahs. Ein Psalm. HERR, du warst einst gnädig deinem Land, hast das Gefängnis Jakobs gewendet,

For the chief musician. A psalm of the sons of Korah. Yahweh, you have showed favor to your land; you have restored the well-being of Jacob.

2 vergabst deines Volkes Schuld, decktest alle ihre Sünden zu, (Pause)

You have forgiven the sin of your people; you have covered all their sin. (Selah)

3 du ließest ab von deinem Grimm, wandtest dich von deines Zornes Glut:

You have withdrawn all your wrath; you have turned back from your hot anger.

4 Stelle uns wieder her, o Gott unsres Heils, laß ab von deinem Grimm gegen uns!

Restore us, God of our salvation, and let go of your displeasure with us.

5 Oder willst du ewig mit uns zürnen, deinen Zorn währen lassen von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht?

Will you be angry with us forever? Will you remain angry throughout future generations?

6 Willst du uns nicht wieder neu beleben, daß dein Volk sich deiner freuen kann?

Will you not revive us again? Then your people will rejoice in you.

7 HERR, laß uns deine Gnade schauen und schenke uns dein Heil!

Show us your covenant faithfulness, Yahweh, grant us your salvation.

8 Ich will hören, was Gott, der HERR, reden wird; denn er wird Frieden zusagen seinem Volk und seinen Frommen. Nur daß sie sich nicht wieder zur Torheit wenden!

I will listen to what Yahweh God says, for he will make peace with his people, his faithful followers. Yet they must not turn again to foolish ways.

9 Gewiß ist sein Heil denen nahe, die ihn fürchten, daß Herrlichkeit in unserm Lande wohne,

Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him; then glory will remain in our land.

10 daß Gnade und Wahrheit einander begegnen, Gerechtigkeit und Friede sich küssen,

Covenant faithfulness and trustworthiness have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11 daß Treue aus der Erde sprieße und Gerechtigkeit vom Himmel schaue.

Trustworthiness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky.

12 Der HERR wird uns auch Gutes geben, und unser Land wird seinen Ertrag abwerfen;

Yes, Yahweh will give his good blessings, and our land will yield its crops.

13 Gerechtigkeit wird vor ihm hergehen und ihre Füße setzen auf den Pfad.

Righteousness will go before him and make a way for his footsteps.
